Lost Coast is my favorite of the Undead Ultra series, the action intensifies, we are given a deeper understanding of some of the characters who were strangers from Dorm Life. I have to admit the story and Gwyndolyn Druyor’s excellent narration caused me to get teary eyed in a couple of places while listening. If you are an Undead Ultra fan, this episode one is a must read/listen.
FYI – contains mild spoilers. I have to say that Camille Picott’s Undead Ultra series is one of my favorites in the whole zombie apocalypse genre. I love the setting – Northern CA – because I have some familiarity with the area but do not know it intimately. The tenacity of the main protagonist, Kate, is infectious (no, not that kind of infectious. Kate is not a zombie!) and inspiring. She is one fiery person that kicks ass and takes names!
Undead Ultra 3 Lost Coast starts out with the gang from Humboldt University surviving and growing. They’ve figured some things out, they’ve added some great people to their ranks. They are learning how to grow food and expand their solar power system. They even have an outlet to see what’s happening in other parts of the world via the ham radio one of their members, the resident writer, operates.
Of course, this idyllic survival mode was not destined to continue thanks to evolution. Zombie evolution. That’s where the story really becomes seriously interesting. This evolution seemingly takes away the edge that humans have in their hip pocket to fight back. However, the group takes some extraordinary risks to formulate a plan to deal with this new threat.
Throw in some dastardly drug dealers and a harrowing distress call via the ham radio, and the people at Humboldt University have decisions to make. Are they going to come to the aid of their allies to the south, nestled on the California coastline?
Undead Ultra 3 Lost Coast is the full meal deal – it has action, well developed characters, an exciting plot, some romance, and of course zombies. I enjoyed every minute of reading this book – the whole series, honestly!
I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review
Everyone knows that it is hard to write a zombie story that is fresh and new, but I think that this author has given it a good run! Haha kind of a pun because everyone runs in Zombieland but especially in Ultradead stories as they feature runners. I have read this series since its beginning and love the smooth writing, realistic conversations by characters, as well as the ultrascary bad guys! I hated when I had to set it down and loved picking my Kindle up again. It reads like I am there; I even caught myself clenching my fists during the fight scenes! I received this story as an ARC, where I receive the ebook for free in exchange for an honest review. This is an honest and heartfelt review.
