Oh my goodness!! I so hate waiting for the next one to come that is why is rare where I read a book knowing that will end in a big cilffhanger. In on Sanctuary on Fire was one of the biggest one as of yet and now I have to wait until the next one to come. It just left me wondering and hoping that Diogo and Taran get their happy ever after in this apocalyptic world they live on.
This is the second book in the series and I definitely enjoyed it. This picks up directly after that shocker of a finale and here we get the aftermath of Taran’s bite and Diogo’s struggle to allow his wife out of his sight or unprotected especially with all that went down previously.
Diogo is still willing to remove anyone or thing he believes a threat to his little bird even if it means withholding vital information from her for her own well-being.
In fact, I think he’s become even more intense in regards to Taran and his need to own every part of her soul.
There’s a lot going on with this one and we get to spend some time away from the sanctuary and also experience some more intense action with the primitives.
New players are also introduced and there are escalating concerns within the city the rebels are becoming more problematic and causing chaos and theirs also a wider issue concerning other sanctuary city’s. This again ended on another cliffhanger and I can’t wait to find out what is coming next.
One of my favourite parts about this series is how possessive and obsessed Diogo is about his wife.
In his eyes, she hung the moon and I don’t think there’s anything she could do to turn him away from her he’s completely devoted. She is now his reason for everything he does and keeping her safe and alive his ultimate priority.
Taran equally loves her husband right back and even if their views don’t always align he has become everything to her even as she struggles to reconcile her past goals with her new future by his side.
This series has turned out to be amazing and I’m loving everything about it I definitely recommend it if you like dystopian romance it’s a good one.

I actually loved this book more than the first. Diogo’s need to protect Taran exceeded everything and everyone, even Taran’s love for him. He ruled with an iron fist but was never cruel or abusive. He just knew he wouldn’t survive without her and he was desperate to keep her safe. Man, how can you not love a hero like that?
I also really liked that Taran stayed true to her character. She was still fiercely independent and protective of others. It caused what I would say is a good kind of angst between her and Diogo. I just really loved this couple and they are the type that will have me wanting more of them.
I liked the twist brought into book 2. You can see the author setting up another couple here. I’ve got my fingers crossed that when it’s their time for their story, it will be just as good as Diogo and Taran’s.
This is only book 2 and does leave off on another cliffhanger. You bet ya I will be reading book 3 to see how they are going to get out of their new predicament.
Sanctuary on Fire is the follow up book for Sanctuary’s Warlord that shows more in depth problems arising in the new world where Primitives seem to be evolving, Nuclear power plants are melting, the rebels are more causing problems and more importantly, the discovery that both sisters (Taran and Skye) are both immune to the Necrotitis disease.
The story just flows fluidly. The plot thickens and the characters’ growth is admirable and in tune to the plot. Nikita’s writing have been so much better as this series progresses.
Taran and Diogo is now facing a new threat and this one includes all of the people in New Tucson Sanctuary as well as all the Eastern sanctuaries.
I can’t wait to read the next book!
