The world Jia and Cees knew no longer exists. Amidst chaos and terror, they find each other and fall in love—a love that goes against all castes’s rules. As their civilization is ravaged by genetically-altered beasts, the caste system relied upon for ages crumbles. The privileged and wealthy are just as vulnerable to the onslaught as are the disadvantaged. Faced with impossible odds and … and unsettling secrets about their society, Jia and Cees must decide which part of their dying world to take with them and what they should leave behind. As they travel in search of a safe haven, they face unspeakable horrors, which shake deep-rooted beliefs and their old way of life.
Will they look past prejudice and centuries-old traditions to join forces against annihilation? Or will they give in to society’s pressure and fight alone?

This is a really good dystopian book that is heavy on conspiracy theories whilst trying to survive in a destroyed world. The storyline is good and definitely makes you think. The characters were really strongly created and the world building is amazing. Not neccesarily my usual type of book but I enjoyed it all the same. It also has a bit of romance as well as mystery. It also delivers a real powerful message which is what I really liked about it. Would definitely be interested in seeing what else this author has written. A solid 4 stars from me.
This was another solid and captivating dystopian, sci-fi, and romance novel from Natalina Reis. It is a rarity that I enjoy dystopian books. However, Natalina Reis is always one that I am first in line to get her newest dystopian book. Natalina has a way of bringing these amazing vision in your head of the world you are reading about. I love the details and the way you feel like you are there, and that this is possibly a future we could be looking at.
In this novel we see a world where social structure has been demolished and rebuilt with a new set of rules and need for new survival skills that the character’s never realized they would need. Our two main characters are Jia and Cee. Everything they thought about life, up until recently, has been torn from them, forcing them to make some difficult changes and rely on each other, when they would have never even been in the same social class, let alone spend time with each other. The two could not be more opposite, but when life hands you lemons, you suck it up and make lemonade. Whatever necessary to survive is first priority. While on this journey together of trying to make a new life for them in a new world, the two fall in love with each other. Can they maintain their love for each other during an extremely stressful time and come out on top? Can their love withstand the tests that life throws their way?
The theme of breaking down social barriers, and these two’s journey together, creates a story that is easy to fall into and get lost for a few hours. It also shares an important message with the readers. Throughout the novel each are faced with unimaginable and terrifying situations that cause them to question everything they once knew about the society that they had become so accustomed to. I loved reading about Jia and Cee and taking in the story of them trying to overcome their obstacles. Natalina conquers the task of imparting import messages of acceptance and love for everyone, even when it seems impossible to survive each day. Especially when you are so used to different standards, it is hard to change the way we think and seeing them struggle with this is not only makes for a fascinating book, but it makes a platform to reach out to people in our world and touch them with new ways to love and accept those around us for who they are, nothing more. Can they make the ultimate decision to work together and come out on top? Or, will they find themselves facing a giant battle themselves?
Another five star read from Natalina for me and I will continue to fan girl over here over all of her new novels as they are released. I look forward to exploring new worlds and falling in love with more characters from her.
Heart’s Prey by Natalina Reis is a dystopian that will grab you from the first page and hold you hostage until the last one. This is my first time reading anything by this author and I was impressed by Ms. Reis’ ability to create such a great book.
Everything in Jia and Cees’ life not longer exists, but they manage to find one another. They are both different as day night, but that doesn’t stop them from falling in love. The social order no longer occurs. Faced with decisions about their future, they embark on a journey to start a new life. Will they be able to start over? Is their love strong enough to survive?
I absolutely love the characters in this book. They are resilient and have great personalities that add so much to the storyline. I couldn’t pick my favorite because I loved them all. Ms. Reis’ writing is seamless, and it never stalls. I couldn’t get enough of this book. It even threw me through a few loops I did not see coming. Can’t say enough good things about Heart’s Prey!
HEART’S PREY is not the first book I’ve read by this author. I’ve enjoyed her other books and was looking forward to reading more of her words.
While this story is set in a dystopian society ruled by the caste system, it could very well be a story set in the present. Prejudice and misunderstandings, racism and forbidden love all play a part in this well written story.
This is a subject that is frequently written about, but this story felt different. I’m not sure if it’s because of the age of the characters (they are older than high school) or the fact that there is a common bond among the different people, but there is just something that I enjoyed more than in other stories of the same type. The characters are quickly developed and the story flows from one location to the next with a cadence that also keeps the story moving in time.
I quickly grew attached to the characters in this story and was cheering them on to succeed in their adventure. This is a book I would recommend to my young adult cousins.
Heart’s Prey by Natalina Reis is a science fiction romance story that will keep you reading until the last page. This is not my first book by this author, I loved this one just as much as her other books I have read. This story is easy flowing and engaging. It will pull you in right from the beginning. Her characters are both connectable and lovable. They took me on a journey that was fast reading and took me on an emotional roller coaster ride. There are a few twists and turns that I didn’t see coming and left me on the edge of my seat a few times. This Jia and Cees story. These two find each other in a world that no longer exists. They meet and fall in love. It doesn’t matter that they come from two different sides of the tracks, the caste system no longer exists. They are now faced with decisions that they never thought they would have to make. Find out what happens with them as they go on a journey of leaving an old life behind to find a new way of life. I loved these characters in this book. They are all relatable, strong and independent. They all know how to survive no matter what their pasts were. There are so many great characters in this book, they all make this story flow. I highly recommend this book. Find out what happens when the world you know is gone and finding a new one could become dangerous.
Heart’s Prey

