Set in the glittering, vibrant New York City of 1950, Lucia, Lucia is the enthralling story of a passionate, determined young woman whose decision to follow her heart changes her life forever.Lucia Sartori is the beautiful twenty-five-year-old daughter of a prosperous Italian grocer in Greenwich Village. The postwar boom is ripe with opportunities for talented girls with ambition, and Lucia … Lucia becomes an apprentice to an up-and-coming designer at chic B. Altman’s department store on Fifth Avenue. Engaged to her childhood sweetheart, the steadfast Dante DeMartino, Lucia is torn when she meets a handsome stranger who promises a life of uptown luxury that career girls like her only read about in the society pages. Forced to choose between duty to her family and her own dreams, Lucia finds herself in the midst of a sizzling scandal in which secrets are revealed, her beloved career is jeopardized, and the Sartoris’ honor is tested.
Lucia is surrounded by richly drawn New York characters, including her best friend, the quick-witted fashion protégé Ruth Kaspian; their boss, Delmarr, B. Altman’s head designer and glamorous man-about-town; her devoted brothers, Roberto, Orlando, Angelo, and Exodus, self-appointed protectors of the jewel of the family; and her doting father, Antonio. Filled with the warmth and humor that have earned Adriana Trigiani hundreds of thousands of devoted readers with her Big Stone Gap trilogy, Lucia, Lucia also bursts with a New York sensibility that shows the depth and range of this beloved author. As richly detailed as the couture garments Lucia sews, as emotional as the bonds in her big Italian family, it is the story of one woman who believes that in a world brimming with so much promise, she can—and should be able to—have it all.

Beautiful cover; even more beautiful book. It will linger with you long after you reach the end. Prepare to laugh, cry, and everything in between. I love Adriana Trigiani’s work but this is in a league of its own. As close to perfect as you can get.
I absolutely fell in love with this novel and I’ve read it more than once. Gorgeous, well-constructed, historical in its way as it’s set in the fifties. Lucia is a wonderful character, one I can’t forget, and the story is so good that you don’t want it to end. I highly recommend Lucia Lucia.
Another of this author’s great books. Detail is captivating, a look backwards in time is fascinating.
Adriana Trigiani is one of my favorite authors. Don’t need to say any more. If she writes it, I read it, I love it and often read it a second time. She Rocks, especially when she goes into her Italian roots that we share.
Always love her characters and writing.
I love all of her books and this one did not disappoint.
This novel takes place in the 1950’s in New York’s Greenwich Village. Lucia is part of a large Italian family and works in the Custom Dress Department at B. Altman’s. She is a career woman, who is unlucky in love due to a curse placed on her. In this book, she has experiences that help her make up her mind as to what she really wants – her career …
Not my favorite Trigliani.
I loved learning about Lucia as she tells her story to her young neighbor. She takes the reader from the 1920’s to the present! She was an independent woman before it was popular and continues to be curious and interested in doing new things at the age of 80 or 90 (I forget her age at the end of the book).
I enjoyed the window this book gives into the lives of a second generation immigrant family in mid 20th century New York. It is light, yet enough substance to keep me reading.
This was the first Adriana Trigiani book I read and I loved it. Lucia is a very sympathetic and likeable character, and her story is rich and stays with you.
Her books are all fabulous . Can’t put them down .
The author knows how to draw you into this historical NY story. A delightful read.
I would recommend reading this book to all readers. It was well developed with believable characters.
I always love Adriana Triggiani’s characters. Easy to get caught up in the story
