Kidnapped from Africa as a child, Aminata Diallo is enslaved in South Carolina but escapes during the chaos of the Revolutionary War. In Manhattan she becomes a scribe for the British, recording the names of blacks who have served the King and earned their freedom in Nova Scotia. But the hardship and prejudice of the new colony prompt her to follow her heart back to Africa, then on to London, … where she bears witness to the injustices of slavery and its toll on her life and a whole people. It is a story that no listener, and no reader, will ever forget.Published in Canada as The Book of Negroes and the basis for the award-winning BET miniseries of the same name.

An account of slavery during the American Revolution, with information unknown before. An interesting and enlightening book.
Really put the Mini series The Book of Negros in perspective. It was a great historical read. Her travels are so we’ll documented. If you enjoyed the series you’ll love this book. I sure did.
Fabulous read!
It started out really slow, however as I got into the book, it was very interesting and I wanted to read to the end. I almost put it down at first. The colored girl in this story was strong, intelligent, and it was very sad what her life became as a slave.
A good read. Important for people to be reminded of how horribly tha slaves were treated
A heart grabber. Such a black mark on society world wide; sorrowful because it still goes on today.
Awesome book. Couldn’t put it down.
Great story. Realistic without horrific details. It was told as life stories are told. Simply the way it happened. Couldn’t put it down.
One of the best books I’ve ever read.
Loved the style of writing
A wonderful, richly-layered historical novel, transporting the reader to the early years of the U.S. and immersing her/him into the sojourn of a slave from the time of her capture from among her people not far from the coast of Africa to her harrowing journey across the Atlantic in the hold of a slave ship to her experiences of being “owned” and …
Good read. I liked this book.
Real literature and great story.
Readable historical description of a young African girl taken from her homeland into slavery. She is a survivor with strength beyond comprehension.
Great story telling…
A thought-provoking, somber book based on many primary sources. Couldn’t put it down and read late into the night.
Poignant
This was a wonderful book. Heartbreaking and inspiring at the same time. Could not put it down.
Wonderful writing, inspirational characters, kept my interest , touching story.
This, by far, is the best book I have read from bookbub. It should be a movie.
