I’ve always been a fan of Carly Fall’s work, but her most recent novels have been AMAZING. Siren’s Curse is no exception.
She’s a siren. He’s a mage. Together, they need to locate a rumored legacy stone to save her people from extinction.
But what’s in it for him?
If you enjoyed my own Charmed Legacy novel, Mage’s Legacy, you’ll LOVE Siren’s Curse!
The cover goes good with the story I had to hold on for this roller coaster ride. Where was help when Rainie needed it. She is the most courageous and strongest person who doesn’t give up. Her Side kick is useless.
3.75 stars–SIREN’S CURSE by Carly Fall is a stand alone, dystopian, fantasy story line in the multi-authored Cursed Seas Collection.
SIREN’S CURSE follows Rainie, a hunter-siren who volunteers to go in search of the Legacy Stone, a stone purported to reverse the curse inflicted upon her people, years before, by the mage who granted the once-humans the ability to live and breath under water. Knowing her people were on the verge of extinction, not only from a lack of food but the monstrous beasts that inhabited the waters, Rainie will soon find herself ‘the hunted’ as sirens are traded to pirates in exchange for food and clean water. Meeting Jonah, a human male, gives Rainie a hope for the future but a series of trials, misfortunes, betrayal and attacks on their journey into the unknown, finds our couple struggling to survive. What ensues is the building relationship between Rainie and Jonah as they search for the Legacy Stone, and the mage who started it all.
SIREN’S CURSE looks to the future as most of the planet Earth is under water; monsters and beasts hunt humans for food; and those who survive battle thirst and famine. SIREN’S CURSE is a dystopian tale of adventure and survival, endurance and strength. The text is simple and easy to read, feeling more like a young adult story line. An imaginative tale with a determined heroine who struggles against the odds
This book was right up my alley and I just loved it! The character undertakes a mission fraught with danger, action and adventure. This fast paced story kept me reading all night. I would say the story had a dystopian feel with fantasy elements, in a world very detailed and quite imaginative. I look forward to reading more books in the Cursed Seas collection.
Siren’s Curse is a standalone novel in the Cursed Seas collection.
I voluntarily received and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
Final Rating: 5 Stars
Another great read by Carley Fall. Full of twists and turns to find the Legacy Stone. Great read and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
Rainie is a Siren whose idyllic life was shattered when her home and hunting grounds was invaded by a plague of monstrous crocodiles who seem to be almost supernatural in their single minded destruction of her people. Her mother and sister were slaughtered by the beasts right in front of her and her clan lives in terror of the crocs that have invaded their home deep in the ocean, holding them hostage as they slowly starve. When a mysterious stranger from another clan of Sirens tells the elders of her clan that the beasts are a result of the dark magic that made the Sirens and that the humans on land are suffering thanks to the same dark magic. Rainie realizes that someone needs to visit the mage that can direct them on their quest to make things right for both the human and sirens and sets out on her own to find her. The first contact Rainie has with humans doesn’t go as easily as she had hoped, but she seems to find an ally in Jonah, a young fisherman whose own family have been killed by a mythical beast stalking the humans. Rainie and Jonah team up to find the mage and break the curse that has been affecting both of their people and the land and sea they call home.
Siren’s Curse is part of the Cursed Seas Collection. Carly Fall has created an exceptionally well written story with interesting characters. This is an action packed, edge of your seat, page turning adventure that you will not want to put down. It will hold you captivated until the last page. You accompany Rainie and Jonah on their journey to find the legacy stone and the mage responsible for the curse that is harming their people, both on land and in the sea. I found this an enjoyable read that I recommend. Received a copy and this is my voluntary and honest review.
Rainie is a Siren who lives underwater with her clan. They are starving and dying out being attacked by horrendous crocs made from dark magic. On land, humans are also fighting creatures of myth made from dark magic. Some are the Oni, Leviathans and Griffins. Long ago when the lands were sinking into the oceans, some humans made pacts with the mages. They asked them to perform magic to help them and future generations to survive – hence the Sirens. One male Siren from another clan came to visit her clan and told them about the Legacy Stone that will help heal their lands and seas. It would save both populations and drive away the black magic.
Rainie decided she would go on the quest for this magical stone. Above ground she kills a croc, leviathan and Oni. She meets Jonah and from there they go in search of the Legacy Stone together. They live through countless adventures always fighting for their lives. When they reach the mage, she gives them instructions to follow to find the stone and where to place it. It is another harmful journey to perform the task. Will they make it? They fall in love with one another against all odds. Will they survive? Will they be able to make a relationship work? Can they change the tides and overcome all the hatred others carry? This book is a fantasy set in the future. It is more like a YA book but nonetheless a well written one. I would like to read further books in this series to see what occurs with the two lead characters and what other journeys are in store for them and their clans. I received this book as a gift and am leaving a voluntary review.
Siren’s Curse by Carly Fall is a fantastic, edge of your seat addition to the Cursed Seas Collection. The author weaves a familiar story (similar to the others in this collection) of the people who are impacted by the changes that the world has undergone since being struck by an asteroid that devastated the world. Mages gave humans a choice – remain on land and adapt or be changed by magic and go to the sea to start a new chapter in life. The people became divided. Some humans stayed on land and others chose to go to the oceans. The consequences of those choices are now terrorizing the people. The Sirens are starving. Crocs hunt and kill them, humans hate them and do the same. They are all starving. Rainie learns of the Legacy Stone and decides to take on the dangerous task of finding it and returning it to its sacred place. The journey will be long, difficult and terribly dangerous, but with help from a kind human…she just might have a fighting chance.
Siren’s Curse is the first book that I have read by Carly Fall and I couldn’t bear to put it down. I’ve read another book in this collection, so I was prepared for the familiarity of returning to this new world. The author wastes no time in devastating me with the horrific story of Rainie’s loss of her loved ones to the crocs. So many have suffered, but I applaud her for never losing her kind nature. She does her best and it’s easy to truly gravitate towards her as a character. I have to say that it’s the humans who disappoint me the most in this book. The Siren’s may have taken “an easier road” but it’s the humans who have truly become twisted due to all that has happened.
There is nothing that I don’t like about this book. The suspense pulls at me at every turn. I’m disappointed one minute only to learn that there is more than meets the eye. I appreciate that romance slowly develops in this story as well. This story is familiar but different enough to keep me turning page after page after page.
I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. If you’re looking for a gripping story about a Siren who sets out to save not just her people, but the humans who hate them as well, then this is the book for you. But be prepared to be gripped to the end because you won’t want to put this book down once you start.
Wow…… This book is amazing. It is very well written, has an amazing storyline. And the characters are epic. I was blown away reading this book. It was so good a definate page turner. I am not going to give any spoilers. This is about Rainie and her Siren clan is completely dependent on her. If she can not find the legacy stone the clan will die. She has to get this stone to save her people. She can not find it alone she has to get help from a Mage. It may take her death to save her clan. This book is full of action, crazy people, trouble and keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time. It is definatly a page turner. Once you start you will not be able to stop until the end. A superb book, one of the best I have read this year!!!!!
