TOP 10 AMAZON BESTSELLER & #1 BESTSELLING ROMANTIC COMEDY A full-length STANDALONE romantic comedy from USA TODAY bestselling author R.S. Grey.Dr. Russell has a bad reputation around our hospital. The scrub techs say he’s cold-blooded, the nurses say he’s too cocky for his own good, and the residents say he’s the best surgeon in the world—really, just a swell guy!—on the off chance he’s … swell guy!—on the off chance he’s within earshot.
I try to avoid him and his temper at all costs. It’s just as easy to admire his sexy, grip-it-while-he’s-ravishing-you hair and chiseled jaw from a healthy distance, preferably from the other end of the hallway…half-hidden behind a plant.
Unfortunately, my plan crumbles when my trusty ol’ boss decides to swap his white coat for a Hawaiian shirt. His retirement leaves me with two terrible options: switch specialties and spend months retraining, or take an open position as Dr. Russell’s surgical assistant.
That means I have to stand near him in the OR for hours on end and anticipate his every need without letting his biting words and bad attitude intimidate me. Oh, and as if that’s not difficult enough, my silly crush on him—the one I’ve tried to stomp on until it disappears—might just be reciprocated.
It’s fine.
I’m fine.
I take my job seriously. There will be no smoldering bedroom eyes across the operating table, no angry almost-kisses in the supply closet. (Well, no more of those.)
What’s the phrase? An apple a day keeps the doctor away?
Maybe I should go for a whole damn bushel.
HOTSHOT DOC is a full-length romantic comedy. For a limited time, I’ve also included an excerpt from my #1 bestseller ANYTHING YOU CAN DO!

I loved the characters in this book, not just Matt and Bailey, but Bailey’s little sister and the kind surgeon she worked for who was retiring. And Matt’s assistant, Patricia, who guarded his time and scared away anyone who’d bother him. I was in the mood for a fun read, and this was a perfect choice. And it was steamy enough to curl my toes. Great entertainment.
LOVED!!! And everything medically related was correct which was a breath of fresh air in romance books that chronically get it wrong. Definitely a one-click read!
Delightful, funny, lighthearted, this was one fun romp. Great characters, great story and great pace, with some laugh out loud hilarious scenes, this book was so enjoyable, I read it again, right after finishing, to get to enjoy the funny scenes all over again.
Matthew Russell, hotshot doctor, prominent spine surgeon, is the scariest, most bad tempered surgeon in NEMC hospital. He goes through surgical assistants like they were disposable devices. They can’t withstand the stress of working under such a driven and demanding surgeon. Then Bailey, an excellent surgical assistant, happily working under Dr. Lopez, is suddenly left adrift when her beloved boss decided to retire. Since Dr. Russell had just lost another in a long line of assistants, her boss Dr. Lopez, who wanted to leave her well situated, arranged to have Bailey get the position. When Matt saw his new assistant, really looked at her, his comment was: do they really make scrubs that small?
What Matt didn’t expect is that Bailey may be a small woman but she was as fiery as she was small and she didn’t take prisoners when she battled with Matt. After a disastrous start working under Dr Russel in his OR, she turned things around and became the best assistant he ever had. But she was getting under his skin. Likewise, Bailey started hating Dr. Russell, then her animosity turned into admiration. As time passed, she started to see under the arrogant exterior to the mushy heart inside and she started to have feelings for him.
This book had some hilarious scenes. There is a funny tone throughout the whole book that has you smiling, then the author hits you with a hilarious scene that has you in stitches. One example is when Matt is going to give Bailey a lift home and they arrive at the parking floor to get his car. She automatically goes to a black Audi, and that’s not his car. Then she goes to a brilliant Ferrari but that’s not it either. She then comments that he’s not flashy so it must be the somber Range Rover, and he hits the key fob for his car, a Prius. Her reaction and comment is priceless. Matt is immensely intrigued by this tiny woman who is “perfectly compliant” in the OR and the opposite outside the OR. She’s brutally honest and he respects that. Their chemistry is off the charts but they resist until they can’t anymore.
