Soon to be a major motion picture starring Dev Patel, Nicole Kidman and Rooney Mara, this #1 international best-seller tells the miraculous and triumphant story of a young man who rediscovers not only his childhood life and home…but an identity long-since left behind.“Amazing stuff.” –The New York Post“So incredible that sometimes it reads like a work of fiction.” –Winnipeg Free Press (Canada)… of fiction.” –Winnipeg Free Press (Canada)
At only five years old, Saroo Brierley got lost on a train in India. Unable to read or write or recall the name of his hometown or even his own last name, he survived alone for weeks on the rough streets of Calcutta before ultimately being transferred to an agency and adopted by a couple in Australia.
Despite his gratitude, Brierley always wondered about his origins. Eventually, with the advent of Google Earth, he had the opportunity to look for the needle in a haystack he once called home, and pore over satellite images for landmarks he might recognize or mathematical equations that might further narrow down the labyrinthine map of India. One day, after years of searching, he miraculously found what he was looking for and set off to find his family.
Lion is a moving, poignant, and inspirational true story of survival and triumph against incredible odds. It celebrates the importance of never letting go of what drives the human spirit: hope.

It was very informative and incredible that he was able to find his family.
Very upsetting to read. Questions are answered near the end. Tough to read buy worth the read.
I love children, and I was just sick, wondering if he would ever find his family as he never new his name or home town. Trapped in a train for 1600 hundred miles, not knowing we’re he was for over 26 years.
It is a true story. I’ve seen the movie. But the book adds so much more to it. I couldn’t wait to read each aspect of the book. How the little boy turned out and how he grew up. And then how he found his biological mother. It is a very good book. I recommend it.
While I don’t think this was brilliant writing, the narrative was engaging and authentic, and the author told a surprisingly detailed story of his experience as a young child. I was impressed by what he went through and his strength of character. I am pleased that he was able to find resolution and that he became a man of integrity and heart.
If you loved the movie, you’ll love the book even more. It goes into so much more detail about the amazing story of a lost boy.
An honest portray of a terrible personal tragedy written in a hopeful down-to earth manner. A sad but very beautiful story of two families in two very different worlds, coming together by the love and understanding of a strong young man that triumph over the horrible circumstances of his early youth.
It is amazing what the web cam reveal.
Ok, not really my personal cup of tea. Prefer fiction.
I saw the movie and knew I wanted to read the full story to ‘to get all the details’ and I was not disappointed. I can’t wait to watch the movie again with the full background in place. What an amazing journal Saroo had and though many might call it tragic I believe his positive attitude has brought great attention to the trials and triumphs of lives can be and still find blessing in each. Though Saroo continues to talk about ‘coincidences’ throughout his life, I firmly believe in a loving Heavenly Father who is intimately involved in our lives and there is nothing random in life. I think this book would be wonderful to read our families.
Interesting story, too much repetition, and excessive attention to minor details which slow the pace of the book
The journey of a lost child and the inspiration found within the adult ‘child’ when he went back to search for his roots in India was especially interesting to me. I have traveled in some of the area he spoke about and it was a vivid description to me. It is definitely worth the read!
I found the book completely understandable. I hope it was honest and realistic.
It reflected much of what I know about life and what is available to each of us in our journeys here on earth. Although I was never a poor Indian child, I was a lonely, latch key child, and identified with many of these situations and felt a protecting holy spirit guiding me. Some of us have a short time here and others have marvelous experiences that open up new worlds to our understanding as we live long lives. it requires faith and hope to live a good life and this book touched me.
Wonderful touching story.
Military drama incorporating mind boggling courage and a sour but plausible ending.
