This is a slow burn holiday romance about two broken people with one goal—to survive. Yoshiro escaped a career of crime with the mafia, after they killed his family. For five years, he’s dropped out of life. All he wants this Christmas is to be left alone. Then, Ebony and her kids accidentally crash onto his property during a snowstorm. For three years, they’ve been running from her husband—who’s … husband—who’s been more monster than man.
The storm picks up. They are forced to remain with Yoshiro until it dies down. And the threat of Ebony’s monster remains, lurking within the shadows and threatening her safety. But Yoshiro knows all about death and blood. Her monster doesn’t scare him. What has him terrified is that heartwarming feeling sparking between them. The more time Yoshiro spends with Ebony, the more she becomes a Christmas present that he’s dying to open. Too bad, she’s promised herself that she will never let another man in her or her children’s life again.
Yet, sometimes the best Christmas presents come from a bullet. Every so often a good Christmas miracle is a cut-up body to end a nightmare. And even better, at just the right moment two lonely people can find light in their darkened souls and open their hearts to a new romance.
REDEMPTION is a standalone AmBw romance with an HEA and no cliffhangers. This book also contains violence, strong language, naughty illustrations, and graphic sexual scenes.

What can I say but that I loved it. The authenticity brought to these characters was so inviting that any reader couldn’t help but to be invested in this well told adventure of love, perseverance, and the lesson of always paying kindness forward no matter what.
In true Kenya Wright style, she brings us a story that keeps you on your toes all while pulling at your heart strings. The characters in this story are lovable and believable…you wish they were real. This book was a joy to read. The illustrations included in the book add a little extra to your reading experience. If you love Kenya Wright’s style and you haven’t read this book, you are missing out!
I normally dont do romance books however, this story was incredibly refreshing! Written by a black woman, the 2 main characters Ebony and Yoshiro are typically two ethic people that you dont normally see in a staring role in the romance genre in movies or literature. Ebony is running from her abusive husband with her 3 kids and Yoshiro sits in solitude battling his own demons and they both meet as a chance encounter.
Their relationships progresses while fast in an almost Disney princess time frame but it works. Yoshiro who is equally the Japanese equalizer strives to protect Ebony and her kids but hunt down her ex-husband and take actions and justice into his own hands. While along the way unintentionally and unconsciously finding redemption himself.
This story is good because while i forgot is my be a “Christmas novel” I kept forgetting about that in the story. its grounded in real life and reality with real life problems and not cookie cutter Hallmark Christmas movie plot drama. And the 2 main characters bond over trauma not a love at first sight but lets deny it create tensions and build drama. Like Hallmark Christmas movies’ lol.

STORY:
The storyline was likable, and I appreciated listening to Ebony’s journey and the way her character evolved. The show stealer are the kids and the second, Yoshiro. I really enjoyed his character and the way he connected with the family. The story content is dark but very much enjoyable.
So, I did not realize this was a slow burn. I know it’s the first sentence in the blurb. However, my sister recommended this book and I got it no questions ask. I was half-and-half with how the romance played out. If you take away the romance from the story, really like it. If you include the romance, I wish there was more throughout, as I got frustrated a lot with the teasing of will they won’t they. This is more a me thing when it comes to some slow burns. It has to be just right. Nevertheless, towards the end, I love their love.
Small detailed, I wanted to know if Yoshiro ever read that new book from Ebony. She was writing about everything that was taking place, and I was curious about that.
SEXUAL CHEMISTRY:
Sex scenes were satisfactory. I enjoyed their connection and most of the build up at times.
SECONDARY CHARACTERS:
Those three kids were such joy. I don’t think the story would be the same if she did not have those kids.
OVERALL:
Likable read/audio and it engages you from start to end.
TRIGGERS: domestic abuse (verbal and physical), violence and somewhat graphic killing.
****I don’t equate these stories to real life. It’s about personal taste and what you would or want to tolerate with the books you read. I know we all have different opinions and preferences with what we read. I based my book reviews on my preferences and what I like, and while these preferences may not be the same for others, I hope this review was still helpful.
