Reese is Book #1 in a six book series written by Lori Handeland and Linda Winstead Jones.
If you liked the Magnificent Seven, you’ll love the Rock Creek Six!
Six elite Confederate soldiers band together after the War Between the States, hiring out their guns to protect lawless towns. Violence is all they know, until they make their way to Rock Creek, Texas.
Mary McKendrick, a headstrong … McKendrick, a headstrong schoolteacher who wants nothing more than to find a home, takes charge when a band of ruffians attempts to destroy Rock Creek. With very few men left in town after the war, Mary travels to Dallas to hire Reese, the mysterious and reluctant leader of a band of guns for hire.
Reese is haunted by the war and all he did during it. The only constant in his life are the five men willing to come whenever he calls them. They will do anything for each other; they are all they have left.
Though Mary prides herself on managing everyone and anything, she can’t manage Reese or her feelings for him. Reese doesn’t believe he is worthy of loyalty and devotion; he certainly isn’t worthy of love. In Rock Creek, Mary McKendrick teaches him differently.

I loved the characters! I they played off one another well.
Great book going to get 2nd one
Fun read with a good moral.
Loved this book so much I bought the whole series.
I enjoyed the story but for the life of me I couldn’t figure out what on earth the hero found appealing about the heroine. She was not at all likable. I did enjoy the other characters and the storyline though.
The whole series is great, it draws you into the story you want to find out what happens in the next book
Really liked this book! Characters were great and I loved the romance between Mary and Reece. Will read again often!
The somewhat reminded me of a movie, The Magnificent Seven, which I also thoroughly enjoyed.
This book is not very deep or educational, but checks all the boxes that most light romance novels do. The characters are likeable, the story keeps ip a fair pace, and you can finish it if you have a day off to read. Sweet & fluffy like cotton candy.
I’m going to read the entire series!
Enjoyed the characters, slightly reminiscent of a movie involving “seven” cowboys. I did enjoy reading.
fun read
Looking forward to reading the stories of the other 5!
This is almost a complete plagiarism of the magnificent 7 movie
Some of the lines in the book are the same as the movie.I don’t know how this book got past the content checkers.very disappointed.
An ok read, but I didn’t enjoy it well enough to continue the series.
I bought the whole 6 book series after reading this first one in the set, and loved every one of the books!
Bad history and kind of boring
I LOVED this book, it was so good! This is the first time I’ve come across this author and I can’t wait to read the next installment of her series!
A fun beach book that is easy to read but not important in the long run.
