I am currently reading Book # 3. The story is about a world wide pandemic that most people do not survive. There aren’t any zombies or monsters; well humans who act like horrible people, but real problems that might happen.
I have so enjoyed the character development. I just hated putting the book down. With every chapter, I wanted to know what would happen next. How would they survive? Would I do it their way? It is a story about rebuilding humanity. I would recommend this book as it is extremely interesting. I hope there are more like this coming!
I enjoyed everything about this excellent book – the plot, settings, and characters. This world of the future has a dwindling population and failing infrastructure, caused by the double whammy of a changing climate and a deadly virus. The virus that caused the initial catastrophe is followed annual flu seasons that kill more folks, even with vaccines.
The author uses these popular plot devices without once preaching about mankind’s irresponsible behavior. This is rare, and I appreciate it. I like to keep my reading of current events and speculative fiction separate. I like an author that writes a great story without explaining its relevance to the reader.
Like all the best stories, this is about people adjusting, adapting, learning, and helping others to do the same. Not everyone is a good guy, of course, but this is not a book about the evil in man winning the day. There is hope for a future beyond simple survival, but plenty of obstacles to overcome. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
Ok, so this is really annoying. I didn’t realize it was book 1 of a series until after I’d purchased it. No worries, I can just read this one, right? WRONG. I Love these people, I Love the story, I Love the world building, I Love, Love the people (did I mention that already?), beautifully written, exciting, engaging… Bottom line? Now I’m hooked and I’ll have to get all of them. grrrr! Ok, all kidding aside, this is a super book and shows every sign of being a super series. If you’re still reading this review, quit wasting your time and go it!
I can hardly wait to read the next book!
loved the entire series!!
This was the best post-apocalyptical series I’ve ever read! Loved them! Worth re-reading in the future!
Have read several apocalyptic books. This one has a more realistic and hopeful outcome for humanity due to certain characters in the book.
Enjoyed this 5 volume series about regular people rebuilding civilization after a world-wide viral plague. It is at times instructive and also frightening to see the tenuous hold on civility once the food runs out. Definitely a good read!
Scary and haunting because this could happen!
I have enjoyed this series~
All around, a well-done piece of writing.
I really liked this one. It quietly snuck up and sunk it’s claws into me with a frighteningly plausible look at what could happen if…just one or two little things in our world as we know it change. It was riveting.
I’m reading the trilogy. Lethal Season is the first book. The author creates a world here on earth that’s different from what it is now, and the characters are interesting, and I cared enough about them to want to keep reading! If you enjoy a science-fiction world, these books are excellent!
Not a sci-fi fan usually, but just finished all 4 books in this series and thoroughly enjoyed them. Great, lovable characters.
As soon as I finished the last page I had to immediately get the book in the series. Same for each of the books in the series. What am I going to do when I’ve finished the last???!!!!
Lots of Problems; Little Resolution
There are many appealing aspects to this book. I liked the characterization and found the two main characters especially appealing. The world building was consistently interesting. And the writing was fine. When I started reading it, I was immediately drawn in and remained involved until the end.
The reason I gave the book just three stars was that ultimately it seemed much more a setting of scene for actual action that would occur in subsequent novels in the series. There was just not enough story here and certainly no resolution to any of the problems that were merely introduced here.
Needs sequels
I loved everything about all 4 books in this series.
What a unique story! I am character driven and i really enjoyed the characters. The story with the characters really interested me. Devoured all books in the series that are available and am eagerly hoping they’ll be another.
Entertaining dystopian novel. Would read more in the series.
I was immersed in a whole new world.
