USA TODAY BESTSELLER • The offseason is heating up for one Carolina Cold Fury heartbreaker who’s eager to make nice with the girl next door. No one plays like Reed Olson, whether it’s hockey season or not. After back-to-back NHL championships, he’s craving a little R&R. Reed leans to a specific type—blond, busty, and interested—and fortunately he has a little black book full of options. So … book full of options. So why is it he can’t stop dreaming about the new girl who just moved in next door? A certified brainiac, she seems to want nothing to do with the hard-bodied athlete.
Josie Ives desperately needs something her celebrity neighbor obviously doesn’t: solitude. Reed is everything she imagined—a little too good-looking, with a body that puts Greek gods to shame. But she didn’t expect he would also be funny and charming. Josie knows she’s the opposite of his type, and that’s fine with her. Still, the chemistry between them is undeniable. Their newfound friendship certainly has its benefits, but she’s starting to wonder if opposites really do attract.
Praise for Reed

Wow…. each book in this series just keeps getting better and better with each story. Reed and Josie and me so intrigued with their story and the build up of their relationship that I couldn’t put this book down. Josie was a perfect fit for Reed with her witty banter, independence and simple down to earth attitude; Reed showed Josie what she was missing in her day to day life….companionship, spontaneity and fun! These two will have you laughing throughout and leave you wanting more!!
Love the sports related storyline by Jack Burton.
What can I say about a hot hockey player and ER Doc finding love in this friends to lovers’ sports romance? I will tell you that it is a mighty fine read! There isn’t any hockey in this book as Reed is in the off season celebrating the Cold Fury’s Stanley Cup win and it didn’t bother me that it was the off season!
The characters are terrific! I absolutely loved Josie! She is a terrific heroine that challenged Reed. He needed it as he was stuck in a rut dating only the same type of women. Josie witnessed his string of “Barbies” come and go from his townhouse. How they met was an absolute riot. Reed was having very noisy sexy times with his flavor of the day and their activities were so noisy that they kept Josie awake. Working long hours in the ER, Josie needs her rest. She marches over to Reed’s door and to give him a piece of her mind. Thus, the interest in Josie begins for Reed, this spunky little brunette. As their paths cross, he finds he is intrigued with her. He thought she was brilliant, witty and a lot of fun to be around. It had nothing to do with her petite curvy body. Nope. He was usually into tall, stacked blondes. Not short, curvy brunettes. My, my how things change.
I loved the journey of their romance. The easiness of how they fell into friendship. Of course, there was that underlying electrical current. Once they made the turn into a relationship the sparks flew. Reed was a good balance for Josie. He was the spontaneous, fun guy that Josie needed. He brought excitement to her life. He was so sweet, he even bought a puzzle to put together at his house because Josie liked to do puzzles to help her unwind after work. I was so worried when Aiden came back and wanted to win Josie back. I was white knuckling my iPad there for a while.
Even though this is the tenth book in this series, I was captivated by this sweet and sexy story and once I started, I couldn’t put it down. The Cold Fury series never disappoints me, and it never gets old. I love each and everyone of these guys and the terrific women that are their perfect fit. I can’t wait for more Cold Fury!
Rating: 4.5 Stars
Reed Olson is not off to a good start with his neighbor. Josephine “Josie” Ives has a neighbor that you can’t help but laugh at. She likes to be entertained and I think you’ll find that you will be too. I found the story romantic, and it’s totally hot – and when you read a Sawyer Bennett book you will learn that you may need to keep a fan handy just in case.
Our author could have just developed the neighborly relationship but because she knows her readers so well she adds in a twist. And I am happily waiting for May to come so I can get my next hockey fix. But if I can’t, I’ll be happy in going and finding another of her books to read. Plus I could get some real life experience since hockey is still going on – at least until the beginning of April.
