A sexy and intense standalone novel from a New York Times bestselling author. This book contains heavy subject matter and is intended for mature readers.Once, the only thing that mattered to me was football—training, playing, and earning my place on the best team at every level. I had it all, and I threw it away with a semester of drugs, alcohol, and pissing off anyone who tried to stop me. Now … stop me. Now I’m suspended from the team, on house arrest, and forced to spend six months at home to get my shit together. The cherry on top of my fuckup sundae? Sleeping in the room next to mine is my best friend’s girl, Mia Mendez—the only woman I’ve ever loved and a reminder of everything I regret.
I’m not sure if having Mia so close will be heaven or hell. She’s off-limits—and not just because she’s working for my dad. Her heart belongs to someone else. But since the accident that killed her brother and changed everything, she walks around like a zombie, shutting out her friends and ignoring her dreams. We’re both broken, numb, and stuck in limbo.
Until I break my own rules and touch her.
Until she saves me from my nightmares by climbing into my bed.
Until the only thing I want more than having Mia for myself is to protect her from the truth.
I can’t rewrite the past, but I refuse to leave her heart in the hands of fate. For this girl, I’d climb into the sky and rearrange the stars.

I had to take a few days to think before I wrote this review and I’m still not sure my heart can take it. This was an excellent book that caught my attention from the start. A story about Love and Loss, had a love triangle and the sacrifices one makes in the name of friendship. This love story between Arrow and Mia was just real. Not the fall in love at first sight and everything is all hearts and roses kind of love. Our characters had to work for it. This book was fast paced and at the end a great read.
I enjoyed this book. I loved the plot but some parts where a little to winded for me. I caught myself skipping a lot of the parts. But overall a good book. The characters were pretty deep and you could feel the angst throughout the book. Finally finding out the truth and seeing them get their happily ever after was very heartwarming.
I have to say this is one of those books that will have you wishing it would never end, but then again you just can’t wait to get to the end to see if everything turns out the way you want it to. I felt so many emotions while reading this one. My heart just broke for Arrow and Mia over and over again. The emotional turmoil these two went through was hard to read. This is definitley a must read and I can’t wait to start the next book.
Definitely 5*
This is a story that grabbed me from the very beginning and never let up. Angst, tears, heartbreak, betrayal, lies and love made this book a five star read. It was so well written that you felt a part of the story of Mia and Arrow that had so many surprises and twists and turns.
I’m hooked and can’t wait to grab the next book in this series. If Spinning Out is any indication of the caliber of this series then I know I’m in for another outstanding book
This was way more intense than I anticipated! I went in blind, and let me tell you, I got so drawn in and addicted to this story. Arrow and Mia’s story is mired in heartache and angst. At first, I was upset with him and how he treated her. As time goes on, my heart breaks for him at the way she constantly pulls back from him. At a time in their lives where they really could use one another to lean on for support, there’s still so much standing in their way.
If this is any indication of how the rest of the series is going to go, sign me up! Seriously, drag my emotions through the mud some more. I can take it.
This is a tough book for me to review because I didn’t hate it but I also didn’t love it. I’m on the fence when it comes to this one. There were parts of this story that I enjoyed and parts that I disliked. I wished there was more chemistry between the main characters and their back and forth became exhausting at times. There was nothing about them that made them stand out for me. I suggest readers give this book a try and see if it works for them because I’m still unsure how I feel about this one.
4.5 Stars!
This poignant and spellbinding tale of friends and lovers will hold you captive from beginning to end. Arrow and Brogan are best friends who fall in love with the same woman, Mia. Mia started dating Brogan first but has fallen for both men. The love and loyalty Arrow and Mia have for Brogan keep them as friends and not acting on their burning attraction. The book opens with both Arrow and Mia suffering after a horrific event from months earlier. They are trying to move on but have yet to find the means or will to really live. Their friends have all surrounded them for support but they are at a loss as well on how to move on. I really liked Arrow and Mia and their group of friends. I found them to be well developed, honest, and genuine. I feel that the decisions they made were believable even if I didn’t agree with some of them. Ms Ryan skillfully revealed this story in alternating past and present sequence allowing the reader to be truly engaged both emotionally and thoughtfully. She expertly weaved a tale of loyalty and betrayal, of love and heartbreak, and ultimately of hope and healing. This story is a raw and emotional journey with several twists and turns that will keep you guessing. This is a great start to Ms. Ryans Blackhawk Boys series and I can’t wait to read more about the rest of these wonderful characters!
2,5 stars
Lexi Ryan is a new writer to me but after reading the blurb of ‘Spinning out’ and discovering that it was a new adult story about a college football player who was in love with his best friend’s girl, I had to read it. It sounded great and the book started that way too. Arrow is this hot guy who is troubled for reasons that we don’t know (yet) and Mia is this strong but ‘broken’ girl. You can totally feel that there has been something between them in the past but you don’t know what. The story is told in both POV’s and it’s going from present time to the past and back again. Slowly, the story reveals their past and secrets to the reader and it is there that I lost my concentration a bit.
Because although I liked the first half of the book, I can’t say the same for the whole story. Gradually I could feel that the story was losing my attention and the reason that I finished the book was because I was still curious enough to see how it ended.
