From the moment Peter Mayle and his wife, Jennie, uprooted their lives in England and crossed the Channel permanently, they never looked back. Here the beloved author of A Year in Provence pays tribute to the most endearing and enduring aspects of his life in France—the charming and indelible parade of village life, the sheer beauty, the ancient history. He celebrates the café and lists some of … some of his favorites; identifies his favorite villages, restaurants, and open-air markets; and recounts his most memorable meals. A celebration of twenty-five years of Provençal living—of lessons learned and changes observed—with his final book Mayle has crafted a lasting love letter to his adopted home, marked by his signature warmth, wit, and humor.

Such an enjoyable read.
I’ve read absolutely all of Peter Mayle’s books. And the death of such a great man saddened me, leaving a scar on my heart. Probably for life. The release of this book only confirms: “People are mortal, art is eternal”. So let’s forget for a moment the cruelty of our lives and immerse ourselves in the peaceful atmosphere of lovely Provence.
Just plain loved the realistic approach of moving to Provence!!
Big fan of Peter Mayle – this book is as engaging as all his books – loved it!
An entertaining read for one who needs a break from a constant reading history of biographies
So boring I never finished it
He called this one in
Very easy going, relaxing book.
It took me to france
An enjoyable read. Not an earthshaking story just a pleasant story line.
I enjoyed his previous books. Captivating the quirky, charming at times hilarious events of living abroad in France.
I’ve read most of Peter Mayle’s wonderful books.
I love them all. Travellogs , mysteries and Mediterranean romps.
I was very dismayed to see that he had passed away.
Another bright light extinguished.
This is his last book, but any book by Peter Mayle is wonderful, especially if you like things about France since he moved from England to live in France.
Good information about Provence, France, especially the climate and food.
An interesting Follow-up to A Year in Provence to bring the adventure up to date.
I lived in France for two years when I was young. I love reading books that recall that happy time to me.
This was a wonderful addition to the Peter Mayle books that take place in Provence, both his fiction and non-fiction. This book recaps many of the scenes we’ve read before but always with a new twist. I laughed out loud at many of the anecdotes and always went away from my reading session hungry after the descriptions of sumptuous food and wines.
I’ve read all these books and watched the TV show. Anyone who loves travelling and the more traditional European ways should enjoy this.
I have all of Peter Mayle’s books as we love Provence as he did. Wry looks at human nature and the characters that populate that area of France. We lost Mayle in 2018 but he leaves a great treasury of reading.
Peter Mayle will be missed.
I read his books every Summer. With a glass of Rose. On my back deck.
This was published posthumously, but it still contains the same warmth and charm of all his other stories about Provence. When reading this last book, I felt as though I was there too: the sights, sounds, scents, and the marvelous people of France come to life as only Mayle can conjure them up for us. His novels are charming enough, but it’s the non fiction where he really shines! Read this book and you’ll understand why I am such a fan.
