This book is one of the most incredible novels i’ve ever read in my life. This novel is about a women of class who has empathy, strength and kindness. She’s not like the other women in her circle. Miss. Elizabeth doesn’t care about diamonds she cares about books. She meets a rude man who changes her life in a pleasant way and weird way.

I read the book after to seeing every movie made from it, including at least 2 mini series. It dawned on me that I knew the words to many of the scenes but had never read the book. It is a timeless book written in the days when women had very few options and almost no rights, yet Austen’s writing shines.

Yes, I admit it. I’m a romance writer who had never read Pride and Prejudice, though I’d seen the BBC miniseries and loved it. I’d been scarred in high school by being forced to read classics I didn’t enjoy and was afraid to pick up a classic as an adult. I shouldn’t have been worried. This was such a wonderful read and a page-turner. I finished it within 24 hours and I’m so glad I finally picked it up.

Love. Just that. Jane Austen made me read almost all of her other published books just because of this one. Elizabeth and Darcy forever!

This was my first Jane Austen, believe it or not. I read it because my 16 year old granddaughter had requested a few Austen novels for Christmas along with some by Twain, Dickens, or any of the Bronte sisters. I wondered if they weren’t a bit too mature for her, but her mom (my daughter) assured me she’d been reading them for a while. She’s an extremely smart young lady! She read the books I gave her that year and requested more the following year:) We discussed Pride and Prejudice in detail, and I could hear how thoroughly she loved the story!!! What a joy to share that with her:)

This is a classic for a reason! Yes, it is a wonderful love story but it’s so much more too. It’s so sharp and witty! You don’t expect to laugh when you pick it up but you do!

Listened on audiobook read by Rosamund Pike. It was so delightful and engaging. Love how it wrapped up so neatly in the end. Romantic and entertaining.

The original romantic comedy, and one that has been emulated but never surpassed!
Wonderfully drawn characters, insightful observations of human behavior, and very, very dry humor throughout.
Favorite character? The Reverend Mr. Collins because he has been so clearly drawn through his actions and speech that he makes every reader’s skin crawl. No one would want to share space with him, however large.