One of the reasons that my attention fell away was because of Mia’s feelings towards the two guys and the decisions that she made in the past. The more I discovered about Mia’s and Arrow’s past, the more I wondered why Mia hadn’t choosing Arrow over his best friend. And I also had my questions about the decisions that Mia’s boyfriend made during their relationship. I never had any doubts about Arrow‘s feelings for Mia but sadly, I can’t say the same for Mia’s feelings for Arrow. And because of that, I couldn’t emotionally connect with the romance story and it even frustrated me at times.
There were other things in the story that I had some trouble with, that left me with questions but the main reason was that in the end, I just missed the ‘romance’ between Arrow and Mia. I’m sure that other readers will love this book but ‘Spinning out’ just wasn’t the book for me.
I enjoyed how the author went back and forth from current time to the past to give you additional background. Wish there would have been more to then end with an epilogue.
This book absolutely sucked me in. It’s deeply emotional and tragic, but that makes the ending that much more satisfying. Lexi Ryan is a must-read for me.
This is great book!! Arrow and Mia are amazing and I love how their story unfolds!! This was an amazing read that once I started I couldn’t put it down until I was done..
This book was not for me. First, I don’t like that it jumps back and forth between the past and present. Second, I figured out right away the big secret that was hinted at. And finally, the poor decisions everyone keeps making through the whole book, it was too much. It gets 2 stars because there were some things I liked and I did finish it.
When I first started reading this book I was certain I was going to love it. Lexi Ryan grabbed my attention with this story right away. Her writing is quite addictive and she weaves an intriguing story. I was immediately drawn to Arrow, which eventually turned into love. What really got my attention was the complex relationship between Arrow and Mia. I loved how it shifted from the present to past of how Mia and Arrow met. It was clear these two were deeply in love, but very complicated things were keeping them apart. I also liked the bit of mystery and how Lexi Ryan’s shifting from past to present slowly built to a reveal I did not expect. It was really good and sad at same time.
Arrow is consumed by a guilt that only he knows. He loves Mia with a passion and it kills him that he’s always loved his best friends girl. Yet its still hard for him to stay away from her. Despite the fact that Arrow was the popular rich kid, he was what Mia needed. Mia is the girl from the trailer park, who has to put herself through college. Her father is a drunk who hates Arrow’s family and hr brother Nick is forever a bad boy from his dealing and taking drugs. Mia was the typical nice girl. She liked Arrow right away and even loved him despite their families history. But she decides to date his best friend instead. While she’s with Brogan, she gives Arrow mixed signals. Its clear she wants to be with Arrow but continues to date Brogan(who sees the way she looks at Arrow and is insecure. He’s afraid of losing Mia one day to Arrow). The whole book is spent with Mia stringing Arrow along.
What killed this book for me was the fact that Mia is the worse. She strung Arrow along this entire book. She is responsible for the downhill turn of her relationship with Brogan and for not being honest with him about her feelings for Arrow. Brogan was not perfect at all and made a lot of unforgivable mistakes, but what happened to him was heartbreaking. But this relationship got played out real fast and I thought Arrow deserved someone better than Mia. I could rant about this, but I’m too exhausted over this relationship to do that.
So while Spinning Out started out really good for me and I loved Arrow in all his tortured glory, he deserved better than Mia playing games with his heart. But I did like a lot of Arrow’s teammates and look forward to quite a few of their books.
A great college read with a soul
This book was great. I loved the subplots that made this a romance worth reading. The hero is swoony and the heroine was perfect. I’ll be following this series from now on.
What an amazing story.
I listen to the audio and followed along in the book, though the whispersync did not work with this book but I kind of wonder if that is not amazon’s fault. I find that happens a lot. The narrators did a wonderful job.
I fell in love with Arrow. He was this hot sexy carrying college man. He had a big heart though I am sure he did not feel like he did sometimes. I can not blame him from feeling selfish when it came to Mia. The heart wants what the heart wants.
Mia was a sweet girl but I felt she was not only being unfair to herself but to Brogan as well by leading him along. She might of been with Brogan but Arrow had her heart.
There are some pretty sad parts in this story and cried through some of it, some heartfelt parts and, some pretty steamy parts as well.
My heart broke for Arrow. The guilt he carried with him. He was destroying himself over this guilt. There were so many lies and these lies are destroying so many people. Funny how the truth can set you free.
I am glad I took out time to listen to this story.
I absolutely love this book I couldn’t put it down. It was a real page turner once I finished I read another book by the same author Lexi Ryan. I definitely recommend this book.
Dark and complex at times, with overwhelming emotion.
I don’t normally leave reviews as I read 4-5 books a week and so many ‘blend’ in… BUT for this book, I will definitely go out of my way to review. Loved it, great plot, kept me guessing the whole book, didn’t understand why they were apart… Can’t say it enough, really enjoyed it. GREAT writing. Thank you!
Sweet but predictable.
Mia and Arrow meet but he is not who she thinks he is. She falls for Arrow’s best friend. Then tragedy strikes and Mia and Arrow have a second chance of they can forgive themselves. I really loved this story!
