It’s taken Kate Kingsbury two years to find peace after her husband was killed in a home invasion. Now she’s found her refuge, living the free and easy boat life at Shark Key Campground and Marina. Except that nothing in life is free. Or easy.
Shark Key is home to a rag-tag group of folks, scraping to get by on an island known more for its lively night-life and exclusive vacation homes than for stable jobs or affordable living. In fact, Kate quickly learns that the average local cobbles together a living from three or more jobs, just to afford their rent. She’s grateful to have Danny’s small pension and a home on a derelict houseboat named Serenity.
Shark Key’s owner, Chuck Miller, is a third generation Conch who’s committed to giving single moms a safe place to raise their kids. Until he gets a little behind on his payments and shady Miami slumlord Monty Baumann swoops in to steal the tranquil little island out from under him.
Shark Key’s last hope is an unbelievable legend from Chuck’s grandfather, a former gangster who worked for the infamous Al Capone. And when the only clue they have is stolen by one of Baumann’s hired thugs, the Shark Key family must band together to retrieve it and find the treasure.
But can they recover it before it’s too late?

I enjoyed this book very much, it was very entertaining. I have already pre-ordered the next in the series.
What a great read! It draws you in and won’t let go until you’ve read it all. I found myself wanting to be sitting on Kate’s boat and watching the sunset and ending the day with friends and family. It’s definitely a must read and read again.
Set in tropical paradise, this story is fast-paced, brilliantly-written, and a lot of fun. Don’t miss the adventure!
Adventure in the Keys and a well written narrative.
Enjoyed this book. Everyone has their baggage and things don’t always turn out the way you want or happily ever after but staying positive and leaning on friends when needed can give you the ending you need maybe more than want!
I enjoyed the characters. Every time I put it down, the book called me back to keep reading!
great suspense…friendships bound together for common cause…exciting and tragic at times.
Great descriptions of old Florida keys and its citizens.
Great book. Kate doesn’t want to depend on anyone for anything. She gets caught up in a treasure hunt that goes awry. A real page turner with unexpected twists and turns. Beautiful descriptions of the Florida Keys adds to the story.
Wish I could find this Lost Key and move there. Wonderful story with the right people winning the game. The exciting part is HOW they did it.
Excellent read, especially having spent days in the Florida Keys and diving the area.
Fun read
An unlikely “family” vs. the mob. Throw in a treasure hunt and who could ask for more.
Very enjoyable read…
feel good story with a bang up ending.
Great summer read, set on Shark Key, just off Stock Island, which is the last island before you reach Key West on the Overseas Highway.
I really enjoy Chris Nile’s works
I’ve read all 3 of the books in this series. Great reading!
It’s a good story but nothing great, IMHO. The characters were well developed, but some lack depth/credibility in crises like Steve and Vince. For the most part, the story was predictable. What damaged it the most for me was the endless, tedious details of every scene or place that dulled the interest. Other than that, it is well written.
I love the Florida Keys so Lost Key by Chris Niles grabbed my attention by its location. It’s the far-fetched story of a sad woman hiding from life on a boat in the keys. She gets involved with helping an old man save the marina from a hungry land developer with no morals. Sunken treasure, people falling overboard, double crossing, and Al Capone all come into play. I really liked the dog, Whiskey.