Bailey has a little sister, Josie. Josie is as funny and irreverent as Bailey, so they’re like a double combo. When Matt meets Josie, finds she’s a Bailey mini-me and enjoys their back and forth banter, he’s hooked.
I loved this book and immediately want to read another one written by this author. I would recommend it for anyone who needs a mood enhancer, something to lift up your spirits. There’s no chance you read this book and not end feeling better.
A stand alone rom/com with terrific characters and lots of interesting scenarios. Both the H and h had inner beauty—hers easily apparent, his well hidden at first. The H and h were both inspirational characters that inspired each other to new heights. They learned to appreciate each other before they fell in love so that it actually made sense for them to fall in love (unlike in other romance books where the characters fall in love quickly and randomly). This was a really sloooow burn. Tries your patience a bit at times, but the payoff is really tender and satisfying.
Although there were humorous scenes, not all the comedy is blatant or in your face. Sprinkled on every page are turns of phrases and word choices that strike you funny. And the dialogue can be amusing. Bailey can give as good as she gets.
There was a conflict of course, but the way it was resolved was so reasonable and rational that I couldn’t believe I was reading a romance story. Usually the conflict in romances is based on some silly miscommunication or assumption. That’s not what this was at all, and the resolution was smart and mature. Very nicely done.
This was a nice story with good character and relationship development. It followed the typical romance formula, but the scenarios were interesting, the OR stuff was unique (not 100% accurate, but good enough for a rom/com) and it just rolled along with a nice flow and good writing style. I recommend it for a pleasant, easy read.
After my last read I needed something light and funny.
I needed a summer book.
I’ve read a lot of reviews about this book with exactly this description.
And you know what?
It’s definitely a perfect sweet, swoony and funny love romance.
I love it and will definitely read more of her books.
It’s an enemies-to-lover story, that takes place in a hospital (most of the time).
I loved the strong, stubborn and funny characters and the writing style.
It’s a relaxing, funny and sweet book.
I haven’t laughed so often in a long time when I read a book.
It’s definitely a page-turner.
A perfect summer romance
Unlike a lot of romance set in medicine, this one is not full of crazy inaccuracies. I really enjoyed the real feel of the hospital and doctor office life. I loved that he was a cranky surgeon, because a lot of them are. I appreciated how the other surgical assistants supported each other. I really liked how mature Bailey was at 26, and that her teenage sister added a lot of humor to the story. This well written story followed Matt and Bailey as they grew to depend on each other, personally and professionally, and they each had personal growth that resulted. Their black moment was handled by each of them like mature adults without undue angst and contrived drama, and I really appreciated that. Their HEA is incredibly sweet. I will definitely be reading more books by this author.
Grey brought all the feels, sexual tension, banter, enemies-to-lovers / office romance goodness to the table in Hotshot Doc. Both Bailey and Matt were well-rounded characters with some flaws that grew as the story progressed.
Slowly, Grey ratchets up the tension between Bailey and Matt until readers are tied up in knots just like our beloved characters. I was inwardly screaming during a closet scene. I have noticed recently that I have been just skimming the smexy bits in my books but I most definitely did not with this story! I felt perfectly engaged each time I picked the book up and would have happily binged it in one or two sittings if I didn’t have to adult.
Highlight? It had me laughing as swooning all the way through. I found the parts with Bailey’s sister Josie was on the scene particularly amusing. Her interactions with Bailey, and later Matt, warmed my heart.
Final thoughts? Do yourself a favor and read this book. It has so much heart, tension, and laughter that really made it a joy to read. I’m so excited to have found a new author that I adore and I’m going to skulk about KU to explore R.S. Grey’s other books.
I won’t lie. I wasn’t expecting to ABSOLUTELY LOVE this book like I did. I needed a cute read, something that wasn’t heavy and I am so glad this is the one I chose. This might be my favorite RS Grey. It gave me so many feelings and it was just what I needed to make me feel a little lighter. I smiled so much. I loved Matt and Bailey. Perfection.
