In this New York Times bestseller, comedy legend Carol Burnett tells the hilarious behind-the-scenes story of her iconic weekly variety series, The Carol Burnett Show. In In Such Good Company, Carol Burnett pulls back the curtain on the twenty-five-time Emmy-Award winning show that made television history, and she reminisces about the outrageously funny and tender moments that made working on the … funny and tender moments that made working on the series as much fun as watching it.
Carol delves into little-known stories of the guests, sketches and improvisations that made The Carol Burnett Show legendary, as well as some favorite tales too good not to relive again. While writing this book, Carol rewatched all 276 episodes and screen-grabbed her favorite video stills from the archives to illustrate the chemistry of the actors and the improvisational magic that made the show so successful.
Putting the spotlight on everyone from her costars to the impressive list of guest stars, Carol crafts a lively portrait of the talent and creativity that went into every episode. With characteristic wit and incomparable comic timing, she details hiring Harvey Korman, Vicki Lawrence, Lyle Waggoner, and Tim Conway; shares anecdotes about guest stars and close friends, including Lucille Ball, Roddy Mcdowell, Jim Nabors, Bernadette Peters, Betty Grable, Steve Lawrence, Eydie Gorme, Gloria Swanson, Rita Hayworth, and Betty White; and gives her take on her favorite sketches and the unpredictable moments that took both the cast and viewers by surprise.
This book is Carol’s love letter to a golden era in television history through the lens of her brilliant show. Get the best seat in the house for “eleven years of laughter, mayhem, and fun in the sandbox.”

I loved watching the reruns when I was a kid. I had fun reading Carol’s take on everything.
Only a three because of lack of humor. The book is somewhat informative but lacks humor. A good example is the famous “Gone With The Wind” scene. She described the sketch but never gave the punch line. Perhaps I didn’t read the description well enough prior to purchase and was just expecting more humor.
Interesting first half then bogs down with too many sketch descriptions.
Her shows were wonderful….clean, funny and always entertaining. The book is the same, and it was interesting to read some of the behind the scenes activities.
Great memories and insight on characters from the Carol Burnett Show.
The book is slow paced. There are however some jewels to be found which to me made it worth reading.
Wonderful. Fabulous. I laughed out loud reading it. The stories about her show and her fellow actors are priceless. I literally could not stop reading until I finished it!
There’s a reason Carol Burnett is an icon. She’s smart, funny, beautiful and more importantly, a conscientious and good person. Loved this book!!
Disappointing. I expedited to be clever comedy as was the author and it is very prosaic.
I am a huge Carol Burnett Show fan – all the cast and crew did such an amazing job at entertaining so many. But this book was a HUGE disappointment, unfortunately. No real insights into the individuals who made the program so wonderful week after week.
Everything. I just really enjoy Carol Burnett.
Loved the Carol Burnett show and was attracted to the book. The initial anecdotes were interesting, then became tedious. Stopped reading one third of the way through.
Just like listening to Carol Burnett. She writes as she talks, witty, funny, serious and informative. Hated having to put it down!
Luv Luv Carol Burnett and watched all her shows.
Jn Such Good Company by Carol Burnett was a rare and extremely entertaining reading experience. Though I am not a TV fan, I remember her skits with Tim and Harvey with great joy. Her humor is a delight, and I truly enjoyed getting to know her and her numerous guests better. This was truly an enjoyable reading experience and I found myself laughing out loud a number of times. I highly recommend this very entertaining book.
I loved the Carol Burnett Show and reading about it brought back great memories and laughs. Tim Conway, Vicki Lawrence, and Harvey Korman what an incredibly talented cast! I hope that many people will enjoy this book as I did! 5 Stars Miss Burnett and thank you for sharing. I’m certain that the clips of the show will go on in perpetuity!
Mostly boring.
I’ve always admired Carol and this book was very insightful. Wonderful stories. I really got to know all the characters.
