Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg never asked for fame—she has only tried to make the world a little better and a little freer.
But nearly a half-century into her career, something funny happened to the octogenarian: she won the internet. Across America, people who weren’t even born when Ginsburg first made her name as a feminist pioneer are tattooing themselves with her face, setting her famously searing dissents to music, and making viral videos in tribute.
Notorious RBG, inspired by the Tumblr that amused the Justice herself and brought to you by its founder and an award-winning feminist journalist, is more than just a love letter. It draws on intimate access to Ginsburg’s family members, close friends, colleagues, and clerks, as well an interview with the Justice herself. An original hybrid of reported narrative, annotated dissents, rare archival photos and documents, and illustrations, the book tells a never-before-told story of an unusual and transformative woman who transcends generational divides. As the country struggles with the unfinished business of gender equality and civil rights, Ginsburg stands as a testament to how far we can come with a little chutzpah.

I picked this book up because the political situation after Kavanaugh was eating the heart out of me and I needed some hope. This informative, but conversational book has won a new fan-girl for Ruth Bader Ginsberg, and given her a little light when she needed it (hint: I’m the fan girl).
This book is a great read and a window into the life of an incredible person who is an inspiration for women and men of all ages. The book brings to light RBGs fearless persistance to fight for what she believes is right and just. This book paints a picture of how Ruth accomplishes so much for others while at the same time handling the struggles and surprises of life.
It’s odd to read a story where you know the ending as well as much of the rest of the story and yet you just can’t put the book down. This book is all of that. This should be required reading for anyone wanting to work as a lawyer.
A wise Justice, with a historical background getting to the Supreme Court! Read how this woman blazed trails to help women coming after her.
well-written, easy to absorb book about a great lady.
What a dynamic lady. This is an excellent overview of her body of work.
What a inspiration to all women. She will be badly misted.
This book need very little explanation as a summary. This is a story of Ruth Bader Ginsburg told through interviews from her collegues, friends, family, law clerks, and even from RBG herself. Written and published before the 2016 election, it brings up through her whole life – childhood to her years on the surpreme court, painting a picture of the life of the woman who made it her mission to fight for equality.
I listened to this book as I ran errands this last week. I have the latest RBG book on my shelf, but was curious about this one as well. Knowing that it stopped before Trump took office (and wondering if she knew what was coming if she would have retired so that Obama could have put another liberal judge on the bench) I was curious to get an introduction to the life of this pistol of a woman. Reading about her life – even in this short form that really does just gloss over what she accomplished – made me anxious to read the more recent book about her. She was a powerhouse. She paved the way for women and we have a lot to thank her (and those around her) for.
Great, great, great!!!!!! Loved this woman!!!!
fascinating!, I love this woman! Tiny body and the heart of a lion!
Best gift ever! A woman with strength of character and integrity that influences every decision she made.
We all should be so honorable. Uplifting
Inspirational book containing wonderful quotes.
Really love this book. It’s a keeper. Incredibly well researched with a multitude of references to RBG’s writings and accomplishments. The serious content is tempered with playful interludes where the writers come up with clever captions and chapter titles. The book is well illustrated with many photos of RBG at various stages in her life and official documents that she authored. The appendix entitled “How to Be Like RBG” summarizes the human traits that made this legendary woman so worth emulating.
I learned so much about RBG (what a feisty lady!), and about how the Supreme Court operates.
Excellent portrayal of RBG, her life and work in the Supreme Court. I really enjoyed it.
Five stars for the woman RBG … but only three stars for the book.
RBG was an amazing woman and will be missed. Yes, I learned more about RBG’s life, but at times this book just seemed to be a jumbled mess.
The writing is OK, but Justice Ginsberg is a larger than life person which makes this book so enjoyable to read.
all women should read this
Love this woman and what she has done for this country. Great story of breaking the glass ceiling.
Not as detailed as I expected. Other biographies of RBG are much more complete.
