They came to earth—Pestilence, War, Famine, Death—four horsemen riding their screaming steeds, racing to the corners of the world. Four horsemen with the power to destroy all of humanity. They came to earth, and they came to end us all. When Pestilence comes for Sara Burn’s town, one thing is certain: everyone she knows and loves is marked for death. Unless, of course, the angelic-looking … angelic-looking horseman is stopped, which is exactly what Sara has in mind when she shoots the unholy beast off his steed.
Too bad no one told her Pestilence can’t be killed.
Now the horseman, very much alive and very pissed off, has taken her prisoner, and he’s eager to make her suffer. Only, the longer she’s with him, the more uncertain she is about his true feelings towards her … and hers towards him.
And now, well, Sara might still be able to save the world, but in order to do so, she’ll have to sacrifice her heart in the process.

This was an amazing book. It took me a couple of days to process how I felt about it. There are times when I hate both Sara and Pestilence, and then times when I hate one or the other.
I felt sorry for Pestilence a lot of the time. He just seemed so lost and almost child-like sometimes. He just didn’t get humanity, and he really just had to keep doing what he was doing, no matter what.
I thought that Sara was a really brave person to sacrifice herself the way that she did. I’m not sure I could’ve done what she did, in any way, shape, or form. She was pretty hardcore. Of course she didn’t like it, but still.
Pestilence was really completely unlikable at the beginning, and it took some doing in order to redeem him.
I can’t wait for War.
This was wonderful! Dark. Thought provoking. Brave. Poetic. And unique, too. It’s rare for me to get deeply snagged by a story, but Pestilence lodged his arrows under my skin and kept me reading into stupid-o’clock in the morning. And then sighing with fuzzy-pleasure the next day.
Stars till the end of days for this one!! Loved it.
This is a first read for my by this author. Laura has popped up quite a few times in numerous groups I’m in. I’m so glad I really enjoyed this one. I only wished there was more world building or maybe more of a background of the horsemen, maybe it will happen in upcoming books. I read the premise for War and I can’t wait, at least I have Laura’s backlist to keep me occupied lol.
This book was everything I don’t usually read, but I was drawn in by the storytelling and characters on page one! I read it in one sitting (into the wee hours of the night) because I needed to know what would happen. Brava! Can’t wait for the next story – War!
I loved this!!! Who says love can’t change the person you are even if you are immortal and destined to kill all humans. This story is such a range of emotions. Despite how attractive Pestilence is, he is death and that is hard to like!! I enjoyed and could relate to the feelings Sara has as she fights her changing emotion toward him and mankind as a whole. There are some amazing steamy parts too and I cried!! Overall, great read!!!
Wow
You could cut the sexual tension in this book with a knife. I couldn’t put it down. I loved the relationship between Sara and Pestilence. Absolutely fabulous.
This book shredded me. I can’t wait for book #2.
WOW! I didn’t know what to expect from this book but I LOVED IT!!! I cannot wait for War.
What happens when the Four Horsemen come to Earth?
What happens when Pestilence, spreader of plague, comes back?
You know it’s nothing good.
Pestilence was recommended by an author friend. She is never wrong in her saying a book is read-worthy.
She wasn’t wrong this time, either.
Pestilence is roaming the earth, sickening the masses, with firefighter Sara in tow. I couldn’t stop reading, wanting to see how it ended after the world ended.
This book had so much in it- heartbreak, humor, a horse named Trixie Skillz, violence, and goodness. I cannot wait for War.
It was the title and the cover that pulled me in and from reading the blurb I just knew it would be something I would enjoy. I was not wrong. One scene actually had me laugh out loud. It’s quite rare I read a book that gets me gripped. I just wanted to know what would happen next.
I’m a big fan of enemies to lovers, so this book was right up my alley.
4. 5 stars
I had this book on my kindle for a while before I picked it up. It actually took a text from my sister, saying I HAD TO READ IT, that I finally started it!!! And boy am I glad she did because this book was awesome and blew my mind.
It started with Sara, a strong, gritty and tenacious heroine to brutally fight for her survival in a way I never saw any other heroine fight for. She was ruthless with Pestilence. And I loved her for it. There were time when I was sitting in my bed, with my jaw dropping open in utter shock. I couldn’t believe what I was reading.
THIS!!! Right there is the best feeling ever!!!
I loved the plot, enjoyed the interactions between Sara and Pestilence and was thoroughly enthralled by the entire story. I could picture it clearly in my mind, and I relished how different and unique the novel felt.
Even though it was a post apocalyptic genre, the author managed to put her own spin to it. It also helped that I don’t often read these kind of novels, so it felt fresh and captivating. A great change of pace for me. I’ve struggled with several book slumps this year, and changing up my reading genres has helped immensely.
So for anyone that loves fantasy this book should be a MUST READ!!!
It had all the elements I enjoy in a great fantasy novel. Strong characters, a distinctive voice, and a plot that kept me glued to the pages. In my eyes this book was a success and I can’t wait to read the next one.
