Wind Rider Chronicles – Book 1Threatening clouds and fierce storms besiege the city of Tyroc. More frequent and powerful than ordinary storms, young Elowyn, a weaver’s daughter living in the outskirts of the city, senses something disturbing and unnatural about them. She soon realizes that the storms are but a warning sign of much more frightening things yet to come. Terrifying wolf-like … come.
Terrifying wolf-like creatures emerge from the depths of the wilderness at the bidding of a dark master. His name found only among the crumbling pages of ancient texts, the re-appearance of Alazoth and his Hounds is a dark omen for the people of Tyroc and beyond. Only legends remain of the heroes and prophets whose blood was shed ages ago to banish him into the abyss, which should have remained his prison for all time. How he has been released is a mystery, but all the old stories agree that death and destruction are sure to follow.
With the Hounds inching closer each day, the city of Tyroc caught up in religious and political turmoil, and her home life no less turbulent, Elowyn has nothing left to rely on but her meager courage and a budding faith in Aviad, the Creator. She and her sister, Morganne, set out on a remarkable journey that challenges everything they have ever known about themselves, the world, and the path that Aviad has laid out for them.

Fantastically descriptive. I loved the world building and how the characters interacted with each other.
In these dark days we are living in, finding a book that helps not just take one away from the real-life nightmares but to instill a sense of hope that, perhaps, not all is lost, is more than refreshing. It’s soul cleansing. A much needed breath of actual freedom in these not-so-free days we are experiencing right now. There really is nothing wrong at all about believing there is something more out there than simply living…existing…suffering…and dying. Perhaps, just perhaps, there really IS a loving Creator guiding us on our journey called life.
The storms are getting worse and they are also not natural. What is going on? Wolf like creatures appear and they know an evil.is coming which needs to be stopped. How can they be stopped? Who will stop them? See what will happen

A great start for another series. Great charters and you become one on their journey
If you’re looking for clean Christian fantasy, and want to be swept away to another world, look no further. Journey to Aviad is a beautifully written allegory that follows a young girl named Elowyn and her sister, Morganne.
There is something enchanting about this tale that makes me want to keep reading despite the fact that I don’t typically care for the 3rd person omniscient point of view. And there’s quite a bit of telling vs showing and more description than I would typically deem necessary. For this reason, there are moments when this story drags, particularly when Einar tells Elowyn his story and when the girls read from Gareth’s book. In my opinion, both are interesting but are too detailed take too long. But it doesn’t last forever and it’s worth the adventure.
The only other issue I had with the story is that it ends rather abruptly. That said, at the time that I write this, the sequel is also free if you subscribe to the author’s newsletter. Personally, I had to know what happened to these girls, so I’m currently reading the sequel. There is little I love more than finding a story that transports me to another world and makes me want to stay… If that’s you, join Elowyn and Morganne on their Journey to Aviad.
Journey to Aviad by Allison Reid is the first book in the Wind Rider Chronicles. We meet Elowyn, a bright and spirited young girl who loves spending most of her time outdoors away from her overbearing mother. When she stumbles upon what she believes to be a fight of some sort, telling by the tracks left in the ground, her life is forever changed.
I fell in love with Elowyn. Bright, headstrong, and wise of the ways of the woods and the life within it. She came to life right before my eyes. I fell into this story and didn’t want to leave. The characters were well flesh out, and the world building exceptional. There were religious overtones throughout the book which worked perfectly within this story. I will definitely be reading more of Elowyn’s journeys. This is a wonderful story for preteens and adults alike.
Allison does a wonderful job creating beautiful loving characters that face strong adversity. Elowyn and her sister go from living at home to traveling on the road. They face great monsters and helpful friends along the way. I love this book so much I am in the process of re-reading it once again.
First of all love me some fantasy and now with grandchildren coming of age I find myself reading more of them to see if I can pass them on. This is most definitely one I will be passing on. There is amazing imagery provided by this author that puts you smack dab in the middle of it all. You can see, feel and smell it all as it is described and that makes the story all the better. There are times when I feel like someone is relaying the story, telling instead of being apart of it and well while not really a bad thing it kinda takes me out of the flow. That doesn’t make it bad it just is what it is.
So yes this is a new to me author and one I will be exploring further. I do enjoy her characters and their quest and can’t wait to enjoy this and more journey’s. Great read can’t wait to see what the grands think of it.