I love it when I read the blurb for a book and it leaves me wondering what I am in for when I read it and this is exactly what happened with Heart’s Prey – I know that what I did read with this book I was not expecting at all. I’ve read a few books by this author now and I love how versatile her writing is. This book was so beautifully written and I really felt like I was there right along with the characters, Jia and Cees. Their journey was so interesting to read and I really did feel for them both, they had been treated pretty badly in the past. I loved the subtle connection that they had and I was really rooting for them throughout. I think the author did an amazing job with this story and it definitely had me thinking about it long after I had finished reading it.
I would definitely recommend to this book to dystopian fans, it’s a brilliant read from this genre and Natalina Reis is such a talented author – I will be looking forward to reading more form her in the future.
Heart’s Prey

5 out of 5 stars
The story Heart’s Prey by Natalina Reis is a dystopian/fantasy book. It is a story that I enjoyed reading and didn’t want to put down until I had finished the last page. The characters are trying to survive in a destroyed world and also realizing what they have always been taught and believe may not be the truth. They are in constant danger from genetically-altered creatures and are searching for a safe place to live. Will they find this place? Will they be able to work together to survive? This is a story that had me quickly turning pages in order to find out what happens next. I loved reading about the characters of Jia and Cees. I felt bad for how they have been treated in the past by society. It is wonderful to read about the connection/attraction that they two have for each other and I wanted them to be able to find happiness together. This is a book that shows how discrimination can run rampant and how the need of some to think of themselves better than others leads to pain and suffering. Now that everyone is in the same danger can they learn to put their past beliefs behind and trust one another? I have read several books by the author and have always found that she writes wonderful stories with amazing characters. I can’t wait to read what she writes next.

The authors style of writing is one that grabs your attention from the beginning and keeps it till the end. Once I started reading I had a hard time putting it down This story took me on a emotional rollercoaster ride with a few twists and turns. This story is about Jia and Cees. These two find themselves in a world which no longer exists. They fall in love but neither one cares the come from two different sides of the track. Now they are faced with decisions they didn’t think they would ever have to make..I highly recommend this story especially if you want to know what happens. Hearts Prey
By Natalina Reis
This is my second book by Natalina Reis and I have to say it’s a great read. What we have here is a mixture of science fiction and some romance. What you are guaranteed to get from this author is a feeling that you know the characters and are with them on their journey. What more could you possibly want from a book? Our main characters in this book are Jia and Cee. Hearts Prey will take you into a world that’s in the midst of chaos and new rules are in place, a world that is now just about full of danger. How do you live and cope when the only civilization has changed so much? But in this chaos Jia and Cee find love, these two are the opposite of each other and yet they seem to work. Follow their journey in the new world they are getting to know.
If you enjoy a book that the storyline develops fast, then you can be sure that this book is the one you want on your reading list. I can’t give Hearts Prey anything, but a five-star read.
When the world as you once knew falls apart would you survive living amongst those who were once above and below you on class structure.
Although not based around the society we live in today this is completely relatable and even plausible. It is actually quite chilling how plausible it could be.
This touches on racismc and classism and even has a bit of romance.
It was a read like any other I have read and refreshing from the typical dystopian reads.
From page one you are fully immersed in this world and it’s hard to check back into reality.

