Since childhood, Nila Carter was made to spend every weekend at the family cabin. In her teenage years she believed it to be a prison. As an adult it became her sanctuary and means to survive. When a mysterious outbreak occurs in India, Nila’s brother, Bobby, a virologist with the CDC, places the family on a precautionary alert to be ready to bug out. Unlike anything he’s ever seen, the … the rabies-like virus is not only deadly but causes extreme violent behavior in anyone who becomes infected. Following her brother’s advice, Nila begins to stockpile.
After months of preparing, just as it seems the virus is over, everything implodes and Bobby informs them to leave the city. With her family, Nila heads to the mountains and to her father’s isolated cabin. There she is eventually joined by friends and strangers, all hoping to safely stay clear of the virus that grips the world.
While there, the group forms a tight bond, feeling secure that they will beat the extinction event and in due course return home. As time moves on, Nila quickly learns there are things they cannot run from.

Boring
Onother great book by Miss Druga. She is never disappointing.
Very good spin on a zombie-like story.
It was a lot like another book I read…not really happy with it
really boring
wonderful reading, stayed up late to finish it
This is an easy read SHTF story, nicely done.
The main character in this book is like a train wreck. She makes the worst decisions and you want to stop reading but you cannot look away.
I loved this book! While I rarely READ plague/post-apocalyptic/outbreak style books, I am a fierce ‘Walking Dead’ and ‘Last Ship’ TV series fan. This book felt real and frighteningly possible. The main characters were well developed and sympathetic. The violence felt justified and not gratuitous.
While I’ll admit it went a bit more towards the true ‘zombie’ movie stereotype near the end, it completely redeemed itself by distinguishing between being bitten by ‘the infected’ vs. ‘the dead’.
If this is your genre, read it! If it’s not, try it!
Kept my interest.
I enjoyed reading this book. The main character annoyed me at times by dithering when she could have been more decisive. I can relate to her because I too can be indecisive.
Pretty good book.
I seldom read this type of apocalyptic novel, but this was very fast pasted and kept me reading late in to the night!
Not bad for a walking dead fan. A bit unrealistic though. Not a lot of action.
loved this book, if the 2nd part is ever free I will read it also
wouldn’t recommend….main character is portrayed as really stupid – don’t waste your time with this one – nothing about this book to like
Very good characters that you care about & an exciting storyline!
Held my interest. Well written.
Had an excellent premise…however the writing did not do justice to the premise. The dialogue doesn’t sound like people actually talking and a book will lose me quickly for that. I did read both books. I kept rooting for the author, I guess. Like I said great premise.
As for the main character, she was not the strong female character promised. She did not adapt well to the apocalypse, even though she had time to prepare. She was whiny, stupidly stubborn and half the time I couldn’t figure out her reckless motivations. She was responsible, at least in part (often a BIG part) of almost every horrible thing that happened to the survivors with her.
If you read the book, use it as a cautionary tale of who to avoid in an apocalypse…trust me it’s this character.
The book was very good. I know remember why I don’t read these types of books! They stay with me too long.
