Reese is Book #1 in a six book series written by Lori Handeland and Linda Winstead Jones.
If you liked the Magnificent Seven, you’ll love the Rock Creek Six!
Six elite Confederate soldiers band together after the War Between the States, hiring out their guns to protect lawless towns. Violence is all they know, until they make their way to Rock Creek, Texas.
Mary McKendrick, a headstrong … McKendrick, a headstrong schoolteacher who wants nothing more than to find a home, takes charge when a band of ruffians attempts to destroy Rock Creek. With very few men left in town after the war, Mary travels to Dallas to hire Reese, the mysterious and reluctant leader of a band of guns for hire.
Reese is haunted by the war and all he did during it. The only constant in his life are the five men willing to come whenever he calls them. They will do anything for each other; they are all they have left.
Though Mary prides herself on managing everyone and anything, she can’t manage Reese or her feelings for him. Reese doesn’t believe he is worthy of loyalty and devotion; he certainly isn’t worthy of love. In Rock Creek, Mary McKendrick teaches him differently.

This series is one of the best ones I’ve enjoyed reading.
Loved this so much I bought all the other books in the series. Very well written and I couldn’t put them down.
Enjoyed the book. This was an easy read. Will read another by this author.
I enjoyed this book enough to get all the series. The characters were entertaining and the plot cute. Not something I would read again, but enjoyable.
Loved the way the characters said one thing, but thought quite the opposite )in italics). Would not have guessed the ending.
Read and enjoyed all the books in this series. Strong characters that are very likable. Recommend if you want to be entertained.
It took a long time to get to the point of view in the book
Strong female character who helps the damaged male to overcome his history.
I loved this book and really liked the caracters!!
It was OK but I wanted it to be done
Who doesn’t like big, dangerous and always in command? As soon as Reese caved to Mary the first time, I was hooked. The Magnificent Seven should have wound up like this.
Loved this book.
This definately was a page turner. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.
Really enjoyed the suspense to where this book was going. Kept you on the edge of your seat. Loved the historical references to the Civil War and the pain that was shared by the soldiers. Much like today’s veterans. It was tragic in parts due to the flashbacks Reese had, but loved the Happily Ever After results. Can’t wait to read Sullivan.
One of the best books/series I have ever read. I would enjoy more like it. I think it was well researched and kept my interest.
Great read I couldn’t put my tablet down as I had to keep reading to the end ! can’t wait to read the book about Nat
