House of Rejoicing is Libbie Hawker’s long-awaited return to the lush decadence and dark power of ancient Egypt.
In the waning years of Egypt’s Eighteenth Dynasty, when female power can only come at an unsettling price, four royal women struggle against the shadowy influence of Akhenaten, the infamous heretic Pharaoh. Akhenaten wields control of a strange, emerging religion unlike anything Egypt … religion unlike anything Egypt has seen. His power can’t be denied, but whoever can maintain her grip on the unpredictable Pharaoh will hold all of Egypt in her hands—and better still, will remain mistress of her own fate.
Tiy, once the undisputed might behind the throne, must choose to relinquish her hard-won influence, or manipulate the innocent in order to secure her hold on Akhenaten’s leash. Kiya, an idealistic foreign princess, will win Akhenaten with love—if he’s capable of feeling love at all. The celebrated beauty Nefertiti will use the Pharaoh for her own ends, turning the tables of a deadly political game to free herself from her ambitious father’s grasp. And Sitamun, kept imprisoned as the Pharaoh’s plaything, will defy the gods themselves to save her daughter from a similar fate.
House of Rejoicing is the first part in Libbie Hawker’s new ancient Egyptian series, The Book of Coming Forth by Day. The story will continue in Part Two, Storm in the Sky, in July of 2015.

Good story, interesting
This read makes history seem alive.
I always enjoy a good book about ancient Egypt! I like when there are real historical characters in the book and the story is something that you know has happened.
Different take on this period of Egyptian history. Imagtive
Interesting realistic fiction in ancient Egypt
Too much gore, and crazy family killing family, just a little, too over the top. The incest is too much as well……
Not a bad read but pretty predictable
Excellent characters cannot wait for the last book to come out.
I learned a great deal about ancient Egypt. I vaguey knew that brother and sister mated, but I didn’t know that incest was so rampant and accepted, and that incest may have caused insanity.
I enjoyed the authors spin on the Egyptian Royal life of that era. Having never read about this time period before, I found it fascinating. The royals self absorption and belief in themselves as god-like was revealing. I read all 3 books in the series. The end did not turn out as expected.
An easy summer read with a ‘twisting’ story. May have to go back and read the two following books in the story just to see how this all continues.
Makes you want to read another one of these….
Interesting take on historical characters in ancient Egypt.
A Cinderella story
An interesting view of how the court of Amenhotep came to be. Needs some editing, but over all a good read.
A great author
Love to read these Egyptian novels.
Gives glimpses of what it would have been like in Egypt 2,000 years ago.
I want to read the next books on the series! Love historical fiction!!!
I was a bit disappointed in this book. I gave it 2 stars because the characters would have been interesting, but lacked depth.
