An affluent businessman from Houston in need of help with his sick nephew… A small-town paramedic in need of healing… Will a season of romance bring them together or pull them apart?Businessman Andrey Sergeyev’s organized life changes in ways he never planned when he becomes guardian of his orphaned nephew. He moves to small town Rios Azules to care for grieving Ilya in the boy’s familiar … the boy’s familiar environment. Andrey’s fiancée breaks off the engagement because of Ilya’s health challenges. Another romance is not on Andrey’s agenda, no matter how much paramedic Melinda Macalister attracts him with her sweet smile, kindness, and neighborly support for Ilya…
Melinda isn’t looking for love, either, especially after her last boyfriend left her because of her health issues. She’ll just have to hide her crush on her new neighbor. He’s going back to Houston soon anyway. But she can’t refuse to help him with Ilya, who needs her more than ever. Problem is, the more she gets to know Andrey, the more she realizes he might be the one for her.
Will Andrey and Melinda choose to keep holding on to old hurts? Or will they find love in Rios Azules, Texas?
This book, Season of Romance, was first published as Love’s Ransom, as part of the First Street Church Kindle World. The book has been revised, improved, and greatly expanded in length, so it’s nearly twice longer.

I really enjoyed reading this book. So emotional with real life situations. It’s nice that Ilya had a neighbor who knew how to help with his diabetes. Ilya is blessed to have a loving uncle to take care of him. I definitely recommend reading this book. Alexa Verde has a gift for writing great stories.
When Andrey’s brother dies, he becomes guardian to his nephew who has Type 1 diabetes. He meets his neighbor, Melinda, who also has Type 1. Melinda helps Andrey navigate his new normal and educates him about Ilya’s diabetes. His fiance leaves as she can’t/won’t deal with Ilya. Melinda had been engaged, but her fiance broke it off as her Type 1 was too much to deal with. She’s sworn off falling in love, getting married, and having children. The more Andrey and Melinda spend time together, the more they fall for each other, and the more Andrey steps closer to God. Can Andrey change Melinda’s mind, and get her to see that they could make a marriage work??
Melinda teaches Andrey to deal with his nephew’s illness, that she shares.
She also convinces him to reach for his dream instead of living out his parents’ dream.
While that is going on both Andrey and Melinda fall in love.
She is reluctant to believe he could love her, though.
A sweet small town romance with loss and a child and dealing with diabetes. It was an enjoyable read with a lot of family involved.
A great read that deals with type 1 diabetes and it’s life long concern, even with relationships and family.
I loved this book. A really great small town with a big hear. I loved how a stranger, although a relative, learned what love really was. I loved Melinda and her courage she was faithful to God and He blessed her more abundantly than she ever expected
What a beautiful love story! And more that just a romantic love story (although the romance is rather awesome!). This is a love story about family and faith. Absolutely fantastic!
This is one of those books that takes your emotions for a ride that ends up with an HEA. Melinda, a paramedic with Type 1 diabetes, is a neighbor to a boy Ilya with the same condition. When the boy’s father dies, Ilya’s uncle Andrey comes to care for him and expects to stay about a month to let him grieve in a familiar place before taking him to Houston where Andrey runs the business started by his parents. Melinda and Andrey are easy to like, and I quickly was hoping that their romance would work out. I want to know how Melinda smells like cocoa. What a great scent for a perfume! There is tension created in the story by Andrey’s ex girlfriend, his parents, living with diabetes, and trying to raise a heart-broken boy. I’ve enjoyed all of the books that I’ve read in this series and plan to read more by this author. I recommend this to clean/wholesome romance readers and to Christian fiction readers.
This one really touched my heart. Melinda has been put down by a man who has little heart & can’t accept her diabetic condition. Audrey becomes her neighbor when he comes to town to care for his nephew who also is diabetic. They both have many obstacles to overcome. Then there is Audrey’s mother who is totally against Melinda. It touched me how they all came to make changes & have an HEA.
She allowed her life to be governed by diabetes. She had been made to feel less than because of it and closed off the part of her heart that wanted love. He had lost a brother and led the life other’s wanted and expected of him, loosing his will and God in the process. These two find ore than love in each other. They find the ability to see a future and experience it and in the process drew closer to the God she served and the one he had set aside. There’s no preaching. There’s no work on her part to change him and this author doesn’t make this book into a platform to win you to God. What she does is better. She feels us with the spirit and love of the on true God in the best way possible, by living it.
Awesome read with all the feels and all the trials worked through not overlooked. It’s a beautiful story from an author who has captured my heart and made me a fan. It’s a clean read that doesn’t skimp on the romance and it’s a standalone read.
When Andrey came to take care of Ilya his life changes. Andrey doesn’t know anything about taking care of someone with health problems. When Melinda stops over to check on Ilya she knows exactly what to do to help him. The characters in this book are all very special people in you will enjoy reading about. You will feel God working throughout this wonderful book. I had the honor to review this book for the author for a honest review. I would give this book a higher rating than a five star review if I could.
I love all Alexa’s books, and this one didn’t disappoint. Andrey is such a wonderful hero, changing his life for the sake of his nephew.
A sweet and faith-filled romance.
