Em needs a horrible fake boyfriend
For Em Davis, planner extraordinaire, life should run as smoothly as her economic forecasts. She’s got a checklist for the perfect boyfriend, and now she’s met Thomas, who ticks off all the boxes. The only problem is her parents keep rejecting her new men. But she has a solution: she’ll bring home someone so offensive that Thomas will shine in comparison.
Ian Reid is the perfect man for this role. He’s a foul-mouthed jerk who insults her each time they meet. How hard could it be to spend three days over Christmas with a sexist lunkhead to teach her picky parents to quit interfering with her love life?
The only thing that Em hasn’t calculated is that there’s a whole other side to this sexy ex-pro hockey player. And a lot can happen in three days.
The final book in this trilogy brings together the couple who have been fighting their attraction since they first met in My Viral Valentine. This book originated as Her Best Worst Boyfriend in the USA Today bestselling Hockey Holiday anthology. It has been expanded to four times its original length, but still has all the chemistry between the earthy Ian and the proper Em.

My Christmas Charade is the third book in the Holiday Hat Trick series featuring three friends that each find love. Each book can be read as a standalone, but I think it may make more sense if they are read in order. (Please note that a different novella version of this story appeared in previously released Hockey Holidays anthology, however though this full-length novel features the same characters as the novella version, it really reads as a brand new story, in my opinion.)
Em wrinkles her nose at the loudmouth, unfiltered, meathead Ian, but after their two best friends get married, Em has an idea: What if Ian is the perfect solution to getting her parents to finally appreciated the successful & cultured guys she typically brings home? By bringing home the worst guy for Christmas, anyone else Em brings home next has got to shine in her parents’ eyes! Read to find out what’s in it for Ian and what happens when the Christmas charade turns out to the real deal.
Melanie’s books are always an amazing read! I love Abby, Sophia, and Em…I’m a bit sad that their holiday stories have now come to an end. This was a great and sweet read, with fiery passion between the two characters. You know what they say about hate and love! 😉
Melanie has a knack for creating universes of characters who I wish were real people. Her words paint beautiful imagines of her fictional world and I’m always happy to be able to read my way through her world. Em and Ian were great – I highly recommend this book and the Holiday Hat Trick series!

Sweet, sexy, funny holiday read!
Fantastic holiday read and perfect ending to this series! Romance, sizzling chemistry, great characters and hockey make the perfect mix! Enjoy!!!
Melanie Ting is a go-to author for me and I’ve been looking forward to the third book in the Holiday Hat Trick series and it certainly did not disappoint!
Em knows that she’ll be heading home for the holidays and while she’s just started dating someone new, her parents tend to dislike everyone she brings home. They liked the guy she dated for 10 years, but after they broke up, it’s been nothing but dislike and so she’s changing tactics. She decides to take a fake boyfriend, someone so different from what she’s looking for, she hopes that when she takes her “real” boyfriend home, they’ll approve of him.
Ian is best friends with Em’s best friend’s husband, so she’s around him often, but he’s the exact opposite of what she’s looking for in a partner. He’s an ex-hockey player that doesn’t have the cleanest vocabulary, he had a rough childhood and he’s not one for settling down, so on paper he’s the perfect person to play Em’s fake boyfriend over the holidays.
As Em and Ian spend time together, it becomes obvious that they both have parts of themselves that have been hidden from the other. Is it possible that they are a perfect match instead of the exact opposite?
I enjoyed these two characters and how well we got to know them. One of the things I love so much about Melanie Ting’s books is that we really get character development that enriches the story. There was plenty of heat, humor and heart in this tale. Do yourself a favor and check out not only this book, but the others in this series as well!
