A lot of deliciousness in this book. I’m a fan of a well written apocalyptic series and Nikita Slater did a fantastic job in the Sanctuary’s Warlord.
I just love the big, scary heroes that everyone is afraid of except the heroine. Diogo fit this to a T. He controls with an iron fist and that includes his protection of Taran, even though she should be his enemy.
I also really love a smart and cunning heroine. This is also Taran to a T. I don’t want to see an immature heroine or one who makes really stupid decision. Taran was everything I could respect in a heroine.
The world building was very creative and explained in enough detail to really set the image in my head. This is the first in a series and does end on a cliffhanger. I am really looking forward to the next book in the series to see where the author will take these two.
Wow wow wow!! This one is a bit different than what I have read from this author. But let me just say you will definitely don’t what to miss out on Diogo and Taran journey it has it tough moments but also sweet and I even found funny moments. I’m so looking forward to next one with that ending it just left me so on edge to know what roads would Diogo And Taran take. Would Diogo cage his wren or will she fly? So many desperate and anxious moments to have with this one I just can’t wait to find out.
I absolutely adored this book I’ve been meaning to read it for a while as the blurb sounded so intriguing.
It’s set in a dystopian future and the year is 2073 civilisation has been decimated by a virus turning those infected into primitives. These primitive humans are now basically mindless zombies, but we don’t call them that it’s not PC apparently.
In the wake of this devastation human sanctuaries have been established to keep the primitives out and our girl Taran is living in one of these built on the ashes of Tuscon.
These sanctuaries follow a dictatorship rule where only the strong survive.
On arrival here, Taran’s grandparents were turned away while she was forcibly married off to a stranger while still a teenager.
Now years later Taran operates as a leader of the rebellion smuggling refugees into the city.
She is the unknown face of the rebel movement and has been monikered the desert wren.
Commander Diogo Fuentes is the warlord in charge of the city over the years he has become obsessed and fascinated with the elusive rebel.
When she’s caught in his trap instead of the execution she anticipates she finds herself now under his command and with this the ability to change things from the inside and be the voice of conscience Diogo needs.
Taran also sees a different man than what she was expecting Diogo is nothing like she imagined and as the two grow closer she can’t help but care and fall for him but with opposite agendas, the road to happiness is paved with mistrust and misaligned goals and Taran is faced with impossible choices follow her heart or disregard her very core principles.
This was such an absorbing read and very well written. dystopian romance is a favourite genre of mine and this delivered on all fronts.
Together Diogo and Taran had so much chemistry and let’s talk about that explosive finale well it left me literally on the edge of my seat.
I’m definitely picking up the next book in this series I need to know what happens next.
This is book one of a trilogy and I’m excited to see where this goes next and how Diogo and Taran evolve as a couple. Recommend this 100% it was brilliant.

I loved this dystopian hot release from Nikita Slater. I Don’t read this genre much but I definitely will read much more from now on because of this. I really enjoyed reading Taran and Diogo’s characterization was extremely well done. I loved the contrast and their highs and lows throughout the story. It definitely was not predictable and a definite page turner fo me. I need the next one soon! This was definitely a different than usual book from this author and I ended up enjoying it a lot more than I had anticipated.

Nikita Slater never fails to amaze. She has created quite an interesting dystopian world in this book which is plagued by diseased people, breaking down the previous world order as sanctuaries now play key roles in preserving human livelihood.
Diogo is the leader of such a sanctuary. He is under immense pressure, taking cruel decisions in order to protect his people. He does not apologize in taking what he considers to be his and that turns out to be the illusive Desert Wren, Taran.
Taran rebels against the prevelant system that seems to disregard the welfare of mass people. Her unwavering moral compass and dream of a better world intrigues Diogo and they are brought together in an impassioned relationship that pushes the bounderies of their previous thoughts and beliefs, proving that nothing is ever as it seems.
This story was an adventure that only became better with each chapter. The cliffhanger at the end makes me wish that I had the next book right now to continue to see what occurs to Taran and Diogo who were wonderful characters. I cannot wait to see what happens next.
WOW!!!! This story is explosive fantastic!!!! I loved the characters and the story line. The H and h was just awesome. I can not wait for the second book. Just a Fabulous job!!!!
holy crap.. wow! I have loved this author for her mafia stories but this post apocalyptic theme.. im seriously blown away and how good this was! original, believable, sensual, suspenseful, So much action and SO many plots going on that were completely unexpected. this was such an amazing story, oh my gosh. AH and BOOK TWO!
MUST READ
WOW! This story took a hold of me from the beginning and didn’t let go.
Diego is a warlord of the sanctuary and rules with an iron fist. He has been chasing the Desert Wren for years and comes to admire what she does and how the rebels hold her in high esteem.
Taron is caught in an unfortunate circumstance when she is captured and she has to live with the warlord.
Nikita writes intense and riveting stories. And that ending…WOW!
This love story between a dictator and a rebel is unpredictable, addictive, and unlike anything I’ve read before. Taran is a strong woman devoted to the rebellion. The Warlord is a man feared by all and he is immediately taken with the woman he has been tracking for years. Taran soon realizes that the man she has been ingrained to despise may not be everything he’s rumored to be. She struggles between her loyalty to her people and to the man she is beginning to love. This storyline is fast paced and the cliffhanger ending leaves you wanting much more. I look forward to reading the next book in this series.
•REVIEW & RECOMMENDATION•
Dystopian fans, especially dark romance lovers out there, this book is gold!
Title: Sanctuary’s Warlord
Author: Nikita Slater
Ratings:
I couldn’t recommend this book enough. Seriously. This book left me with so many emotions, I’m still feeling high from them.
