I was excited to read this book based upon the preview. It is your standard enemy turn lover story. I loved how the author wrote the heroine, Alexis, as a woman who was emotionally repressed and pushed into a life she didn’t want by those that supposedly “loved” her. All the while, she was slowly dying a thousand silent deaths with each lovingly-hateful thing they said or did for their own selfish good. The story progresses when she finally finds the strength to stand up for herself; this leads her to be drawn to the exact kind of man her mother told her to stay away from. The more she denies the attraction, the more the hate ignites, and the lusts burns.
The story really had potential to be great, but it felt like in the end it was the other characters that dragged Alexis to any real character development or change within herself. The plot was predictable, but I don’t mind that as much as how one dimensional Alexis’ character was. Kinda disappointed in her character. *I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. This is my honest review.*
