To make matters worse, she has to accept the womanizing local FLPD Major as her fictitious fiancé and her backup on the dangerous mission.
Heaven knows, she doesn’t deserve this mess…
Blake Sebastian is tired of his role as lover for the women who hang around him in droves. Problem is – he doesn’t trust any of them with his heart, never mind with his future.

Charli was not impressed.

Mimi Barbour is always a “must buy” for me. Her books are fast-paced and fun.
In the world of mystery writing, some things can be telling. Like when you want to drop everything else in order to read a certain book, because you HAVE to find out how it’s going to end. Mimi Barbour’s SPECIAL AGENT CHARLI was such a book––in spades. Starting out with a heart wrenching foster care scene, I immediately fell for Kayla, the abused, parentless girl. A touching teen, she was, without warning, suddenly thrust into a Hitchcockian situation and bam! The book was off and running.
The murder mystery itself was expertly paced; talk about little cliff hangers and edge of your seat chapter endings that headed toward a thoroughly dramatic, action-packed dénouement. But for me, what also created true staying power was the depth of the characters. Their motives, their backgrounds, their angsts, along with their consistent appeal. I really wanted the tough female lead, Charli, suffering from PTSD after a recently finished narcotics undercover stint, to fall for Blake, the sexy, used-to-women-throwing-themselves-at-him undercover cop and come together romantically…but because of their complete opposite dispositions, I wasn’t sure if it was ever going to happen. (No spoilers here!). Another star of the show was Charli’s Grandpa, her “Poppa John,” (Apparently based on Ms. Barbour’s own grandfather), who was a complete hoot, and a life saver in more ways than one. All in all, a wonderful 5* read!
I personally loved this story. I loved all the characters, I had my doubts about Blake and thought there might be too much attitude and arrogance for my taste. I’m glad I gave him a chance, he tended to be a little ornery, but likable. This statement is for Mimi Barbour I loved Poppa John. Charli and Kayla are brought together under strange circumstances. I loved how they became a team. As the story progressed the team grew. I really enjoyed this. In my opinion Mimi Barbour wrote a good suspense story, with love and family. If you are looking for smut this story doesn’t have it, but it’s not needed. I love Mimi Barbour’s Undercover FBI Series. In my opinion if you are a fan of Undercover FBI Series Mimi Barbour did not disappoint. This is a stand alone story, but I would recommend reading the other books in this series. I read this on Kindle Unlimited.
Book six in the Undercover FBI series a well written suspense story that kept me turning pages. Special Agent Charli Madison and Blake Sebastian a local FLPD Major’s story there is suspense, drama, danger, villains, and romance.
I enjoyed this murder romance story. I voluntarily chose to review it. This is not for the under 18 readers but it reads like a young adult type story. I liked that it didn’t display a lot of blood and gore although it does have several murders. There is a lot going on in this story , action, romance, dealing with teenagers that sort of skirted around some issues. So it had a few chuckles to lighten up some of the seriousness. Some of the action was more like fantasy but all in all, a fun story about murder.
Desperate for downtime after an especially grueling undercover assignment, Charli has no choice but to change her plans at the last minute when teenage Alicia witnesses the murder of a woman. Charli was hoping for a vacation with her beloved Gramps, and instead, she finds herself taking care of a very grown-up teenager with an overbearing Major breathing down the back of her neck. The plot is suspenseful and fast-paced, spiced with humour and romance, and a cast of strong characters. Poppa John is a delight and wins everyone over, including the reader. When Charli and by extension her handler, Blake, find themselves taking care of not one but two teenagers, life takes on new meaning for both of them. The novel is a standalone and comes to a successful close. Although I purchased this book, I also received a copy for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily post this review. This is my honest review.
More of a 4.5 rating. Liked this book more than I thought I would. FBI Special Agent Charli is a tough, determined agent yet harboring painful memories from the past. Blake is a womanizer but essentially good guy who falls hard for Charli. Both of them open their hearts to the two young girls they are trying to protect. Papa John (Gramps) is a special character beloved by all. Danger, attraction and HEA make this a “must read.” Hope to read more in this series. I received this book from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily post this review. This is my honest review.
A love Mimi Barbour stories. She has a heart of gold for her art. I loved Papa John especially his nickname “Popsicle”. Despite all the high drama and the bad things, the love of family is always present. You cannot help but fall in love with her characters and make them life long friends.