This is the 10th book in the Cold Fury Series and Reed will make you fall in love with him almost instantly. He is a playboy and enjoys a certain type but when a beautiful doctor knocks on his door late one night his type might just be different to what he thought. Reed and Josie’s story is a sweet romance that grows from a friendship to something more. Their journey to a relationship is funny, flirty, romantic and hot and steamy. Reed’s doubts and insecurities on what he can offer Josie cause drama but when you love someone sometimes setting them free feels like something you should do. Reed is a fantastic addition to the Cold Fury series and one I immensely enjoyed.
Fun loving Reed is charming and sexy and has this sweet, romantic side. His man-whoring ways with the “Barbies” takes a drastic turn when his neighbor makes a scene over the headboard knocking and screaming. funniest moment of the whole book!
The first half will half will keep you entertained. The second half will have your heart turning into a puddle of goo.
Reed is a great character with some depth but surprising insecurities. Josie is spirited and can totally hold her own! She takes no crap and is such a strong, intelligent woman. And that’s what it takes to put life in perspective and see a future outside of hockey and flings.
Another great Cold Fury story!! And Marek?! Color me intrigued!!
Holy hockey hotness! This book was magnificent! Sawyer Bennett delivers a story that’s both sexy & sweet sprinkled with humor and loaded with heart in Reed. I absolutely devoured this book! It had me sucked in right from the hilarious start and I didn’t put it down until the melt your heart ending. This book has it all!
I’m going to call dibs on Reed. Just sayin’. He’s the perfect book boyfriend. Funny, sweet, and omg sexy, I loved him! Everything about him was wonderful. The man is ridiculously charming. Josie may be his opposite on the outside, but these two were so perfectly matched. They were adorable together and I couldn’t get enough of them. I could read about these two over and over again. They’re story is just that great.
I didn’t read the blurb and I went blind… I honestly loved this book and the blurb can be very misleading.. the story itself keeps you entertain you will laugh a lot! You will get frustrated and you will get into the sexy scenes too! One of my favorites of this series for sure!
I really enjoyed this charming, friends to lovers romance. Reed Olson and ER Dr. Josie Ives are new neighbors. Their first meeting was a little rough but they soon became fast friends. Reed is looking for a summer of no cares and lots of women. That is until he meets Josie, who is feisty, funny and so not his type. But he can’t stop thinking about her and soon she turns his world upside down. Josie had her heart broken years ago, and with her busy hospital schedule, she isn’t looking for a relationship. But Reed shows her how to live in the moment, and have fun as he learns that just sitting with Josie, drinking beer and working on a puzzle, are the best times of his life. I really loved the witty banter, Reed’s sweet gestures, and their smoking hot chemistry. There are a few bumps in the road along the way to their HEA that kept me totally engaged in this fast paced, sexy romance. This is the first book in this series that I’ve read, and I definitely want to check out the first 9 books!
**Received ARC from NetGalley for a fair and honest review**
Reed is the 10th book in the Cold Fury Hockey series. This book can be read as a standalone, but IMO is better read in order. I blew right through this book, couldn’t put it down, loved it!! The books in this series just keep getting better and better. I absolutely loved Reed and Josie. I’m not giving any spoilers away, but I couldn’t stop laughing when they met! It was hilarious!!!! I really enjoyed the story, the characters, the chemistry between the characters. If you like hot and steamy, this book will not disappoint, not only that you get the just the right amount of humor, romance, strife with just a pinch of drama. This book takes off from the beginning and doesn’t stop, like a rollercoaster when it’s done, you aren’t ready and you feel off kilter. I loved seeing a strong female, who is a professional (emergency room doctor), not struggling, didn’t need someone to be in her life, but wanted it instead. I enjoyed the glimpse given into what will come in book 11, Marek. I really enjoy getting to see how other characters are doing and their significant others. My only gripe is I wanted more at the end, a little epilogue or something. I know I will read about the characters in other books, but I like that little bit extra. Definitely wasn’t ready for the book to end when it did. Overall the book is awesome, the stories truly do keep getting better. I hope this helps! Happy Reading!!!
