This is my all time favorite book! I’ve read it so many times that I’ve lost count. The characters are all so well rounded (as her characters usually are) so it makes it the story much easier to relate to. It is easy to see why this novel is such a classic.

This is the original boy meets girl, boy and girl hate, boy and girl fall in love story and it is my favorite. Elizabeth Bennett is the independent, educated, witty and funny woman you would be happy to see in a 21st century novel. The nuanced sense of humor and her flagrant disregard for societal expectations of woman is inspiring and makes you really root for her. As for Mr. Darcy, he gradually becomes the man that you the reader are secretly in love with even though you kind of hate him for it.
Also it was written by a woman when women weren’t allowed to write books and she wrote it under a woman’s name not a man’s pen name. So right on, Austen

I enjoy the history of the story. Jane took a lot of liberty for the time period and managed to tell a great tale.

Many critics hold this book up as being the original romance novel, the one on which every single subsequent work in the genre is based. I haven’t read everything out there, but I’ve read a bunch and completely agree. From its killer first line (“It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.), to its perfect HEA, it does every little thing right – clever heroine, dashing hero, humorous encounters, and finally, true love. Three cheers!

I love Jane Austen. This book is a solid rereadable book. I love the characters and setting. Read it once annotated and get some history of the time and you will not read it the same again.

No wonder I choose never to read book.d this book before. Insipid writing, characters you hate. Nothing to make me ever pick up another one of her books

This has to be one of my all-time favourite romantic novels. It doesn’t seem to age to me and even though those times are long past, it still resonates a charm whilst introducing an independence in women that was way ahead of its time.

I have always the cinematic portrayal of this movie. Austin is a hard read because of the language of the time and the chattiness but you do get a better sense of the characters in the book that otherwise tend to be one dimensional in cinema.

First read this at age 14 and loved it. I’ve read it many, many times since then. Of course, I got more out of it when I was older. Jane Austen was the original – so many books and movies follow the same basic plot without all the wonderful characters and details. This is a must read!

It’s Jane Austen! She’s the master of witty, intelligent satire. Everyone should read this book!