Absolutely outstanding.
I volunteered to read and review an advanced readers copy of Special Agent Charli . I was drawn in at the beginning and I really could not nor did I want to put it down . I must say this story this story is fantastic . Special Agent Carolina Madison FBI is in charge of protecting Alicia Shoal a teenager in a not so nice foster home that witnessed a Hitman killing a woman . The Hitman is cleaning up his loose ends .Blake Sabastian Major of Florida support service Bureau is assigned to help Carolina (Charli ) protect Alicia .
I must say this is very action packed and suspenseful along with intriguing story . The storyline is fabulous . I love all the characters so unique and interesting . I especially love Poppa John he stole my heart . I highly recommend reading this story it has everything suspense, intrigue , humor ,action , love ,and a happy ending . A must read .
This romantic thriller captivated me on page one. It demanded to be read immediately. Who am I to say no?! The author does a fantastic job leaving the reader guessing until the very end. This book, although the sixth in this series, stands on its own very well. The characters are real and relatable (Poppa John is a gem). The plot is well developed and moves at a really good pace. Overall I highly r commend this book.
Special Agent Charli is the first book I’ve read by Mimi Barbour but the sixth book in her Undercover FBI series. I stumbled across this author and while
I hate to “start a series” (whether stand alone or
not) so far into it, I couldn’t overlook this read. I was drawn by the synopsis and the promise of a close relationship between grandfather and granddaughter.
Special Agent Charli is one of those stories that grabs you right away with great imagery, but holds your attention with a little bit of everything- suspense, strong characters and a storyline that flows really well.
While Charli and Blake are fantastic, I really like the family aspect of this book and truth be told Poppa John stole the show for me. Every word his character uttered made me smile, intentional or not, I guess he captured my heart as much as he stole the show.
I am looking forward to reading more by Mimi Barbour in the future and I certainly recommend this read to anyone that loves a suspenseful read with a great collection of characters.
Special Agent Charli (Undercover FBI #6) by Mimi Barbour was a romantic/crime thriller that captured my attention and held it until that last page was flipped.
My first read by this author and in this series, no worries they read as stand alones so you don’t have to read the other five books to play catch up, I mean, if you want to you can. But I can tell you that after reading this gem I’m going back and binge-read the other five.
This tall drink of water really pulled me into the story and it’s plot right from the get go. I not only loved the quirky characters and their multi layers, but I loved the way they interacted and how through a dangerous need, became a pretty awesome team. It just goes to show you can’t judge a book. (See what I did there..ah ha ha…..)
I liked Charli, she really carried the story and wasn’t a push over. Sure she had some annoy sides to her, but it made her a grounded, human like character, that could actually exist in real life.
Blake.. he was a hard one for me to like at first, very alpha male and very.. you know.. alpha cop. But once the story got fully under way and he opened up, I started to fall for him just as much as Charli. But, in all, I have to give the battle of MC’s to Charli.
Overall I very much enjoyed the plot, the mystery and the slow burn romance that really started to get me in the feels. Once that thriller part got under way.. wow.. as I said, I’m going back and reading the other book. Cause I like the way this author not only writes, but thinks.
So yes, this book gets my super high recommendation and my stamp of approval.
Happy Reading

Special Agent Charli (Undercover FBI Book 6) by Mimi Barbour
5 Stars
This is my first book by this author and I sincerely enjoyed it, not sure why I haven’t read anything else before this but I will be fixing that as soon as possible. The writing style is awesome and flowed perfectly, I almost didn’t want the story to end. I loved all of the characters in this book but Gramps wins hands down for being my favorite.
I loved that it was full of everything I want in a book, suspense, love, family, mystery and most importantly a awesome cast of perfectly broken characters. I wanted to slap Blake a few times but he finally came around and I loved Charli’s spunk and attitude!
I highly recommend this book and have a feeling I will be recommending the rest of this series when I get it all read.
Awesome!! Loved it!!
