Jonas isn’t the kind of guy to submit to the expectations of others, even when his life is on the line. So when he wakes up in the cell of a dungeon with torture devices hanging on the wall, he can only think one thing: this should be fun. What he didn’t expect, however, is the beautiful but … expect, however, is the beautiful but broken female pitting herself against his resolve. For once, the pain of his past is shallow in comparison to another, and he wants nothing more than to extinguish her pain.
When Sasha realizes one of her own has been taken, the gloves come off. Using her ever-expanding resources of both human and non-human magic workers, she sets out to battle the most advanced, most experienced magic worker in the world. Regardless of being completely outmatched, Sasha and Stefan rush to Jonas’ aid.

‘Jonas’ is book seven in K.F Breene’s Darkness series. This story continues on from ‘Shadow Watcher’. Highly Recommend previous books are read prior to this.
Jonas has been taken by this mysterious enemy, with no clues or answers as to who they are, where they are or what they want. Sasha is on a war path, no one takes one of her loved ones, he may be an moody, irritable ahole but he is family. God help who has him as Sasha and Stefan with The Clan, The Pack, Witches and associates are coming for their friend. Jonas has his own “demons” to fight, having no one to really understand his need to be dominated in the bedroom to help with these “demons”. So when he is kidnapped his torturer may be his salvation.
Ok firstly seeing another side to the tough unshakable Jonas was a shock. The only time we have been able to see glimpses of the softer side to him was when he was around Aurora, when Sasha almost died to save everyone and then with Savion and Sabrina, but never around a female. Who would have thought that being kidnapped would turn out to be the best thing to happen to him. Although things move super fast for him and his lady interest (not going to mention name, it’ll be a big spoiler) it was meant to be and you don’t want to mess around with fate.
This series would have to be my favourite so far this year, it’s fast paced, full of action, angst, thrills, mystery, romance and even comedy. The soft banter between the inner circle balances the hard moments beautifully.
I loved getting to read Jonas. We all knew his background was steeped in pain so having that expanded upon was fascinating.
I really liked the new character Emmy & even though she has been broken in the worst ways, her inner strength was beautiful to see!!
This book continues right where Shadow Watcher #6 finished but from Jonas’ s perspective.
An old foe, briefly, rears their head in this instalment. We meet an extremely powerful Mage of the likes we’ve never seen before & it’s not pretty!!! Our heroes are in big trouble from this latest threat & they must face it to rescue Jonas!!
Jonas, meanwhile, is in a different kind of battle altogether. One part of it he’s a master at, pain but the other .. feelings, human’s, vulnerability … He isn’t that equipped to deal with. Or has being around his human Mage, that he’s also come to respect, helped to change him?
I didn’t give this book a 5* rating, surprisingly, because when reading it I felt a bit removed from the story & normally I’m right there with Sasha, Stefan, Charles, Jonas etc
I still enjoyed it & wholeheartedly recommend others read this book & the rest of the Darkness Series, it is an amazing series after all!!
UPDATE FROM A RE-READ 6th March ’18:
I totally connected with the entire book this time around & I found it was much more enjoyable than my first read
