5 star review Remnants (A Golden Beach Novel) by Kim Loraine
Audio Review:
Remnants is a second chance at love story by new to me author Kim Loraine and why I have not read her before I have no idea. The narration from Zachary Webber and Lacy Laurel was on point and added to my enjoyment of this story.
Ms. Loraine had me invested from the first to the last chapter with the story she wove of Fire Captain Carson Sullivan and the woman who broke his heart, his first and only love, Sloan Thomas.
The chemistry between Carson (Sully) and Sloan was intense and I found them both easy to relate too. A sweet, romantic story that had quite a few laugh out loud moments but was also at times an emotional roller coaster.
This was a story of love and regret, of lives that could so easily have been different but for the choices made so long ago.Can Sully and Sloan, forgive the mistakes of the past and the choices made and move forward with a future that they both deserve?
The chemistry between Carson (Sully) and Sloan was intense and I found them both easy to relate too. This was a great book to listen to and I look forward to reading/listening to more from Kim Lorraine.

Fifteen years ago Carson and Sloan broke up and went on with their lives, neither one of them ever finding true love again. But when Sloan moves back home and the sparks are still there can the two get past the anger and hurt from long ago? And what happens when the secret that Sloan had hidden from Carson shows up? Will there be more hatred or will they finally be able to let go of the past? With beautifully written characters and a heartwarming storyline of second chances this was a wonderful read. Once again Kim Loraine does not disappoint.
This is a good second chance love story that takes place in the present and flashes back to 15 years earlier throughout the book. I actually enjoyed the flashbacks, it helped clarify why each person was feeling a certain way when we got to see what happened from their point of view. This was actually my first book from the Golden Beach series, so I will definitely need to go back and read the others. There were a lot of couples in the book that intrigued me, and I think if I would have read the others and gotten to know Carson (Sully) better from all the previous books then I would have loved him so much more.
Carson and Sloan were high school sweethearts, and their relationship and struggles seemed so realistic for that age. When Sloan’s family moved away they never spoke to each other again which broke both their hearts. All the hurt and misunderstandings are so typical for the first love and I could see it all happen, there were so many things that happened to keep them from reconnecting. Sloan inherits her grandfather’s house after he passed and she decides to move back thinking Carson no longer lived there. The two are constantly running into each other and the battle between lust and hurt always seems to occur. Even though the relationship between them took center stage there was plenty of side drama to keep me interested in everything that was happening. The only downfall was the constant back and forth for Sloan and Carson, I could only take each of them changing their minds so many times before it became too much.
This review is for the audiobook version.
Sloan had me wanting to listen to her story again while I either sit in a bookstore or at the library. Even better if there was a beach close by. Her story was one that you’ll love to get lost in. And it doesn’t hurt that we have a couple of narrators that I love to listen to. They did a great job at bringing this story to life.
Sully seems to fit his name – he seems a little sullen. He lets us see that he has a soft spot but doesn’t want others to know. His past is a sore spot but it’s come back to bite him in the a**. I liked how Mr. Webber and Ms. Laurel told us the story as a duet. It makes the experience more pleasant. As if we are actually hearing the characters talk to each other. All that was missing was the smell-a-vision.
Ms. Loraine creates characters that the reader can relate to. Each scene moves seamlessly as the story unfolds. She also will make you sad – especially if you are taking care of an elderly parent. There’s no way you can’t feel sorry for those involved. Our author includes a mystery but doesn’t let it overtake everything else that’s going on. Listening to a rekindling romance was a treat – just needed to get my chocolate.
I found myself wanting to know more about The Golden Beach series. Good thing that I realized that this can be considered a standalone because i have a lot of catching up to do – other people I want to meet and get to know. After enjoying listening to this one, I don’t know that I would read the book. Having someone read to me added to my enjoyment and I think I’d like that to continue. And listening to Mr. Webber do a British accent – fan self.
I voluntarily reviewed an Audiobook copy of this book.
Remnants is the most recent addition to the Golden Beach series, which consists of a total of 8 interconnected books/novellas. I have not read any of the other books in this series, but that did not affect my enjoyment of this book at all. During the course of the book, there are several couples that make appearances. I could tell that they were featured in other books in this series, but I didn’t feel like I was missing out on anything by not having read the other books. Remnants is a second chance romance between two characters that have a 15 year history between them. Carson and Sloan were high school sweethearts who ended up breaking up after a stressful discovery and when Sloan’s family moved to another state. Fifteen years later, Sloan moves back to Golden Beach, Virginia and moves into her deceased grandfather’s home. Soon after she moves back, she has a run in with Carson. During the course of the book, the reader learns more about Sloan and Carson’s relationship in high school and all of the factors that contributed to their break-up. The reader also sees the two of them trying to adjust to the presence of the other in a relatively small town where they continuously run into each other, eventually they try to navigate a new relationship without letting their past issues affect their present. Eventually, their avoidance of the past results in big blow-up between Carson and Sloan. The author does a great job of gradually revealing all of the issues between Sloan and Carson and revealing the truth about what really happened fifteen years ago. I have to admit that I didn’t really expect the twists that occurred in this book. At times, I got frustrated with both Sloan and Carson because it seemed like it took them forever to really talk about what happened when they were teenagers. This book is written in 3rd person POV, from the perspective of both Sloan and Carson, in alternating sections. It also ends with a HEA and features an epilogue that takes place approximately 6 months after the last chapter. Overall, I really enjoyed following Sloan and Carson’s journey back to each other. I recommend this book to anyone that is looking for an angsty, second chance romance with realistic characters.
Audiobook version:
This was a fabulous 2nd chance romance. I loved the characters and their Chemistry. I found the characters very relatable and easy to fall in love with. I felt for them and their journey. Kim has this way of making you fall in love yet still ripping tears from you sooner or later. I loved it.
Narration was great. Lacy and Zachary gave a fabulous performance. They add so much feeling to their narrations. I was quite impressed with the editing and splicing of the narrations. you would never have guessed the narrators were not in the same room. This was a beautiful performance.