Hearts Prey by Natalina Reis
Hearts Prey is a 4 Star dystopian romance novel by Natalina Reis. I was intrigued by the synopsis of this book as it sounded completely different than the other book I’ve read by this author, Blind Magic, which was a quirky fun romance story. The author proved to have some range in her writing.
As a fan of dystopian novels, this was not disappointing. This story has romance, action, suspense and current issues like discrimination and segregation. Hearts Prey’s characters and civilization were described well by the author. I’d recommend this story to those who enjoy dystopian novels and for those looking for something a little different, but still relatable.
Heart’s Prey by Natalina Reis was a fast pace, plot driven read that had my flipping the pages like my life depended on it.
Not my first read by this author, I knew I was in for a engaging, masterfully written, heart pounding story. I was not disappointed. This dystopian/fantasy had everything I loved about the genera and more. Opening up strong and we are tossed into this nightmarish world, and are pulled into its hell as we meet our MC’s. This book wasn’t pulling any punches. That dark opening hooks you with in seconds of reading the first paragraph. It sets the stage for this unique tale of finding and holding on to love, when everything is basically a horrifying hell.
Jia and Cees, I don’t think I shipped a couple so fast before in my life. They’re written so well that you can feel their connection. Their bond was real and didn’t fell forced. I can over look the insta-everything, because of the setting and the whole, could die at any moment thing. When it’s writing right, it’s written right. and Natalina has this knack of knowing how to create real emotions through her writing and her MC’s pairings.
The only thing I can say that I didn’t like.. it was too short! I’m hoping there is going to be more from this world, even though Jia and Cees story had a good close out, I believe there is room to explore other aspects of this dangerous dystopian world. So take my high recommendation that you will be captured by the darkness, but stay for the small glimmer of hope that is our MC’s.
Happy Reading

Heart’s Prey is a riveting dystopian, fantasy, romance that drew me in immediately. It had good pacing as well as complete character development. It felt very rich and full in its detail and plot. This was my first book from this author and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Heartily recommended.
Heart’s Prey by Natalina Reis is a story about what happens when the world you knew falls apart and everything you were taught is questioned. Jia and Cees are about to learn the answers to that question when the carefully created caste system that has ruled their lives is torn apart by genetically mutated monsters. Suddenly it doesn’t matter how much you do or don’t have everyone is simply trying to survive. In the midst of all this Jia and Cees manage to fall in love despite being from opposite ends of the system. Will these two star crossed lovers be able to fight against not only the monsters hunting them, but also the prejudice of their own people? Will the survivors be able to find a safe haven? You need to read this fantastic five star read for yourself to find out. The characters are complex and believable, they simply grab you and drag you into a world you won’t ever forget. I’m a fan of this authors writing style. It’s a well thought out storyline and nicely paced. I’m excited to see what the author brings out next.
I give Heart’s Prey by Natalina Reis, 4 stars.
This is a dystopian romance involving Jia and Cees. Creatures have come in and destroyed every they ever knew. Gone is most of their friends and what they knew of living. This is both good and bad. Cees grew up in a lower caste. Not only that, he was an outcast even among his own people. Jia was pretty well off. But her life still wasn’t perfect. When the attacks happened, circumstances brought them together. To survive, they will need each other. But the attraction between them is obvious. Before the attacks, they could never be together. Now, that is all erased and maybe things are possible. But can they overcome the things they were raised to believe? Not only that, they have to keep moving, they have to find away to survive these beasts. Will there ever be peace again?
This was a well written story involving the end of civilization as they knew it. The characters are well written and believable. It was refreshing to see that it is not only just your typical relationships. You do not see that much in a book that wasn’t specially written for that. I enjoyed that because I like diversity and something unexpected in my books. The story itself — them fighting for survival — makes this book all that much better. They run into many problems and makes it all the more real.
I highly recommend this book for those that enjoy dystopian, romance, and fighting for survival books.
Hearts Prey by Natalina Reis is a unique and well imagine story about a world falling apart and finding love amidst the chaos
Jia and Cees live in a world where no one is safe. Genetically altered beasts are on the rampage, threatening their society. With no other option they just leave their home and try to find a new, safer place to try and keep their civilisation going.
With mayhem and fear they have to choose what to take with them from their old life and what is to be left behind. And yet in the middle of everything going on Jia and Cees find themselves growing closer, their feelings deepening. But with everything going on it might not be enough to love each other, the society they have come from may shape heir futures anyway.
This is the first book I have read by this author I found it to be an original and thrilling story. I loved the way the book was written and how well the story flowed. The two characters worked so well together it made everything about them so believable. The story was easy to get into and kept you reading right to the end. A very good book and a new author to add to my list.
Heart’s Prey by Natalina Reis is a dystopian fantasy story. This story will keep you intrigued and the pages turning. I loved the main characters and how even in the midst of the annihilation of the world as they know it they were able to adapt and find happiness. The storyline is different and kept you on your toes and you can picture their trials and tribulations because of Natalina’s writing. In a world that was full of discrimination and segregation and controlled with lies, now becomes one of a fight for their survival and putting that discrimination aside. I am interested to read what Natalina writes next.