My favorite men are back!!! I’m always waiting to return back to North Carolina to catch up with them, and Reed was definitely worth the wait!
Reed is enjoying the offseason, usually with a different girl every few days. He has a certain type, blonde, tall, and busty. One night in the midst of enjoying the company of one of his ladies, a woman shows up at his door…not one of his usual ones, but his neighbor, Josie. She is not happy! It seems his party in the bedroom is keeping her awake. She has just come off a long shift as an ER doctor. As she is telling him to put a muzzle on his “Screaming Barbie,” he is most definitely intrigued by her. This is the beginning of a casual friendship between the two, eating pizzas and working on her jigsaw puzzles. As they spend more time together, that line of friendship is blurred when they find it hard to keep their hands off of one another. Will their friends with benefits arrangement turn into something more permanent?
One of my favorite things about this book was the easy friendship between Reed and Josie. They are so comfortable with one another, and I just loved the banter between the two of them, especially when she names his blond women, Screaming Barbie, Carb Barbie, and Ditzy Barbie. He helps her get out of her planning mode, and gets her to be more spontaneous and have fun. She loves Reed for who he is as a man, not the celebrity hockey player.
As they take more steps toward becoming a couple, they begin to question their own self-worth. Josie thinks Reed has a type, and she is not the type of girl he is usually attracted to. Yet, Reed has never really dated, but Josie doesn’t make that connection. As she questions her physical beauty, he doesn’t think he is good enough or smart enough for her. She is so independent and strong, he isn’t sure she really needs him for anything. With all their accomplishments, her an ER doctor and him a talented, successful hockey player, they have the same issues all of us do. Sawyer Bennett is a master at making her characters realistic with normal human flaws that her readers can identify with.
There are some surprises in the book, and they made the book even better. Bennett has again done a phenomenal job of whetting our appetite for the next book which will be about Marek. I can’t wait to see the story he has in store for us. So, for now, I will tell my favorite hockey players and the women they love good-bye until I see them again!
***Read and Reviewed for Devilishly Delicious Book Reviews***
4.5 stars–REED is the tenth instalment in Sawyer Bennett’s contemporary, adult COLD FURY HOCKEY sport, romance series focusing on the members of the professional hockey team the Carolina Cold Fury. This is Carolina Cold Fury hockey player Reed Olson, and ER physician Josie Ives’ story line. REED can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.
Told from dual first person points of view (Josie and Reed) REED is an opposites attract/friends to lovers story line that follows the building relationship between ER physician Josie Ives, and hockey player Reed Olson. Following their second Stanley Cup win the members of the Cold Fury hockey team are due for some R&R, and Reed Olson takes relaxation to the max with a series of one-night stands that are a little too loud for his neighbor’s enjoyment. Enter ER physician Josie Ives, and the woman with whom Reed will fall in love. What ensues is the friends to lovers relationship between Josie and Reed, and the potential fall out as Reed believes Josie can do much better than a high-school educated hockey player with too much time on his hands.
Reed Olson is a bit of a manwh*re whose late night antics are fodder for his friends and the new neighbour next door but something about Josie Ives draws Reed like a moth to a flame that he is willing to explore one way or another. A slow start to their friendship including picture puzzles, picnics, pizza and beer finds Josie falling for Reed Olson, and thinking about giving love a second chance.
The secondary and supporting characters include Reed’s fellow teammates Marek Fabritis and Tanner Craig, as well as the return of Alex and Sutton, and Garrett and Olivia. The camaraderie between teammates is humorous and fun. We are introduced fellow ER physicians Kathy Krantz, Kevin Mills and Josie’s ex boyfriend Dr. Aiden McCune.
