You can never quite differentiate between the pride and prejudice. The book makes you see the true side of love with arrogance and ” handsome”

Ahhh, Jane Austin. A lovely read when you are sipping tea and sitting on the veranda on a quiet summer afternoon. Obviously an old fashioned romance story but the wit and humor still resonates even after all these years.

I decided to do some serious reading and read Pride and Prejudice. The book was penned by Jane Austen in the early 1800s, and focuses on the importance of women not only getting married, but marrying wealthy men. A lot of fuss is made about class, wealth, social standing and manners. All the dialogue seems to be about these concepts to the point of absurdity, which adds humour to the story. I can see why she was ahead of her time.

I read this book when I was in my early teens and decided to revisit it as part of my plan to read/reread some classics. Loved it then, but loved it more now. Austen is a wonderful writer. The characters were interesting and the themes were very relevant even today. Who doesn’t love to hate Mr Darcy?
I’m glad to become reacquainted with Jane’s writing.

This is the first time in my reading life that I have ever picked up or even attempted to read a classic such as Pride and Prejudice. The expectation was high as it has been a long standing favorite in the literary world. I knew going in that I would struggle with comprehending the use of language, but it didn’t deter me from reading it.
I will say this, I did enjoy this novel, but found at times I just simply lost interest. My lack of interest didn’t stem from the use of language, but more so to to with the fact that, that some scenes I simply found unnecessary. There were time that I found it over-written (if that makes sense) and I simply got bored.
I will say I did enjoy Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy’s story. I loved watching as their story unfold, from a love that was never going to happen, to a love that simply flourished.
I also liked Jane and Mr. Bingley’s story.
Overall I enjoyed this read, but not sure how in this day and age it should fit into a school curriculum. I could almost conclude that while it’s a long standing classic, more up to date reads should be implemented to keep young adults interested in reading.
A classic, with wonderful characters!
