Rescuing Reeve
(Cassidy Kincaid Book 2)
by Amy Waeschle
Rescuing Reeve is the second book of the Cassidy Kincaid series, a well written story of a horrible topic, which runs rapid in todays society. A captivating storyline with a plot that has many twists and turns, filled with action, drama, and suspense. Rescuing Reeve has explanatory writing which will draw the reader emotionally into each scene, and has a different end than anticipated, leading into the next book in the series. I am sure that many readers will love it, but it is not suitable for all age groups.
Ms. Amy is a talented author, and this book shows that a great bit of research has been done before writing this story, (which I really enjoy reading about the locations), describing the world in her story perfectly. Her characters are exceptional and well developed, with believable characteristics and distinct personalities; readers will find the lead female character’s emotional state is easily understood.
Not an easy book to read but it is a great read, slow getting started; but I could not put it down. This was my first read of a book by Ms. Amy Waeschle and I cannot wait for the next book in this series. I am interested in other works by this author. Thank you, Ms. Amy, and to the free Savage Creek Press for sharing this series. These are my own thoughts and feeling about this book and the author, giving both a 5-star rating
NO SPOILERS
This was my first read of a book by Amy Waeschle. Count me as hooked. The story was well crafted with different plot threads intertwined, an interesting if troubled protagonist, excellent supporting characters, and enough curve balls to keep the reader guessing. Cassidy Kincaid is doing research for her PhD as a Seismologist and as she is getting ready to depart to go back to her university, she is contacted by her stepsister. Though they are not close Cassidy is pressured into trying to find her stepbrother who has dropped off the radar. Against her better judgment, she agrees to see what, if anything, she can determine. Her location and other priorities are made more challenging as her stepbrother has a history of drug use and irresponsibility. (Drug use in Central America. What could possibly go wrong?)
Having lived elsewhere in the tropics, I found her descriptions of the weather, surroundings, and things in general to be spot on. Her details about dealing with the local authorities is also the problematic mess that I found to be true where I was.
I’m not a surfer, but Cassidy is and the level of detail provided by the author sounds like she is a surfer herself. Fun if you are as well. Informative if not.
Bottom line for me is that it was a great read, hard to put down and the sort of book I’d have preferred to be able to read in one sitting. This was my first book by Amy Waeschle but it absolutely will not be my last. Looking forward to her next book.
Cassidy Kincaid is the main character in this story. There are lots of twists and turns in this book. I got pulled right in and couldn’t put it down. Who are the good guys, who can she trust? So much all going on, lots of themes all well twisted together in a very entertaining story. Can’t wait to read the prequel and sequel. Hope this turns into a long series. I was given this ebook in exchange for my honest opinion. So glad I was!
Cassidy is a post-doctorate seismologist in Costa Rica. She has finished setting up her equipment and she’s taking a few days before returning to her empty home. Her fiance died in an accident several months before.
Then she receives a call from a step sister who asks her to try to find Reeve, a missing step brother. The search leads Cassidy into another world. While on her mission, Cassidy finds the opportunity to also pursue her love of surfing. There is a fair bit of detailing her surfing while traveling to find Reeve.
This is a well written story that takes you on a very twisty pathway. Cassidy has a lot of skill at multiple things that may save her life, and the lives of others. This is an interesting story and I’d like to read other books in the series.
I thought this was a great book, the author did a great job introducing the characters and keeping the story action paced. It grabbed me from the beginning to the end.
Loved the book, it kept you on the edge of your seat. Once again if you start the book it will be an all-nighter
This is an amazing story by an excellent author. The story begins with Cassidy on another trip. To Costa Rica this time. She is trying out equipment, that she has handmade, on the local volcano. She finally gets her equipment working and is ready to begin some much needed R&R. She has only just arrived when she receives a text from her stepsister. Her stepbrother is missing and she is being asked to help locate him. The story is complicated and thoroughly intriguing from here on end. The characters are wonderful as they bring the story to life. It’s spans an Arsenal of feelings and desire. You can only absorb the story by grabbing a copy and reading. Great great story!
A good mystery story.
Things I liked about the book:
1) It is realistic fiction.
2) It brings to light some of the practices of the heinous crime of human trafficking of which I was not aware.
3) After I finished reading the book, I find myself reflecting on the actions of a dysfunctional blended family. It gives me pause to reevaluate how I sometimes judge others without the benefit of knowing the full story of current events in their lives that influence their decisions.
4) It is part of a series.
5) It is a part of the Kindle Unlimited Library.
Things I did not like about the book (why I subtracted a star):
1) It is not a clean read.
a. Profanity – Use of GD and F Bombs dropped.
b. Sexual situations – I prefer “behind closed door” scenes.
Cassidy is in Costa Rica and receives a call from her step sister that her step brother, Reeve, is missing. Cassidy sets on a dangerous mission to find her step brother. She finds out some unexpected news about Reeve. Cassidy faces dangerous situations in her quest. Well written and keeps your interest.
This is one of those books that gave me a pause as to what rating to give it. For some reason, I had a hard time getting lost in the story and connecting with the characters. It seemed like Cassidy was very trusting of others while in a foreign country, especially when she was trying to find out what had happened to her brother and she put herself in some very dangerous situations without knowing who she should trust.
