Shattered World, the exciting sequel to Broken World, follows a group of survivors as they struggle to find safety in a world shattered by a devastating virus, and taken over by the walking dead… they were promised is sealed tight. Just when they think they’ve run out of time, the doors are thrown open. Five years underground with all the provisions there for the taking. It’s almost too good to be true. With the promise of security, Vivian hopes she’ll finally able to deal with the loss of Emily, her growing feelings for Axl, and the terrifying new world they’re facing.
But their sense of security is soon shattered when they discover the shelter isn’t the utopia they thought it would be. It seems the company that built the shelter decided to solve their financial problems by selling off provisions, which means the group has to find a way to get supplies. Or face starvation.
And Vegas is the closest city.
With her feelings for Axl stronger than ever, Vivian volunteers to accompany him and a few others on a trip into one of the biggest tourist cities in the world. Vegas is overrun with zombies, but there are other survivors as well. Only not everyone they meet is a welcome sight. As the emotional baggage piles up, Vivian and Axl’s bond grows, but it doesn’t take long to realize that zombies aren’t the only thing they have to fear.

Vivian, Axl, and Angus have finally reached a safe place, underground condos. The underground condos are the perfect safe place it has been well-stocked for five years or so that is what they were told when they first arrived but after a search through all the condos, they soon found that to no longer be true. They were low on lots of supplies like food and fuel for the generators, and medicines plus a number of other things.
They had enough supplies for about two weeks for the number of people there so they had to send a team out to look for more. The closes town or city was Las Vegas. Well, that worried me as Las Vegas is a big city that could hold a lot of zombies. Yeah, I was worried for them but I was excited for me as that meant a lot of zombies to fight, “chop, chop”.
Axl is one of the first to volunteer and Vivian is not far behind him in volunteering herself as her feelings for Axl have grown stronger and there was no way she was letting him go without her. I know exactly how she feels as I would definitely be the same way with my husband because I am now.
I always want to go with him everywhere to hopefully keep him safe. I know that if something happened there probably wouldn’t be much I could do but I guess that deep down I am hoping that if I am there I will have his back and nothing will happen or that I can see it before it does and stop it.
And as expected Las Vegas is overrun with zombies and I got to see (or felt as if I was seeing it) battle after battle as they fought zombies and more zombies. I got a little worried there when some of the zombies surrendered them leaving them with no way out. I could just see the whole thing going down in my head. I kept shouting out to them in my head to watch out or don’t do that. I wanted to crawl right into the book with them and kill a few zombies myself.
I got pretty worried about Vivian once when she got knocked down by two zombies and her knife went flying I didn’t know if she was going to make it out alive. Once I picked up Shattered World I couldn’t stop reading it until I had reached the end of the story. There was no way I could stop reading with that many walking dead wondering around looking and searching out their next meal.
I can’t wait to dive into the next book in the Broken World series, Mad World to see what is next for our little group. As with all of Kate L. Mary’s books I highly recommend Shattered World to all zombie fans. One-click your copy of Shattered World today!
The entire Broken World Series is a must read! The story starts pulling us in almost from the first page. The characters are so interesting, the situations they find themselves in are so believable.
You absolutely must read this series!
This book picks up where the first book in the series, “Broken Worlds”, left off. Vivan, Axl, Angus and the rest of their group of survivors are left stranded in the desert outside Las Vegas after bringing the jerk Mitchell to a secure bunker. Mitchell has promised that he will allow the group into the bunker, but you know how jerks get their reputations!
Without spoilers, I will say that this book has everything that you would want in a zombie apocalypse thriller. Plenty of zombie action, a little romance, a few nasty characters and some tears. And, of course, just when you think that everything is going well for the main characters, something goes wrong. Can’t anybody ever get a break when the zompoc hits?
But, the author has also added in a lot of emotion and plenty of unexpected twists to keep the interest of the reader. The book is fast paced, has great characters and loads of gore. Be aware: This book ends on a huge cliffhanger, so you will want to have Book 3 ready to read as soon as you finish this one.
The narrator does a great job with the pacing and her voices, even for the male characters, add a lot to the listener’s enjoyment.
We continue on to book 2 after the cliffhanger of book 1…….AND just in the nick of time too! Vivian, Axel and the gang are saved, but hold onto your hats folks because the zombies are multiplying faster than rabbits in this one. When a problem with a lack of supplies forces our group to venture from the protection of the shelter….a road trip to….where else….VEGAS is in order! What could possibly go wrong? Don’t ask!!!
I was on the edge of my seat reading this one. I just love our heroine Vivian and her sweetie Axel is great too. It’s so funny, I find myself wondering if this happened in real life how I would fair. I’m really thinking after reading all Kate L. Mary’s zombie books I’ll be an old hat at this zombie killing thing. Oh and this one has a cliffhanger at the end too…..can’t wait to dig my teeth into book 3!
Absolutely love it! Gonna read the series again soon!!!
Warning: You will get nothing else done until you finish this entire series!!!! Awesome writing! I read the first three in two days. Worth every complaint from your friends and family about you hiding away to read.
This series is now an all time favorite!!! Must read!!!