Hunky, stubborn immortal. Spunky, kick-ass mortal. My favorite combination in a paranormal romance. Hands down one of my favorites reads for 2018.
This is such a dark story, allowing a deep dive into all the abhorrent bits of human nature, only to remind you of the glorious parts as well. If ever there was redemption in humanity, it is through love. I was absolutely enthralled by Pestilence, and cannot wait for the release of War.
Love it! Can’t wait for the next book!
It’s been a long time since I absolutely fell in love with a book. This was one of those times. I am both surprised, awed and pleasantly impressed with this story, characters, conflict and last but definitely not least; the romance. All I want to do is read the book all over again. Or, even better; read the next one in the series.
I admit I had my doubts starting to read, mainly because the whole bible’s horsemen theme seemed a bit juvenile and simply too Christian (nothing against the religion, just have had bad experiences with books preaching too much of religious laws that it becomes annoyingly corny). The plot did however completely take me of guard. Sure, there were dialogues of god and human sins, but it wasn’t any direct religious message turned towards the readers. And no preaching of good and bad in the book thrown in my face. It was just a girl fighting for herself and human kind Verses an entity of a huge douche of a god ignorant of humanity. The conflict and drama this put forth was both addictive and heartbreaking. I don’t think I ever cried over minor characters tragedies before. This book made it happen. Nor have I been so moved over the main character’s struggle of being surrounded by suffering and at the same time fight against her feelings over the monster creating said suffering. The book was complex as well as beautifully tragic.
Of course, I do have to mention the huge elephant in the room. Or rather elephants. Because as I was enjoying the drama, romance and adventure there were some plot holes and minor flaws I noticed. The biggest one was “where the hell was the government and military in all of this? In any country?” (and why was only America and Canada affected or mentioned if this was “the end of the world”?). Aren’t the military supposed to fight this with everything they got? Also, wouldn’t it then be common knowledge that Pestilence can’t be killed? I feel like there would be these huge strategies and motions from both the military and government of at least entrapping him. But absolutely nothing. He just rides on with only some fights from desperate commoners with guns.
The next one is the fact that some obvious things are left unspoken and unacknowledged. As much as I loved the romance I just couldn’t help but notice how similar it was to Stockholm syndrome. I mean, she started of as his prisoner which he tortured both physically and mentally and nearly killed. He then has this turnaround where he is being considerate, compassionate, saving and caring. To which she starts to fall for him as he does for her. I’m not an expert on the subject exactly, but isn’t that how Stockholm syndrome works? Despite that however, I really liked their growing love and that unnerving thought of any syndrome was easy to forget.
Their relationship was unique to begin with, considering how dark it started of. Plus I really fell for their personalities and how well they worked together. I especially liked Pestilence ignorance of humanity and old fashioned side. In a strange way it made him very endearing. Especially since it played well with Sara’s more human and funny side. Seeing them go from suffering and hate to this strong love was an amazing toe curling journey. Their shifting and unpredictable relationship imprisoned me in the book and I just couldn’t stop reading until the last page. Even now I’m not done reading. Especially with such a suspenseful cliffhanger!
Every now and then you read a book that draws you in line by line and possesses your soul until you hang on every word, wondering where the story is possibly headed. Laura Thalassa took a dark and twisty story and shaped it into something magical. Pestilence was that kind of book for me. I literally could not put my ipad down, reading far into the night and far longer than I should. The hero and heroine were fascinating, their hatred and love for one another a slow, torturous burn until the end. Enemies to lovers is my favorite trope and this book served it up in a way I’ve seen few other books do well. It was a wild roller coaster ride — a slow climb to the top, an exhilarating fall, and continual ups and downs and twists and turns throughout until you are filled with adrenaline and exhilaration at the end. I loved it, and I loved the biblical slant to the story, too. I finished reading this book a week ago, and I’m still thinking about the characters, which means this book goes on my all time favorite shelf. Great work Laura Thalassa! Can’t wait to read all the other books in this series.
This is one of the best books I read this year so far. I loved every minute of it.
The story had me so enthralled and it was amazing to watch the character growth and how Pestilence and Sara change each other, how they overcome their own prejudice and find in each other something completely unexpected.
I absolutely loved both characters. Sara is as badass as they come and still very human and flawed.
Pestilence is fascinating. I can’t wait for War.
I listed to the audiobook and the narrator is amazing.
I swear if everyone read this book, the world would be a better place <3
This book had me turning pages so fast! Pestilence is paranormal romance at its best. Being the first Horseman, Pestilence just wants to do his job. But there’s just one small thing..or one stubborn, mouthy, annoying human making his job a little bit difficult; Sara Burns. These two butted heads so often ,which was always so funny watching Pestilence try to figure out Sara. Or rather, humans, which was the complete opposite of his what he knew of them.
I cannot wait to read the next book in this series.
one of my fav reads this year. This book is so beautifully written that i savour every word i’ve read.
