Bree was so looking forward to the glamouras life of an industrial spy
but now she is not so sure. On her first mission she finds a dead body,
which isn’t so much fun. The victim has more enemies than Bree even
thought possible.

James (local cop), Matthew (covert ops) and Bree/Cat (PhD Chemist, covert ops) work together to find a murderer and what a chem lab is really developing. A little spice between the two guys and Bree, but nothing past kisses and flirtation, some of which was undercover as a couple. Suspense with murder, buildings blowing up and more. The action and surprises kept the pages turning as the clues changed the suspect pool so often. Nate was terrific as the covert ops lab tech/computer genius. Loved her crazy fat cat, Sherlock. Very well done.

Trent seems a poor team leader in the Science Ops scheme. A manipulative player, Kiki might well have been a better choice – although Kiki seems to be facing her own unexpected challenges
Bree apparently feels a bit frustrated in her undercover work, though some results seem better than she hoped for. The case involving a sloppy sorority and some blackmail turns nasty and lethal
The biggest mystery Bree seems unable to solve is about Detective James and Spook Matthew: how involved is she with either? How involved does she want to be? Can she manage an uninterrupted date with either of them?
Science and police work meet psyops and clumsy romance in this fun to read series

This was such a delightful second book in this romantic comedy-mystery series that I am enjoying very much! The premise of the entire series is original with an MC that is smart, resourceful, likable, and funny with not one but two yummy love interests! I am so happy that I stumbled upon this author and this truly wonderful series written by such a talented author! I am eager to see how events will continue to unfold for Bree (or should I say Cat) as she gets deeper and deeper into her persona of a scientist by day and an international spy by night!

Cozies are one of my favorite type of books to read, and this series stands out as offering a unique content that draws the reader right in. Dr. Gabriella (“Bree”) Mayfield-Watson is a PhD chemist who has become a spy which seemed like a good idea at the time. Having a body turn up during her undercover mission, she finds her path disrupted and a slew of diversions she needs to now deal with! Trying to keep her identity hidden during the murder investigation presents its own challenges! Can Bree find the murderer so she can get back to her mission? Will she perhaps even find a new love interest along the way?
Descriptions and character development are handled very well and made the story even more enjoyable. Using Bree’s chemistry skills and the scientific approach to problem-solving was intriguing and clever. There are even furry friends added to the mix to make the story perfect and loveable. Don’t hesitate – grab your copy and join the investigation! Or are we going for the spy mission? No wonder Bree is confused!
This story is as complex and carefully organized as the molecular structure of a diamond. Bree is still the brilliant character I started falling in love with in the previous book, but now she’s also dealing with all kinds of new complications. Handsome heroes competing to turn her head, a serious identity crisis, and another murder to solve. I kind of suspected who the villain turned out to be, but it took me a lot longer this time to figure out everything that was going on in this book. And several things still managed to catch me completely off guard. I had so much fun with this book and I’m desperately looking forward to reading more in the series.

The second book in the series did not disappoint. Bree is sent undercover as an undergrad in chemistry to investigate a lab with possible ties to illegal drugs. On her second day there, one of the suspects dies and she ends up looking into a murder as well. Detective O’Neil is investigating the murder and she and Matthew assist while also completing their initial investigation. There are a lot of individuals with reason to dislike the victim, but it takes time to figure out who really committed the murder. I enjoyed the recipes included at the end of the book and hope to try a few. I also, enjoyed the processes Bree used to solve the cases. Her relationships with both James O’Neil and Matthew are heating up. I wonder when she will end up choosing one or neither of them.

Shaken, Not Purred by Kelle Z Riley is a romantic suspense with a side of science. The only way I can think of describing this is a cozy mystery with a massive science injection. Ms. Riley has delivered a book that is well-written and populated it with phenomenal characters. Bree is a spy passing herself off as Cat Holmes. She waffles between love interests Tugood, her handler and the only cop that knows she’s a spy, James. Their mission is to find out if drugs are being made at Naturalistics. There’s plenty of drama, humor, action and suspense to keep readers turning the pages. I enjoyed reading Shaken, Not Purred. Shaken, Not Purred is book 2 of the Undercover Cat Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I read a print copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