This is the first book in the series and we are introduced to the infamous Taran, widely known as the Desert Wren. Her character here speaks intelligence, courage, bravery and most of all, she’s the people’s rebel. She’s well-loved and well-respected in the Sanctuary and she’s the number one enemy of the Warlord, the city’s Authority.
I love Taran’s character. Her idealism and care for people, her views and opinions made me respect and adore her. She’s not just a rebel stirring commotions; she’s a real rebel with a sincere and respective cause. You will love her character here. She’s fierce and just a breath of fresh air, really.
The Warlord, the Sanctuary’s city Authority, Diogo, is one I as well understand. He leads with dictatorship because it has been needed in his city to provide peace and order in times of rising and continous havoc. He’s had his own share of brutality; but it’s deemed needed in order to show people control in times of chaos and rebellions. He has his sights to the Desert Wren though and it is now time for him to capture the little bird.
Little did he know, it’ll be the start of damnation of both of them…
From start to finish, this book gave me a lot to ponder. Their characters may clash, as well as their idealism and approach but they both have one same goal; to survive the fall of nation. I actually was left not knowing which of them to side with! Both have proven to only want what’s best for the people of their city. But chances are taken away; betrayals, power hungry leaders will give both main characters someyhing that will not only shake the city’s foundation, but their relationship as well.
What will happen to them now, especially with how this book ended? That, I intend to find out!
Nikita Slater has come so much better and it’s proven with this book! The author’s writing and story ideas in this book amazes me to no end! I can honestly say that this is her best book yet!
I have to admit I am not usually a fan of dystopian tropes but since I love this author I had to give it a shot! Let me tell you, I was not disappointed! The characters and the world building was so good! It is only book 1 so of course there is one heck of a cliffy but I can’t wait for book 2!
Taran is an idealistic passionate heroine who cleverly works around the rules of Sanctuary. Diogo is a brutal authoritarian Warlord who is harsh with everyone except Taran. The storyline is good without being to far from the realm of possibility. Do I have any idea how this total opposites couple
can possibly work out? No but this storyline has captured my attention so I will be eagerly anticipating the next book in this series. I recommend this one!
Oh my goodness!! That was such an amazing read!! My heart is racing, I’m sitting here in shock at the end of it, wanting the next book RIGHT NOW!!
This was a great, fast paced, suspenseful dystopian romance. It’s hard to find a good dystopian/end of the world romance lately, but this definitely ticks all the boxes! I was absolutely in love with Diogo! I’m just sitting here in shock now, jaw dropped, cannot believe how she ended the book! Book 2 cannot come fast enough!!
A futuristic, fast-paced, page-turner. 5+Stars….
Who doesn’t love a Warlord. The name alone sends your imagination all over the place for an alpha, rugged, strong, good-looking male. And you won’t be wrong, Diogo Fuentes, is the Warlord of a Sanctuary city that is standing against the Primitives. Basically, the world has all but been destroyed by a disease that ravaged humanity. It’s what’s left of humans against those that contacted the flesh-eating bacteria. Primitives attack anything in their path. Diogo is holding a city strong against the Primitives, thus the title Warlord. Taran, a rebel in the city, fights to help smuggle humans into the city so they can survive. Diogo has finally captured the elusive Taran better known as the Desert Wren. I loved how this story evolved. It’s a love story, with intrigue, horrors, death, and so much more. It is completely different from what I usually read and I am so glad I did read it. I have never read anything I did not like from Nikita Slater and this just proves that she is a brilliant author. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
I am such a fan of Nikita Slater! She hooked me with her Queens series and then again with her novellas written with Jasmin Quinn. I have never been disappointed in a book by Nikita.
This story, Sanctuary’s Warlord, is so good. It’s unique, well written and the characters are engaging. I care about them now and want them to succeed. I won’t go into plot (read the blurb), but I will tell you I loved every minute of this read.
The Warlord, not who we thought he was; the Desert Wren, more than we originally perceived. It ends on a cliffie, and, wow, what a cliffie it is. This is story telling at its finest. Highly recommended.
Holy WOW! Nikita is a master at knowing how to write a dark and twisted book and keep you 100% interested. This book is no exception. WONDERFUL!!!
WOW Amazing!
OMG that was a fantastic futuristic roller coaster ride! This story is packed full with so much suspense, action and amazing sizzling moments. I could not put this book down. Every chapter kept me enraptured and on the edge of my seat. I yelled and I cursed towards the end. I even wanted to throw my kindle at the wall. This story made me feel so much love, hate and loathing for the main characters. I love Diogo’s fierceness and Taran’s passion and loyalty. Combined they are a force to be reckoned with. And that ending was an amazing cliffhanger! I literally yelled OH NO!
Fantastic writing and amazing world building. Each and every character was perfectly written. I can’t wait to read the next book.
This is one series you don’t want to miss. Highly recommend.
Post apocalyptic/ dystopian + Nikita Salter’s = YES!
I’ve been waiting for Sanctuary’s Warlord for what feels like YEARS! I read the little blurb the author posted on social media and it stuck in my brain. This whole book is stuck in my brain. I read it. Closed my ebook reader cover, sat there a minute, opened it back up and started at the beginning again. I’ll absolutely be reading this again and again. And again. This was a love story. A survival story. An adventure story. A story about two strong souls coming together and being the better for it. The characters are wonderfully written and Taran and Diogo are perfect. And of course, their smexy times are hawt.
I highly recommend this book -and this author. If you’re on the fence, just do it. Okay, yes. It ends on a cliffhanger, but from what the author is saying (these characters and this story deserve more time) and because of what you get in this book, I’m willing to overlook my want for immediate gratification.
I was given an ARC from the author for my honest review. And honestly, it was amazing.
