Coming home should be the easiest thing in the world, but I’ve never felt more lost…When his stellar military career comes to an abrupt and terrible end, thirty-two-year-old Maddox Kent returns to the town he never planned to step foot into again, hoping to mend the rift he himself caused with the brother he left behind. But coming home means facing some hard truths about himself and his … and his actions. When he has the chance to start making amends by helping his brother with the wildlife sanctuary he runs, Maddox is thrown another curveball when a stranger appears…
As long as we keep moving, everything will be okay. That’s what I keep telling myself, anyway…
For twenty-one-year-old Isaac, Pelican Bay is only supposed to be a stopping point on the trek from San Francisco to New York. With his little brother, Newt, in tow, Isaac is just looking to make things right by returning something of value to a person he wronged. But “getting lost” in the next big city proves to be a problem when the brutal Minnesota winter claims Isaac’s car and strands him and Newt at the animal sanctuary. When the owners of the place offer him a job, a desperate Isaac agrees, despite the presence of a man Isaac instinctively knows could be his downfall…
It should be so easy to let him go, but I can’t. And not just because I want to protect him…
Nothing about Isaac makes sense to Maddox. Not his piercings or makeup or flashy clothes. And most certainly not the snarky mouth that doesn’t match the vulnerability Maddox sees in the younger man’s eyes. But one thing does make sense to the hardened former soldier. Isaac is running from something, and Maddox’s gut is telling him not to let Isaac and little Newt go until he can ferret out the truth.
But having Isaac around means trying to make sense of something else Maddox isn’t expecting… his own body’s response to the beautiful younger man. Aside from their explosive chemistry, nothing about the straitlaced soldier and the secretive misfit works.
But maybe that’s exactly why it does…
*Can be read as a standalone (no cliffhangers) but more enjoyment may be had by reading book 1 first

I’ve read all three of the books in this series and I can not wait to read the rest! Sanctuary Found is the story of Maddox and Isaac (and Newt!), two people who normally wouldn’t have crossed paths but because they both end up at the wildlife sanctuary they not only meet, they spend time together, and end up healing each other. The sex scenes are not only steamy but also tender. Must read series!
One of my new favorites
I don’t even know what it is about this series that just does it for me. Broken, (relatively) average men finding their HEA. This one was a little extra special, with great characters that are very different to what SK has done before. And the little boy who nearly stole the show. I’m feeling a little speechless after reading, so may be more review to come after more processing.
Issac and Maddox are truly fantastic characters and I love their journey in this book. I love that both men were able to be the others sanctuary when life became too much. Newt is by far the best character of the series. Him and his posse of Loki and Snot are freaking adorable. I can’t wait for more of this series!
5+**
Another amazing book by Lennox and Kennedy.
This touching story about 2 young abused boys finding a family and love is truly emotional and inspirational.
The chemistry between Maddox and Isaac is evident. Their differences make for an interesting unique couple. Isaac’s charm and heart is really what makes this story.
Issac and Maddox were smoking hot! As with any Sloane Kennedy book, the chemistry between the characters was off the charts and the relationship and family aspect of the series was so very strong that even Issac eventually believed they could all be a family. Newt was absolutely adorable and the way that everyone banded around Issac and Newt when they needed them the most was heartwarming. This was a beautiful story in the series.
Isaac and Maddox. Issac and Maddox? Hmmm, these are two completely different people both in appearance and character. At the beginning I didn’t know what to think. It was the hot and cold game they played that was the start of their both healing and accepting truths about themselves.
Maddox, big and tough soldier, hard on the surface but vulnerable underneath. I would compare him to an armadillo. His shell is definitely tough to crack but once you get in he goes belly up, not just for everyone but select few. Isaac, thinking he shows his mask of piercings and make up to the world to protect himself, is running scared but determined to be independent. I respected him for that alone. There were other things too. His goodness showed at the beginning when he did the right thing even while being scared of persecution by returning the violin. That right there sets the tone about what kind of person he is.
This is the story about being yourself, not conforming to everybody’s standards and about learning to forgive and heal. It’s hard to see them struggle, to fight for what they want and who they love. But the old and new friends at their side help them get justice and have peace. They are sexy, loving and romantic. The book was such a joy to read although difficult at times but joy nonetheless. I highly recommend the series and hope there will more books coming!
This is the second book in the Pelican Bay series. You could probably read this as a stand-alone but I think based on the nature of how both characters are introduced, it’s better to have read the first book. I enjoyed this book but not quite as much as the first in the series. It takes Maddox and Isaac quite a while to finally truly come together. They definitely make an interesting couple and there is some panty kink that I wasn’t expecting. I did find things a bit hard to believe when it came down to the whole custody of Newton (Isaac’s 4 year old brother). I understand why the author made quick work of it in order to reach a happily ever after, it is just extremely unrealistic. Overall I enjoyed this book and I’m really looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
