Looks like it’s time for Harper Hall to save the day. Again.Harper has accomplished a lot over the years. She’s fallen in love, gotten married, and raised a supernaturally gifted baby, all while running the most successful PI business in the state. She’d mention her hot-as-hell dhampyre husband Noah Riddick, too…but that’d just be bragging. It’s not like challenges haven’t presented … haven’t presented themselves, either. Vampire serial killers? Yep. Caught a few of those. Supernatural mafia? Shut that down ages ago. Hostage negotiations? Fuhgedaboudit. So when someone near and dear to Riddick’s heart is targeted by a maniacal military asshat intent on building an army of genetically engineered super-soldiers, Harper knows she’ll have to fix things once again. Especially since the asshat in question just happens to be her father …
But it’s not long before Harper and Riddick realize the military is the least of their concerns, and if they aren’t careful, they just might trigger a paranormal apocalypse. Can Harper and her band of semi-magical misfits save the world–or will this be the end of Harper Hall Investigations (and life as we know it)–once and for all?
NOTE: This is a crossover novel, and while it could be read as a standalone, it definitely works better when read as part of the Harper Hall Investigations series. Here’s the reading order:
Book 1: Semi-Charmed
Book 2: Semi-Human
Book 3: Semi-Twisted
Book 4: Semi-Broken
Book 5: Semi-Sane
Book 5.5: Semi-Obsessed

Harper Hall is BACK!!
Plot overview: There’s a possible paranormal apocalypse in the works, and it’s up to Harper Hall and her band of semi-magical misfits to save the day. Again.
So, there’s a ton of stuff I like about this series. And I’m talking about the series before I talk about the book because Semi-Magical does not read as a standalone. You have to read the other books in the series to really understand what’s going on. I mean, you can follow the STORY without having read the series, but to really appreciate the characters and nuance of it all, you need to have read the series. Here’s the reading order in case you haven’t seen this one yet:
Semi-Charmed
Semi-Human
Semi-Twisted
Semi-Broken
Semi-Sane
Semi-Obsessed
Semi-Magical
Now that THAT’S out of the way, here’s what I love about the series:
The women always take center stage. There’s no girl-on-girl hate, and the women always support each other. And each heroine kicks ass in her own special way.
Harper Hall kicks ass in MANY ways, but I digress…
1. The men are alpha without ever being alphaholes
2. The dialogue is snappy and hilarious and makes it hard to stop reading once you’ve started
3. There’s plenty of action, so these books often read like a combination of my favorite TV shows and movies
4. It’s not a series that takes itself too seriously. Sure, there’s some drama, but there’s also plenty of laughs to balance it all out
5. Nerdy pop culture references GALORE. Yay!
So all the stuff I love about the series is present in this latest book, which is a crossover novel into a NEW series that sounds super interesting.
I won’t give any of the plot away, but the stakes in this book are a little higher than the stakes in the other books in the series. Like, world-altering stakes. :0
That’s all I’m going to say. Other than this: go read this series, starting with book 1, Semi-Charmed, if you haven’t already. If you are already a fan of this series, go download this book immediately. You won’t regret it.

When I heard that author Isabel Jordan was working on a new Harper Hall book, I was ecstatic!! I love Harper Hall and the gang and I was only too happy to spend more time with them. Semi-Magical does feature all my favorite characters but there were some new additions as well as an entirely new overarching plot. Exciting times, my friends, exciting times! With this being a crossover novel, you could read this book as a start to a new series but it would be better if you had read the Harper Hall Investigations series prior to Semi-Magical. If you don’t want to do that then I will give you the bare bones: Harper is very sarcastic but has a big heart inside. She and her husband, Noah Riddick, are one hot couple and they love each other deeply. She loves her family, both blood and by choice, and she will take down anyone stupid enough to mess with them. Her friends and family all feel the same way and her mother is incredibly scary for good reason but you really need to read the previous books to understand why. There just isn’t enough time :D.
I enjoyed reading Semi-Magical because it was a story that delighted me in the best of ways! There was a major surprise for both Harper and Riddick but really it was more like a dream come true for Riddick. A very touching situation but there was a deep emotional cost that luckily was addressed by everyone immediately. I love that about the gang! That was not the end of the story though, there was a major development with Harper’s father that opened up a predicament that could affect the entire world as they knew it. Now, you know that wasn’t going to be something that Harper and the gang could ignore and they jumped right in but this time their children were also along for the ride. That led to a few interesting developments with the offspring of the characters and my lips are sealed on what those developments were but let me tell you I am very excited to see where things lead in this new series. Also, the investigation business is essentially being revamped with a much broader scope in mind, which is extremely exciting! Semi-Magical was magic to my curiosity and I am now inflamed with excitement to see what happens next!!
