NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE • Set in the near-future, Into the Forest is a powerfully imagined novel that focuses on the relationship between two teenage sisters living alone in their Northern California forest home.Over 30 miles from the nearest town, and several miles away from their nearest neighbor, Nell and Eva struggle to survive as society begins to decay and collapse around them. No single … collapse around them. No single event precedes society’s fall. There is talk of a war overseas and upheaval in Congress, but it still comes as a shock when the electricity runs out and gas is nowhere to be found. The sisters consume the resources left in the house, waiting for the power to return. Their arrival into adulthood, however, forces them to reexamine their place in the world and their relationship to the land and each other.
Reminiscent of Margaret Atwood’s A Handmaid’s Tale, Into the Forest is a mesmerizing and thought-provoking novel of hope and despair set in a frighteningly plausible near-future America.
Praise for Into the Forest

“From the first page, the sense of crisis and the lucid, honest voice of the . . . narrator pull the reader in. . . . A truly admirable addition to a genre defined by the very high standards of George Orwell’s 1984.”—Publishers Weekly (starred review)
“Beautifully written.”—Kirkus Reviews
“This beautifully written story captures the essential nature of the sister bond: the fierce struggle to be true to one’s own self, only to learn that true strength comes from what they are able to share together.”—Carol Saline, co-author of Sisters

I have learned that when it comes to post-apocalyptic fiction, I want the books to teach me something. I want to gain valuable information that I might use if I ever found myself in an end-of-the-world situation. Although the likelihood of ever needing said knowledge is admittedly slim, it feeds my sense of self-improvement. I also like to be …
Great read
If someone told me I only got to bring one book with me to the end-of-days, this would be it. Lyrical writing, believable characters, survival and the most intimate parts of humanity. I cannot recommend this enough.
This is the story of two sisters names Nell and Eva who live in a remote section of their town on the west coast. The story starts out where society has already started to collapse, their parents are dead and they are left to fend for themselves. Because they are unprepared, they eat through most of their rations and play board games – sure that …
Ok, nothing great
It was very hard to get into. It took me 3 or more attempts before I finished it. I’m not sure I would recommend it,
Excellent and original story marred by a gratuitous and distasteful sexual episode.
The author writes in the same style as Anita Shreve. The descriptive scenes are magnificent.
Nice read…
This book was just weird
A good read, could have been longer although the end was interesting.
loved this book, bought the hard cover for my daughter
Incredible flip flops in characters personalities. Father and two daughters living at the end of a forest road in an apocalyptic world. The father removes the chain break and cuts an artery in his leg and bleeds to death. Not credible this wise capable father would EVER do such. Sisters break the shock of fathers death and create a more than …
Two sisters face the apocalypse on their own. The apocalypse is not a sudden event with a virus or bomb, but rather a gradual, and believable deterioration of society. They are hardworking and creative and manage to deal with crises that would stump other.. I recommend it highly!
Terrible writing. Boring book
A great book for readers who enjoy stories of what happens to a family after a catastrophic event.
I liked reading this book because it was different than most in this genre.
beautiful prose
Obsessed characters but a immensely unsatisfying ending.
The author paints a freightening picture of a world gone wrong. Dynamic characters that rise above normality to cope with a new world. Fast paced action that kept me up late into the night reading.
