The last time we saw Jim he was leading a horde of zombies away from the group so Vivian, Axl, Angus, and the rest of the group could leave safely. Jim put his own life in danger to save everyone. His main concern was for the new baby in the group, Megan.
This was when the group was on their way to Atlanta. They were trying to get Angus to the CDC. When the scientist at the CDC was informed that Angus was immune to the zombie virus they needed him to help find a cure for the virus.
Silent World picks Jim up just as he is running away from the zombies. In the process, he is injured and finds a safe place to rest in an SUV parked inside a garage.
Silent World is told from two points of view. One being Jim’s of course and the other is Amira’s. Amira is a twenty-one-year-old deaf girl. Amira was staying in her attic but needed supplies. Her dad went out on a supply run but never made it back. When Amira returned she found Jim injured and semi-unconscious in her garage and decided to help him.
I was very impressed with Amira and all the ways she came up with to help protect herself from zombies and living people as well. She had to learn to adapt when she became death so it isn’t hard to believe that she adapted even more for zombies.
I loved how her father taught her different survival skills and how to be quiet/silent. I can’t tell you how thrilled and in awe I was when the connection with the title finally dawned on me.
It was really touching when Jim tells Amira that he would be her ears now. But then on the other hand there was something about it that didn’t sit too well with me. Although it was a lovely idea, I still thought and hoped that Amira would not stop using all her senses to survive either. I mean she could find herself alone sometime through no fault of her own or Jim’s. I mean Amira using all her senses to survive is the same as someone who knows karate uses their senses.
After his recovery, Jim wants to head out to Atlanta to be with his friends but Amira is hesitant to make this move as she is still hoping that her father will return. Every day more and more zombies are surrounding their place making it more and more unsafe. Amira sees the sensibility of going to Atlanta but is afraid she will never see her dad again if she leaves. Amira reluctantly decides to go to Atlanta with Jim. The trip to Atlanta will be a rough, hard one for two people alone in a zombie-filled world especially with one of them being deaf but they are both strong people who knew how to survive before the apocalypse, right? Will they make it to Atlanta safely? Will Jim find his friends in Atlanta?
I have so loved this journey through a Broken World and hope to keep visiting this world in future books. Hopefully with some of the same characters but a few new ones would be ok too. I have enjoyed seeing Jim again and learning of his fate after leading those zombies away from Vivian, Axl, Angus, and the others. I have enjoyed getting know Jim and learning more about him and who he was/is. I was glad to have been introduced to a new character, Amira, and getting to know her.
I love zombies so I highly recommend Silent World to all those zombie fans out there. Grab your copy of Silent World today and join Jim and Amira on their journey. But I do suggest that you read the Broken World stories in order as they are not stand-alone, well, all but Jim and Amira’s story, Silent World that can be read as a stand-alone but still in order.
I had a fantastic time with this book! I spent a lot of time last year working through this series but for some reason, I never got around to reading this book. Audiobooks were only available for the first three books when I was reading the series last year but the publisher has recently released audiobooks for the rest of the series. I was very excited to see that the Hoopla app that I use through my local library had the entire series available in audio and decided to finally dive into Jim’s story.
This book tells Jim and Amira’s story. In the previous book in this series, Forgotten World, Jim puts himself in an impossible situation in order to save his friends. I couldn’t wait to see what really happened to Jim when he ran from the farmhouse. I knew that this would be an exciting story and it was but I did not expect to be so taken with Amira and the unique challenges that she faces. I really enjoyed watching Jim and Amira learn how to work with each other and become a team.
Jim and Amira were both great characters. I have had the chance to get to know Jim a bit over the course of the series but it was great getting the chance to see things from his point of view. Amira must take extra steps in order to protect herself and I really enjoyed seeing how she was able to navigate the world. I thought that the pair had great chemistry with each other and it was fun to watch them open up to one another.
Hilary Huber and Patrick Lawlor did a fantastic job with this story. I really enjoy books that use two narrators to represent the two points of view in the book. I thought that both of the narrators were able to bring the characters to life and I thought that they added a lot of excitement to the story. I feel like their narration added to my enjoyment of the book.
I would recommend this book to others. This book is part of a series but it could work as a stand-alone since it happens away from the rest of the group. I am so glad that I finally worked this one into my schedule. I definitely plan to read more from Kate L. Mary very soon.
I was wondering what happened to Jim after book 6 and here we get to see that there is so much more to the quiet former prisoner. Silent World is a great name for this one. When Jim is injured he is saved by Amira a young deaf woman. What follows is a very sweet love story between the two. After a couple very close calls with some zombies and men with evil intentions, Jim is able to convince Amira to go to Atlanta. With high hopes that moving on will give them a chance at a future together…..thinking this is going to be a nice few hundred mile trip to salvation.
I was really rooting for Jim & Amira’s relationship. Not knowing sign language it made communicating quite a challenge for the love birds. Amira being deaf meant Jim had to be her ears and protect her. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading this series and hope there will be more books in this series. You don’t need to be a zombie freak to like these books, just being a fan of a little romance and a hell of a lot of excitement will get you to the finish line..Thank you so very much Kate for turning me into a Zombie lover!
Enjoyed complete series