This is the perfect second chance love story. The pain these two went through because of a few different misunderstandings is heartbreaking to listen to. To see the hits keep coming even when you think you know what’s going on kept me on my toes the whole book. I wasn’t able to put this book down it was written and narrated so well. Definitely a must read!
I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed a second chance romance as much as I did this one. It was unpredictable, witty, emotional, and fast moving. I’m typically not a huge fan of dual narration, but I now realize it was because I was picking up the wrong audio. Lacy and Zach are an all-star pair! I enjoyed this so much, and I look forward to reading/listening to a lot more of Kim Loraine’s books!
Remnants
A Golden Beach Novel
By: Kim Loraine
Narrated by: Zachary Webber, Lacy Laurel
I have been waiting for Sully’s story, and finally get my chance to hear it! This second chance romance stole my heart. Carson and Sloan were high school sweethearts. Circumstances and poor communication tore them apart, and left both broken. Now that Sloan is back in Golden Beach, will she and Sully reconcile? I love their story. It’s not an easy journey for them to find their way back and their struggle tugged at my heart. Yes, I was frustrated at times, angry and caught up in their drama, but it was a . So much miscommunication and speculation took us on the emotional roller coaster and finished the series with a beautiful ending. I am so sad to see it end! Kim Loraine is one of my favorites, and this contemporary series is one I have thoroughly enjoyed.
The narration of this book is wonderful. With Zachary Webber as Sully, we get his pain and emotional turmoil so clearly and can feel his love shining through. Lacy Laurel gives us Sloan with her hesitancy and push-pull with Sully. I loved the way their voices compliment each other how the feels just come through. This is a great team to end the series with bringing the culmination of Golden Beach together and giving me all the feels and love.

I want a Sully of my own!!
Sully has been an anticipated story from The Golden Beach series, and Kim did not disappoint. Remnants had it all for me and I loved every page of it. The chemistry between these characters and all the twists and turns just kept me hooked til the end. It’s sad to think of this book being the end of the series, but Kim sure knew how to make an epic ending. Definitely a must read for me and worth above the five stars! Love the whole series and Sully and Sloan’s story is definitely a favorite.
Remnants is a sweet love story about two people who were meant to be together. Sloan and Sully were high school sweethearts who thought they would be together forever, but life got in the way. Fifteen years later they get a chance at love again. This story is full of heartache and heart and dreams of being young and in love again. Although it is sad that the Golden Beach series is over I look forward to reading whatever this author writes in the future. Amazing author and an amazing series…definitely get 5 stars!
This is the book 6 in the Golden Beach Series. This is a second chance love, and I absolutely loved Sully (Carson) and Sloan’s story. Both are complex characters. Their chemistry is really strong. How not to fall in love with Sully? Really! He’s a firefighter, handsome, strong and protective. Sloan is a strong and beautiful woman. The storyline goes back and forth, from the past to the present, and is filled with angst, unpredictable twists and turns and so much love! I was hooked from the first page to the end. Lacy Laurel and Zachary Webber did an amazing job with this duet narration. I received this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily written this review.
I have not read the previous books in the Golden Beach series but I really loved this! Carson aka Sully and Sloan were high school sweethearts and were separated for 15 years. This was full of angst, heartache, forgiveness and love! I loved Carson and Sloan! Loved this and will be checking out the previous books!
The back and forth between Sloan and Sully had me held captive for hours. I loved the chemistry I felt for the characters and the amount of love they had for each other. Fifteen years is a long time to wait to be reacquainted with your first love anx Kim Loraine had us wishing and hoping the entire time. Another amazing book by an amazing author!
