Her cowboy might just be another broken-heart ballad waiting to happen… another hit album soon, then her label will move on to the next big thing.
Sara heads to a ranch in Wyoming to get back to her country roots and rediscover herself. To keep the press away, she hides her identity and is determined to let nothing distract her. Then she meets Cal: tall, brooding, and all cowboy. Sara falls for Cal and the quiet ranch life, but with each song she writes her time there draws to a close.
Sara will have to choose between the country stars of Nashville or the glittering stars of a Wyoming sky…unless she can find a way to have both.

Lisa Swinton knows how to spin a tender love story, and Silver Star is another sweet, contemporary escape. Swinton provies glimpses into the pressures of the country music industry and the complexities it brings to the lives of its stars.
Fearing his star is burning out, an agent and friend sends grammy winner Sara Star away from Nashville to a friend’s working ranch in the big sky country of Wyoming. Sara agrees because she too knows she needs to recenter herself and find the motivation that once made her music a joy.
Sara arrives to work, looking forward to getting back to the lifestyle she loved as a child, and assumes a pseudonym–Sara Greene– to conceal her identity while she hides from the paparazzi who are trying to find the missing singer.
While earning her keep, Sara dodges curious guests and finds mixed messages from the ranch owner’s son, a widower with a daughter. She knows the day will come when she’ll need to return to her camera-in-your-face real life, and she wonders what a man who has already known pain will think of her when he discovers that his riding partner has been living a lie.
Great read for a lazy afternoon.
Ever since her mom passed away, Sara Silver has been a shell of a human being. Going through the motions and doing whatever anyone tells her to do. She keeps to herself and refuses to let anyone get too close to her. She’s no longer living… just existing.
While recording her latest album, her manager, Rusty, informs her it’s no good and there’s something missing. Her heart and spark for life are no where to be found. Rusty gives her two options. She can continue on the way she’s been going and find a new label to record her albums. Or she can go to his friend’s ranch in Wyoming to relax, rejuvenate and find herself again.
Determined to rediscover herself, Sara loads up her old red truck and heads to Wyoming. She’s determined to figure out the next step in her life and she can’t afford any distractions. Enter in the handsome cowboy, Cal Jamieson and his adorable 4 year old daughter, Stella.
After losing his wife 3 years ago, Cal is no stranger to heartache. When he first meets Sara, he thinks she’s a towner.. just there visiting the ranch for a week. But when he discovers she’s there for an undetermined amount of time, he doesn’t know what to think. He does his best to stay away from her but the more time she spends with Stella, the harder it becomes to hold her at arms length. It takes some time, but they slowly start to fall in love.
But when Sara feels her time on the ranch coming to an end, she will have to decide what she really wants. Can she see her life without Cal and Stella in it? Can she see her life without music in it? The answer to both questions is no… she can’t. But how is she going to balance a family and her career? And will Cal even go for it? She’s come this far and she refuses to let go. She’ll just have to go all in and have faith that it will all work out the way it’s meant to be and they’ll be able to find their HEA.
*dreamy sigh*
After reading two duds in a row, I had a bookish friend tell me that I MUST, MUST, MUST read Silver Star! Since I had already added it to my TBR pile, I thought what the heck! Let’s give it a try! And boy am I glad I did! This book did not disappoint! I found myself sneaking in reading whenever I could and getting extremely upset when migraines stopped me from devouring this book.
I absolutely adored Sara, Cal and of course little Stella, who stole my heart from the very beginning! The setting and story line were perfect! I’m not going to lie… I was worried that drama would abound once Cal figured out who she was but I was pleasantly surprised with how that all worked out. It was seriously perfect and made me love Cal even more! As my bookish friend said… this book is definitely a MUST read!
This is my very first book by Ms. Swinton and I can tell you it won’t be my last! Can’t wait to read her other books!
Sweet!
Sara was disillusioned and lost so she found somewhere quiet to write. She also found Cal and ‘princess’ Stella. Two very different worlds in this delightful book. Great characters and a good storyline will keep you reading until the last page. I definitely recommend this book to all romance fans.
Modern Western Love Story
This is the best love story that I have read in quite awhile! It is so totally believable from setting to characters to plot. Everything is well thought out and it flows seamlessly. It is a clean story which makes it an even better tale. I can easily see this being made into a movie without changing a thing. I will be reading more of this author’s sweet version stories. I received this book for free and voluntarily chose to post my honest review.
Silver Star is so much more than I expected. Yes, I am a total country music fan but you do not even have to like music to get sucked into this story. The warnings about having enough time to finish should be heeded. It was 7 am when I finished and went to bed! This is a wonderful, sweet, clean romance about going back to your roots to rediscover yourself. I loved the strong, well – written characters. Even the supporting characters were well done. The story is just amazing.
Silver Star by Lisa Swinton – Review
I love stories with children in them. This is probably because I simply love children.
Silver Star combines a cowboy with a country music star trying to get her love for music back. When Sara meets the handsome widower, Cal, and his precious princess, Stella, her heart doesn’t stand a chance.
I love the way that Stella is such a princess and the way that Sara relates to her so quickly. One of the cutest scenes was one where Sara gets Stella to eat the broccoli which she has refused to even touch in the past.
The content is clean, though there is a scene where a character is attacked and almost raped. I would not recommend it for a very young audience for this reason.
Parts of the story felt a little stilted and parts made it seem drawn out but overall it was an enjoyable read.

I would like to thank Lisa Swinton for giving me this copy of the book. This gift did not influence my opinion or review.
I loved this story; Sara needs a much-needed break from her country star life and goes to Bar J ranch under an alias to revitalize where she meets Cal and Stella who change her life. Cal is healing from his wife’s death, raising his daughter, is not looking for love but has found it with Sara. How will it work out? Will Sara give up her singing career? Will Cal give up the ranch?
The story is beautifully written with well-developed characters and I would highly recommend it.