This is my favorite book by this author. It has a little bit of everything in it, from romance to suspense. I enjoyed how she is able to pull me into her story right from the start and does it with ease. The story is engaging and sitting on the edge of my seat twists and turns. Her characters are lovable and relateable especially Poppa John. Everyone needs a Poppa John in their lives. I enjoyed the chemistry between Charli and Blake, you don’t want to miss it. I highly recommend this book
Special Agent Charli (Undercover FBI Book 6)
By: Mimi Barbour
5 out of 5 stars
The story Special Agent Charli (Undercover FBI Book 6) by Mimi Barbour is a wonderful book that I loved reading. It is a combination of romance/thriller that had my attention from the very first chapter and kept it all the way through to the last page. It is a page-turner that I didn’t want to put down. I loved reading about the characters of Charli Madison and Blake Sebastian. Charli is a special agent that has found herself being pulled into a protection detail for a young girl who is in danger. While she was going away on vacation because of her last assignment she knows that her help is needed. Charli is a woman that has built up walls and guards her heart. She doesn’t have serious relationships and she certainly is not going to start one with the very handsome and charming Blake Sebastian. Blake’s reputation is well known. He is a lady’s man and doesn’t have any problem attracting their attention. He has Charli’s attention however he seems to be rubbing her the wrong way. These two have to work together in order that a killer doesn’t succeed. When these two first meet the way that they banter is sometimes sarcastic and has conflict, however, they both can’t stop thinking about each other. He is starting to break down her walls/barriers. Will she let him into her heart? What does the future hold for Charli and Blake? Will the killer be caught? I found myself growing to love both the characters of Charli and Blake with every chapter that I read. I also loved reading about the character of Charli’s grandfather. I found him to be caring, resourceful, and independent. An amazing character indeed. This is a story that is well worth the time reading and one I would highly recommend.
Best of the Undercover FBI series so far
Absolutely loved this story! Charli and Blake are two amazing characters that play off of each other well and have a chemistry that is on fire. The plot is great, and all the other characters fit so well with each other in this mix. And Gramps… he stole the show! A wonderful, lovable character that you just wish you could meet and get to know.
The books in this series are all standalone. This is my 1st book in the series and I immediately went back and downloaded the others. The writing style is on point and the action sequences are great. This is a definite page-turner as the story grabs you with murder and holds you until the end. All of the characters are believable and I just loved Charli’s “Popsicle”.
Special Agent Charli is the sixth book in the Undercover FBI series, but reads well as a stand alone. Charlie has just returned from an extremely stressful undercover drug case when danger knocks on her door in the form of a fourteen year old. Now charged with protecting the only witness to a murder, Charli goes back undercover down to Florida, where she’s forced to team up with FLPD Major Blake. Will she be able to fight their chemistry while keeping all of her charges safe?
This book is so fun, so engaging between the characters and the danger, and there’s just so much to enjoy about this book! Charli and Blake ended up making a great team and I loved all of the trials and past hurts they needed to overcome to find their own happiness, even when there’s a lot of interference with teenage girls, a grandfather, and the assassin zeroing in closer every day. Charli is so driven by her job and the only time she kicks back is with her grandfather, so I loved watching life butt in and give her the joy that she so desperately needed. Blake is a bit of a woman’s man, but I loved that right from the very beginning, he knew he was open to more. I loved that while Charli was the glue that brought everyone together, the one that everyone loved, Blake was more often the rock that held them all solid. I loved the girls and I loved Charli’s Popsicle! So cute! Also, I loved how detailed Ms. Barbour went into the case and I loved all of the different points of view! My one complaint would be that I wish there was a little more of the in between with Charli and Blake – as in the beginning there’s some major rough edges and then all of a sudden, problems resolved. Otherwise, I really enjoyed this book! I can’t wait to read more of these undercover FBI agents!
Another Great
This one’s brings together characters that become family. Kayla gets stuck babysitting her foster brother and her foster parents friends kids. But when actually witnessed a murder her life is in jeopardy. Her neighbor Charli is a FBI agent and about to go on vacation. She ends up having to protect her, when the get to Florida, they meet Blake, a police Major. Between collecting another teen, and Charli’s grandfather. It’s has twist and turns.
The mystery is tense and tightly plotted. I was easily caught up in the thrill of them escaping the hired killer, and I was fully invested in this emotional roller-coaster ride. I just didn’t believe in the insta-love relationship between Charli and Blake. They don’t spend enough page time together for me to buy their connection. What we see the most is Charli’s “family” and I wholeheartedly believe in those connections. I also get the sense that a lot of the procedural elements in this story aren’t very realistic. Maybe it’s because I’ve read this whole series back-to-back, and what felt like fun, tongue-in-cheek liberties ala Lethal Weapon in the first books no longer have the same flair. The family interactions in these books are second-to-none, and it’s for those warm fuzzies I want to keep reading this series.