REED is a story of friendship, romance, fun and adventure. There are no overt conflicts or over the top dramas that threaten to destroy Reed and Josie’s building relationship except Reed’s lack of confidence as it pertains to falling in love with a woman he believes to be out of his league- their differences may be too large for our hero to overcome. Josie is a strong, feisty female heroine who knows what she wants; Reed is successful hockey player who is willing to take a chance for something more. It is the off-season therefore hockey takes a backseat to the relationship. The premise is sweet and sexy; the romance is passionate and seductive; the characters are energetic and real. REED is a heart warming and uplifting story.
I loved this so much! It was fun and sweet and left me incredibly happy. It was a wonderful friends to lovers story and an excellent addition to the Cold Fury series.
I think I say this after every book in this series, but my GOSH how I love these Cold Fury men. And Reed Olson is an easy hero to love. You will find no dark, broody hero here. Instead prepare yourself for a happy-go-lucky, energetic, hilarious, and super fun hero that I couldn’t get enough of.
I love a good friends-to-lovers romance, and this one hit all my sweet spots. It’s a relatively short story, but i didn’t feel like anything transitioned too quickly. I bought into the sparky little friendship that formed between Josie and Reed, and the easy – natural way it turned into something more. The chemistry between these two was completely believable and completely addictive. They were simply a delight to fall in love with!
One of my favorite things about these stories is that things don’t always play out in a predictable way. There were some secondary storylines that I expected to go one way, and Ms. Bennett took it in a different direction. That was refreshing. I loved that both characters behaved like grown ups, even while sorting through some confusing feelings and conflict. The conflict, by the way, is pretty short lived and low on angst. I might have liked a little more from them in the end. But overall, I loved every minute of their sweet and swoony love story.
We’re given a pretty hefty peek inside what’s to come in Marek and, ohmygosh, YES. This series is the gift that keeps on giving and even ten books in, I have my greedy little grabby hands out for more!
Oh. My. God…..I Love Reed!!! This book is a Neighbors-to-Friends-to-Lovers story that was the BEST!! Josie is next-door neighbors with Reed. In the middle of the night, as Reed is going at it with yet another “Blond Barbie” (*snort*), Josie bangs on his door to get his girl to stop “shrieking” so she can get some sleep. Josie is an ER Doc who just came off a long shift & just wants to sleep. Reed doesn’t know what to make of Josie who’s short, curvey & a brunette, and not his normal type. He’s intrigued, though, and sincerely apologizes. From there on, they form an unlikely friendship, which is easy & fun with no pressure. As time goes on, feelings change, doubts creep in & someone from Josie’s past makes Reed feel like he isn’t good enough for her.
This book had me GLUED, laughing & wanting more! I loved both Reed & Josie & think their story’s perfect!!
You won’t be disappointed reading, “Reed!!”
I did’t think it was possible but we have another GREAT one! Reed Olson is a hockey player who plans to spend his summer playing after winning the Stanley Cup but the woman he has in his bed is not doing it for him and the screaming is getting on his nerves. Luckily the doorbell rings and his neighbor complains about “Screaming Barbie” and, oh my, the neighbor is a surprise. She is a petite, curvy brunette (not usually his type) but she is sleepy eyed and gorgeous. Josie Ives is an Emergency Room doctor and she is an independent and self sufficient woman who despite the circumstances is charmed by her neighbor. What starts out as causal friends quickly turns to something so much more and it was so much fun to watch it develop. There were cameo appearances of other Cold Fury players and significant others but the kicker was when Josie’s lost love came back. Will they last or not? Can friends turned lovers really survive?
This one could be read as a standalone but really why would you want to, this is such a great series. You could read any of them as a standalone but they are all great!
Reed is the tenth book in the Cold Fury Hockey Series. Like the others it is a standalone and can be read separately or out of order. I’ve been reading these stories in no particular order and don’t feel like I’m missing out on anything.
Cold Fury hockey player Reed Olson enjoys his off season with a revolving door of summer fling Barbies until his sexy and smart neighbor Josie Ives comes knocking at the door. They start up a great friendship that begins to feel like more.