On my scale of R.S. Grey books, I liked Hotshot Doc more than Not So Nice Guy but not as much as Arrogant Devil. I really loved Bailey and Josie and I really liked Matt too – I just wish we got more details about both main characters’ backgrounds. For instance, Bailey’s financial issues are hinted at several times, but we never get a clear idea as to why she’s in such dire straits and nothing is really done to resolve them. And while I sort of understand Matt’s surly attitude and gruff nature, the cause of it isn’t really spelled out in a satisfying way. That being said, I really enjoyed Bailey and Matt’s progression as co-workers to their inevitable coupling. This book also featured one of my biggest pet peeves: a lack of communication between characters, and this also resulted in the biggest hurdle to the couples HEA. Both Bailey and Matt made some really dumb moves (or non moves) in this situation and I truly questioned the emotional intelligence level of both of them, but all’s well that ends well, eh? Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the journey, the steamy bits, and the characters in Hotshot Doc – I think I just wanted more. 3.5 out of 5 wine glasses.
This review is for an ARC and is my unbiased, honest opinion.
First off let me start by saying 3 stars is a solid rating. I know 3 stars gets a bad reputation but honestly, it’s still a great rating. For me 3 stars means that I liked it. I didn’t love it and I didn’t hate it. It was still a nice read but it just didn’t blow me away like the others I’ve read by this author. When I read R.S. Grey I anticipate a romantic comedy with plenty of steam. Hotshot was different from her usual writing that I’ve come to know and love. While it’s totally fine for the author to switch things up, I found myself missing those moments where I would laugh so hard that I had to close the book and regain composure. Or those moments when the book gets super steamy and you have that sly grin on your face hoping no one is looking at you.
For the first half of the book not much went on. I kept wanting to flip through the pages to get the story going. I also struggled with Dr. Russell aka Matt. He just didn’t do it for me. I kept wanting Bailey to move on and find someone else to connect with. Quick heads up:this is a slow burn romance. We really take our time getting to know the two main characters and learning about their lives before they dive into anything romantic. Once we got deeper into the story, I started to sympathize more with Matt. I realized why he was the way he was BUT I still wasn’t swooning over him. I just think he wasn’t the man for me sadly.
I loved Bailey, the other main character. She was such a sweetheart!! I loved how she put everyone else before her. It spoke so much to her character that she would raise her little sister and make sure she had everything she needed before even thinking about something for herself. I also felt bad for her at times because we all need someone to look after us from time to time too. It’s hard to always be the strong one or the one always making sacrifices.
The star of the book for me was Josie. Josie was Bailey’s little sister who loved to read and was desperate for her sister to find her happily ever after. I loved all the nosey questions she would rapid fire at Bailey and Matt. It was just plain adorable. I could also appreciate her love for Grey’s Anatomy. I would totally hang out with Josie any day!
Overall, I liked this story. The last portion of the book was the best part in my opinion. All these walls were broken down, we got to see the characters for who they truly were instead of who they felt they had to be. I would’ve liked to have seen more humor and steam but that’s just my opinion. Otherwise, it’s a great read that I think you will enjoy.
I had high expectations after loving her last book (Arrogant Devil), and seeing how many people said this was their favorite book of hers. This was good, but definitely not my favorite. I’m giving this 3 out of 5 stars. This review is for an ARC, and reflects my honest opinion.
One good thing about this book was that it made me laugh quite a bit. Major points for that! But I think Rachel said this was her longest book yet, and honestly it felt too long to me. Maybe if it was shorter (i.e. the romance happened faster), I would have liked it a little more. My favorite character in the book was Josie. I adored her! I also liked Bailey and Dr. (Matt) Russell, but I didn’t love them like I’ve loved previous characters from this author.
This was such a slow burn book, and then it turned into instalove. Matt was swoony, but mostly just for the second half of the book; I didn’t particularly like him that much in the beginning. Bailey was entertaining, and I think she’d be a good friend in real life. On top of that, she was a fantastic sister. I can’t say enough good things about what she did, and still does, for Josie in the book!
