From bestselling author S. Usher Evans comes a brilliant urban fantasy series about a demon hunter struggling to reclaim the man he once was and the demon who might just save him. Fans of Jim Butcher and Kim Harrison will enjoy this unique take on overcoming demons – both real and imagined.
Demons are real – and walk amongst us every day. At the International Coalition for Demon Management, … for Demon Management, agent Jack Grenard knows this better than most. The scion of a demon hunting family, his career was on an upward trajectory until demons brutally murdered his wife. Three years later, he’s restarting his life in Atlanta with his partner Cam, dealing with low-level demonic lords and keeping the peace. But looming in the distance is Demon Spring, the breaking of the barrier between our world and the demonic one that occurs every four years. No one knows when or where it will occur exactly, but the unlucky city will be ravaged for a fortnight by monsters and mayhem.
Jack has it on good authority that the schism will occur far from Atlanta – that is, until he comes across a human-saving demon who seems to be keeping a secret. She’s enigmatic and dangerous, but Jack is inexplicably drawn to her. But as the days tick closer to Demon Spring, Jack wonders if she’s simply a distraction or something much more deadly.
Get swept away in an intricate world of monsters and mayhem that RT Reviews calls, “a brilliant start to a promising urban fantasy series.”

Jack, Cam, and Anya make an interesting trio. Jack is an emotionally broken widower. Cam is a career minded woman. But Anya is striving for salvation. I look forward to reading a lot more about Anya.
I was provided this book as an ARC by the author; however, the review is my honest opinion.
I don’t usually care for books about demons but this one really held my interest. The characters were very interesting and the demons were very humanistic.
Jackson and Cam are partners. But time has passed since he was a field agent and things are different. He is having trouble keeping up and she is constantly scrutinized by her supervisor. Especially now, with a stranger who targets demons.
Nothing wrong with killing demons, right? Well, here there is a truce. The demon ruler gets to use it’s authority in exchange for cooperation in keeping humans safe.
There is something odd about that stranger, and it peeks Jackson’s mode of operation. Somehow he becomes more involved than and agent seeking a perp. He gets a dose of reality when he is taken into the demon world and observes the demon overlord, and the interaction between the stranger and the overlord.
Take time to read the author’s note at the end of the story. Just in case you didn’t see the “signs” as you read, she will tell you.
The first in a trilogy, with Jack and Cam, agents for the International Coalition for Demon Management (ICDM) fighting demons of every kind. The story follows their struggle against the demons that appear every four years during Demon Spring. As much an action novel as a depiction of the relationship between the two agents. The writing is interesting and entertaining.
Every 4 years a Demon Spring happens, where demons come to earth from a fissure and wreak havoc. Unfortunately, humans are fair game and they have nothing that can kill the demons short of cutting off their heads. Partners Jack and Cam work for ICDM and in the years between Demon Spring, they work with local demons that live on earth to keep the peace. But rumors of the upcoming demon spring say it will be one of the worst and that Bael, the king of demons, will resurface after over 100 years of being gone. But without knowing exactly when it will happen, or where, they might just get caught unprepared.
Eek! So I love when an author does a paranormal/suspense, and considering I already love Sush’s writing, that just makes the combo here perfect. I adored Cam because she’s strong and feisty, and incredibly smart. I love that she pushes Jack to be his best when he’s been out of the game for so long. They work great as a team. I even really liked Colibri/Anya, because she was a demon who had realized the wrong of her ways. While this ended on a cliffhanger, some things sorted themselves out, so I wasn’t too upset about that because I bought all 3 books in the series at once so I get to continue on, which I’m super excited about. Fantastic Read!
This is the third book I have read by S. Usher Evans and I have enjoyed each one more than the last. Demons! Redemption! Kick-ass Main Character! What is not to like?
Resurgence hits on several hard subjects, including Domestic Violence, Loss, and Depression; and it makes you pause. The characters are relatable and will push you through the emotional wringer.
I love that Cam and Jack have a strong platonic relationship. They back each up and roll with the punches. The fact that Cam is business minded, sassy and still gets her ass handed to her is a relief from the “perfectly right” characters that I see all too often. Jack, being a grieving widower, makes my heart weep. As for Anya, her’s might be the saddest story, and I am looking forward to seeing how it ends.
Being the first book of the series, the pace is a tad slow, but that’s expected. Lots of character building, and there are plenty of characters. The demon world is plentiful too, and Usher gives great descriptions, both physical and mystical.
Personally, I can’t wait to chew the second book into confetti.
