Jane Austen knew how to write a romance story. Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennett seemed the complete opposite of each other. And yet their story shows why opposites attract. I like the aristocratic, English countryside setting of this book. I also like this period when manners and class were important to society. The ending was predictable but nevertheless satisfying.

While Pride and Prejudice is not my all time favorite Jane Austen novel, it is definitely second. No contest. It is a true original- from the opening sentence to the end- the subtle commentary on all things in Austen’s time has never been bettered by any other writer. Ever. And yes, I meant to be redundant.

Jane Austen was and is a master of romance fiction. Her characters, witty style and overall love story really inspire the heart and mind. Many call Pride and Prejudice the original modern romance, with Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth, in the course of falling in love, find not only each other but also making each other better people. I highly recommend both reading and listening to the audiobook of this novel.

Pride & Prejudice remains my all-time favorite novel. Jane Austen’s masterpiece comedy of manners is as delightful today as it was 200 years ago. Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy are sheer perfection, and their clumsy romance is so much fun to observe. Of course the writing style is reserved by today’s standards, but I think that just adds to the charm of this classic.

Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austen has one of the most succinct opening lines I have ever read. It sums up concisely the essence of the whole story. We travel back in time with the author who delights us with her portrayal of human nature and we learn that people don’t change much over the course of time.