“A sudden wave of jubilation—a lightness of heart—sweeps through me. She’s so right. What could possibly be wrong about starting out as friends and going to lovers?”
I absolutely adored Reed! He was a thoughtful and caring hero to swoon over! This is a fun and flirty friends to lovers story but so much more. Lots of heat and emotion.
4.5 Stars!!
Reed was a wonderful addition to the Cold Fury Hockey Series and as with the other books in the series it can be read as a standalone, but, if you’re like me you’ll want to read them all.
I LOVE a good strong female heroine and that is what we have in Josie, she is first introduced to us when she is knocking on her neighbors door, Reed, to complain that his headboard knocking is keeping me awake and then proceeds to call his bed-mate Barbie, as in the Barbie doll because that’s what she looked like….SO FUNNY!! I knew I was going to like Josie just from that but then she became more, she’s an ER Doctor so you know she’s smart and she has a great sense of humor, although she was a bit insecure at times she had reason to.
Reed, now this is a man with a type, yes he liked his women to look like Barbie, blond with a big rack and legs that went on for days, and he preferred them just about as intelligent as one…sorry Barbie, but the women he was sleeping with were really airheads!
The friendship between Reed and Josie was instant but it did take them awhile to build up to friends with benefits which I appreciated because it felt natural. We get a peek into what is going on with some of the men of Cold Fury as the Stanley Cup makes its rounds to each team member, we also get a peek into the next book which is Marek’s second-chance-at-love story with one very heavy bomb that has been dropped when Reed and Marek go to stop a wedding.
Sawyer Bennett has done it again with Reed, she has truly made an entire hockey team filled with men worth getting to know. Each one of these stories have been great reads. I highly recommend not only Reed but the entire series. Happy Reading!!!

I’m fairly new to Sawyer in that I only really started reading her books in the last year or so. Everything I have read I have enjoyed, and this was my first book in the Cold Fury Hockey series.
What a book to start with. Half way through, I logged into my GR and added all the other books to my TBR.
I LOVED Reed. What an adorable man. He’s not a douche, he’s just a damn sexy man who shows his true self when he starts seeing Josie.
I love the way they meet, and the hilarious nicknames Josie comes up with. Even though this isn’t a typical friends to lovers story, it still kind of is friends to lovers in its own way, and it works so well. There’s no insta love which was awesome. It all flowed really well and moved at the right pace.
I loved Josie as well, and I love how she and Reed both respect what the other does for a living, even though they’re worlds apart. I liked getting glimpses of some ofter Fury players, and I sure can’t wait to read the next book, which I think is about Marek.
I sped through this in less than 24 hours, and I highly recommend it. Its a nice and easy read and for the most part its really light hearted too. Looking forward to reading more of these books!
Wow…. who would have thought 10 books into the Cold Fury Hockey Series we would still be clambering for more and who would have thought Sawyer Bennett would still be giving us 5 Stars reads…well I would because I really believe she is one very talented author who gives us her all with every book she releases and Reed is no different it’s a brilliant read. Book ten is Reed Olson and Josie Ives story and it really is a case of opposites attract but can they get past the many differences they seem to have, he is a player on the ice and off the ice, he likes to have fun with blondes who don’t have too much to say and Josie is the girl next door who has to put up with the wallbanging and screaming barbies, she is the complete opposite to his normal girl, she is smart, sassy and is a brunette. One night after finishing her shift as a emergency room doctor the wallbanging gets too much so at 1am she knocks on Reed’s door to confront him, instant attraction or instant lust all Reed knows is he needs to get to know more about his cute neighbor……
This book starts off with a very funny first chapter moves onto a friends to lovers romance and finally a HEA. I loved the journey Sawyer Bennett took us on as Reed and Josie got to know each other and finally fell in love, did Josie tame the player or was that man always hiding under the surface just waiting for the perfect mate. A couple that I hope appear in future books because I really want to know where life takes the couple I loved from the first page of this great book.
