Before Nineteen Minutes, The Tenth Circle, and Perfect Match there was Plain Truth: “an absorbing and affecting novel” (Entertainment Weekly) about life in a bucolic setting that is anything but simple.
Not one to shy away from the tough issues that makes her novels so compelling, Jodi Picoult’s recent bestsellers tackled themes from sexual abuse to stem cell research to intense parent-child … cell research to intense parent-child relationships. Her eager fans have come to expect hard-hitting topics, and Picoult never disappoints.
In Plain Truth, a shocking murder shatters the picturesque calm of Pennsylvania’s Amish country — and tests the heart and soul of the lawyer who steps in to defend the young woman at the center of the storm.…
Moving seamlessly from psychological drama to courtroom suspense, Plain Truth is a triumph of contemporary storytelling. Jodi Picoult presents a fascinating portrait of Amish life rarely witnessed by those outside the faith — and discovers a place where circumstances are not always what they seem, where love meets lies, and where relationships grow so strong they can transcend death.

This book is thought provoking, captivating and thoroughly enjoyable.. great story that was well researched that ended with a twist.
Definitely not what I thought. But it kept me intrigued
Jodi Picoult is always a great author and this book from 2000 was a gem that I found recently. The plot kept me in suspense and the details of the Amish culture made me feel like I was right there in Lancaster County. Great read!!
Before I begin reviewing this seventh novel by Jodi Picoult, I would like to say how much I enjoyed the narration of this book. Christina Moore and Suzanne Toren were pitch perfect in conveying the way Americans normally speak in the present day (hard-boiled and harsh) with the way that the Amish speak (slow, sweet and German-accented.) This was an interesting book. Having read “My Sister’s Keeper” (and loving it), I was excited to get into another Jodi Picoult book (and to get away from Jane Eyre for awhile).
I was somewhat surprised at the language, but otherwise, the book was really good.
This is the story of Katie, an Amish girl who wakes up one morning and …
Anything written by this author leaves readers thinking about the books controversial issue for days afterwards. Can an Amish/Plain person kill or is not in their nature? That is the question of this book and the lawyer who defends a young girl who gives birth and then the baby is found dead. Enjoyable read one I could not put down until the end.
wonderful story, couldn’t put it down.
This book had me grip from the first few paragraphs. The detail and real life elements of the story is what makes these books so amazing. Being given a glimpse into worlds unknown to most and the connection created for all of the very different characters is true talent. I couldn’t read it fast enough.
I always learn something from Jodi’s books. She researches her subjects well. Then with the knowledge she weaves a great story.
Classic Picoult
Loved this book!
Any of Jodi Picoult’s books are worth the read. Well researched and written.
One of my all time favorites
This was a fascinating read. I find the life of the Amish very interesting and this fed right into it. Their life looks so bucolic but like everything in life, the surface is never what it seems!
I read this in 2 days, couldn’t put it down, real shocker ending.
Another book from one of my favorite authors. I get lost & entranced in the story & the characters.
I loved it
This book didn’t disappoint. I would recommend it to anybody who enjoys a good book!
I especially enjoyed the cultural conflict in th story.
One of the first books by Jodi Picoult that I read, and one that hooked me! Her classic style that uses multi-viewpoint, and does it well.
Jodi is my comfort food when I need to curl up with a cup of tea and read the afternoon away and crawl into the skin of some characters, and this book is good for that.