I finished this in 3 days (reading over half of it in 1 day), so obviously I liked it overall. The epilogue was super cute, and I wish we saw more of that timeline when things were finally in place. This just wasn’t what I was expecting; I thought this would be more of a steamy romance like Grey’s Anatomy, which was mentioned several times.
There were a couple minor things that were left unresolved in my mind even after finishing the book: a proposal Matt was working on that we never saw come to fruition, and Dr. Lopez practically disappeared off the face of the Earth after the first couple chapters only to reappear for like two pages for not that great of a reason (I expected more to come from that part). This didn’t feel like Rachel’s usual book, and maybe that’s why I didn’t love it as much as her other ones. Regardless, it was an enjoyable read overall.
A great read! Hard to put down
What a fun and sweet book Hotshot Doc turned out to be. This is a slow burn love story between Dr. Matt Russell, a highly recognized spinal surgeon and Bailey Jennings, a surgical assistant. When Bailey ends up becoming Matt’s surgical assistant, sparks fly. Unfortunately it is not quite the good kind. Matt has a reputation around the hospital; he’s an arrogant jerk, he makes medical reps cry and can’t keep his assistants. Bailey knows all about his reputation since she has befriended many of his former assistants. But she really needs this job; she is the guardian of her 14-year old sister and money is tight. So she sucks it up and was determined to persevere. What ensues is a whole bunch of mishaps, tears, hilarity and so many sweet moments.
I have to say how much I loved Bailey. She is superwoman and I really believe she was not given enough credit. She was only 20 years old when her parents died and became guardian to her younger sister, Josie. You see all that Bailey took on, she gave everything of herself for her sister’s sake, but I really feel like it was just glossed over. I loved Bailey’s confidence and how she was able to stand up to Matt’s arrogance. It was fun when you see how much Matt appreciated it too. As for Matt, he was arrogant, a jerk to so many people, but to see the passion for the work he does showed his amazing heart. There is so much great chemistry between these two.
All in all a great book!
NO SPOILERS!
Hotshot Doc was a funny, sexy, heartfelt, and swoon-worthy standalone romantic comedy, and I absolutely loved it! The storyline and characters were fantastic, and I loved R.S. Grey’s writing style and hilarious sense of humor. R.S. Grey has a special talent for writing romantic comedy, and her books never fail to make me laugh and swoon and smile. Hotshot Doc was another MUST READ from R.S. Grey, and I already can’t wait to devour her next release!
The storyline was amazing. Hotshot Doc had the perfect combination of the enemies-to-lovers, office, and doctor romance tropes, which are three of my favorites. I was hooked from beginning to end, and loved nearly every moment of Matt and Bailey’s story.
The characters were phenomenal. Matt and Bailey were quite the pair, and gave each other a run for their money, but I loved them with all my heart. Matt took a little while to warm up to, but once I did I was a goner for the Hotshot Doc. Bailey was a wonderful heroine and I felt an immediate connection with her. I loved Matt and Bailey’s personalities and red-hot chemistry together, and how their relationship progressed throughout. I loved reading the book from both Matt and Bailey’s point of view, and all of their banter and interactions with each other. The secondary characters, especially Bailey’s sister, were wonderful as well, and I loved the extra humor and entertainment they added to the story. Matt and Bailey’s story was truly enjoyable from beginning to end, and I was very happy with the conclusion.
Hotshot Doc was a MUST READ standalone romantic comedy that had me laughing, smiling, and swooning my heart out! R.S. Grey did a phenomenal job with Matt and Bailey’s story, and I would HIGHLY recommend it!
Hotshot Doc was impossible to put down! I absolutely loved the development between Matt and Bailey. Bailey was such a strong character and I love that she wasn’t dependent on a love interest. Her love for her sister was adorable and Josie was such a fun character. I would 10/10 recommend Hotshot Doc to anyone who loves medical romances or enemies to lovers! So well written!
He needed an off switch…and she was it
THE PRESSURE!!!