Heart’s Prey is a great read from Natalina Reis. I have read a few of Ms. Reis’s books now and she never fails to deliver a story that captivates my attention from beginning to end. This book has a bit of a dystopian feel to it and is a little different from some of her other books I have read. Wonderfully original and beautifully written this Young Adults/New Adults book is a forbidden romance story that gives us an up close and personal look at castes/classes, prejudices, racism, genetic engineering, action, love, friendship, romance, drama, and more.
I enjoyed getting to know Jia and Cees- and following them through their story. They are endearing and well-developed characters who have complex personalities and complicated lives. They live in a world that was destroyed, where things they believed may not be true. Genetically engineered beasts now roam, and danger is an ever-present threat. They are determined to find somewhere safe where they can live. With secrets revealed, their survival at stake, danger around every corner, prejudices, battling long held traditions and beliefs- will they find everything they hope for?
This is quite and intriguing and thought-provoking story that I found to be an unexpected surprise. I don’t really know what I was expecting when I started, but I did know that Ms. Reis would tell great story, which she did- I just didn’t expect to enjoy it as much as I have.
Thank you, Ms. Reis!
.Heart’s Prey by Natalina Reis is a fantasy, dystopian novel. The story focuses on Jia and Cees. The two are facing an uncertain future in a world that is destroyed. The two remember their past but also the challenges that they will be facing. I liked how she used some current important topics such as discrimination. The characters are interesting and the story kept me turning the page. I read through this pretty quickly because I wanted to see where the story would take Jia and Cees. I liked how Reis used current topics and changed them to work into a different reality. I recommend this for a fairly quick read with good characters and an interesting story.
Hearts Prey by Natalina Reis
Rated 4 stars
Natalina Reis has done it again! The story captivated me. There is a nice variety of characters who are courageous but yet heartwarming at the same time. The writing is so smooth it kept me interested so I read it fairly quickly.
This is the story people who live in a ranking society. Once their society has been demolished can the different ranks live together to survive as one or can they never overcome their upbringing?
I enjoyed meeting Cees, Jai and Lieven. Each is different but yet the same. One is a soldier, one is blessed and the other is tainted. These are labels meant to keep them under control. Each brings a different talent to the table when disaster strikes their world. I enjoyed meeting each separate before seeing them together. I got a bit of insight while the others didn’t overshadow. Cees..how could you not “feel” for that one. He has been through a lot but hasn’t let it sour his soul. I love that he is of strong character and so he is my favorite.
While I did not care for some of the repeated attitude that Jia and Cees pulled on each other near the beginning of the book. As I got closer to the end….I more than understood what made each of them act that way. I thought it was immaturity, which turned me off, but it wasn’t. So I was impressed instead.
A great dystopian book with a nice meaning behind the story.