I don’t know if you know this, but I’ve stopped blogging. Yes, I’m still reading and reviewing because I can’t seem don’t want to stop myself. The blogging, even though I enjoyed getting my thoughts out into the world, started to feel TOO MUCH. My boys keep me busy and my work is busier too. When something that was supposed to be fun felt more like work and was costing me a lot of money, I knew things had to change. My priorities had to change. At this stage in my life, my priorities need to be bringing in money to make our lives better. I needed to spend my spare time making sure I look after me by eating healthy, exercising and getting out and doing things. Life is hard and way too short to be stressing about likes, reach and ARC’s.
Even though my life issues are not life or death, I completely got Matt. Sometimes, you get into a habit of doing what is expected of you. You work yourself to the bone to make people happy even if it’s at the detriment to yourself. There’s even a little part of you that craves the accolades, the high-fives and fanfare when you get it right. Again, I can’t really compare my blogging woes to a doctor who works his butt off to make lives better, but, I get it.
When I first met Matt, he was an absolute DOUCHEWAFFLE!! Then, as I got to know him, understood the pressure he put himself under, and his history with love, the douchewaffle title was downgraded to CRANKY BUGGER!! Yes, he still gets capitals because he was REALLY cranky. Like Bailey, the heroine of the story, I came to love him anyway. Poor Matt, he knew he pushed everyone away but he had to make a choice…fun or fixing kids to make their lives better. How could you hate a man for THAT???
Bailey’s character isn’t a slump in the old *sacrificing your happiness for others* group either. She is the sole carer of her younger sister and Bailey takes it very seriously. Her relationship with her sister is beautiful and I loved their friendship and connection. Bailey is a brave woman who knows that life can be hard but keeps on keeping on anyway.
I really enjoyed Hotshot Doc. I loved the characters, the story kept me entertained from start to finish and the connection between Matt and Bailey jumped off the pages. R.S. Grey is one of my favourite authors in the RomCom subgenre, and I look forward to every new release. I will definitely be reading more from her in the future.
This is R.S. Grey’s best book yet! I absolutely loved this story!
Fun from cover to cover!
I loved this book so much! I’ve been hoping for another 5 star book from Ms. Grey since read Arrogant Devil. The last couple I’ve read have been good (3.5 and 4 stars) but not great. But Hotshot Doc was GREAT!
It had a similar vibe as A.G. with an enemies to lovers trope, but it was a totally different book. I usually don’t like books where the hero is a jerk. And Dr. Matt Russell was definitely a jerk in the beginning, but the hero of Arrogant Devil started the same way and it turned out to be one of my favorite books ever so I trusted Ms. Grey and kept with it! I’m glad i did.
Thank goodness for alternating POV! If there were not chapters from Matt’s perspective, I think I would have disliked this book. But even when he was behaving poorly, reading his internal monologue really helped me understand why he was that way. And he doesn’t stay a jerk for long. And honestly, he’s not actually a jerk. He’s pressured and has the world on his shoulders with trying to save so many children from lives of pain. I love seeing how a man loving a woman helps him make positive changes in his life.
I really liked the heroine, Bailey, as well. Life had dealt her a hard hand with having to raise her younger sister after their parents were killed in a car accident. Even though she resisted Matt’s advances for quite a while, I totally understood why. The only that bothered me was when she finally has a break through moment, she has this wonderful internal monologue where she realizes that she’s being foolish. She calls Matt and tells him she wants to see him at the work holiday party. But then at the party she tries to bolt! I was SO confused and didn’t understand why she was behaving that way. Thankfully Matt didn’t let her get away!
Because the rest of the book as so great I overlooked that part. I really loved the end and how it all fell together!
There 2.5 sex scenes in this book. One hand job and two that go all the way. They’re detailed and several pages long and very, very sexy! There’s some swearing, multiple uses of the f- word but mostly only in the beginning and it’s not excessive in my opinion.
I’m hoping Ms. Grey writes a book about a grown up Josie! She was such a wonderful addition to the story and I would love to see where she ends up as an adult!
Finished this book in one setting. This author is easy to read and her stories have a little bit of everything in them. If you like Grey’s Anatomy, you will love this one.
