Summer.Six years ago, my life was a mess. I never wanted to fall in love again, so I developed a “guys suck” attitude. It saved me.Everything was fine until I met this unrealistically hot tutor with a weird name. He made me feel too much.So I ran, and never looked back. Now, I’m back in school, trying not to flunk out again, and according to my mother, my life has no meaning.I hate to admit this, … meaning.
I hate to admit this, but she’s right.
Undecided isn’t only my major, it’s the hashtag of my boring life. Maybe that’s why I agree to pick up Max when my mom’s client calls begging for some help, but that’s not why I agree to keep coming back.
Imagine my surprise when the sweet dad with the adorable son turns out to be the tutor I ran out on.

Summer and Haruki is a true growing up story and love story in one. Summer was a young black teenager that was bullied by some peers that she trusted and let that negative incident keep her down. Not only was hiding that incident but her mother was also a negative influence on her by degrading her self worth but she always talked negatively about everyone. When Summer met Haruki she left a lasting memory that He was unable to forget. So later on when she meets him and his son, she is unable to fight her feeling for him. Haruki is trying to be a better man and father and Summer allows him to be vulnerable, more in touch with his feelings and opening himself to love and family. He does the same for her in that he doesn’t make her run away, she faces her problems head first, he doesn’t let her lash out and say negative things about herself or people he uplifts her and pushes her to really go after the things she wants in life. This book has so many deep and emotional scenes that I can’t wait for the next installment.

This is book 1 of a duet. I really enjoyed it and i really also enjoyed book 2. I recommend you read them in order. They’re different, entertaining and unforgettable.
This book was fantastic. This is the first book I’ve read by author Laine Watson but I look forward to reading more in the future. This book told the story of Haruki Arima and Summer Vaughn. Neither Haruki or Summer have ever experienced love before. They are complete opposites. They have explosive chemistry. Their relationship evolves eventually from enemies to friends to lovers. Kudos to Laine for sharing this treasure with us. I highly recommend.
Such s character building insight. There is some serious emotional problems that need to be worked through and I can’t wait to see where these characters end up. Can’t wait for him two
I really enjoyed reading Haruki by Lanie Watson because it was a good book. Summer really has been messed up by her mom in the way she thinks about men. During high school, Summer was bullied. She feel behind in her studies and needed to get tutored. She met Haruki who was going to tutor her but she was really mean to him and she left. Sometimes fate has a way of intervening and she meets Haruki again. Haruki had to grow up really quick. He found out he had a son. Summer and Haruki are as different as night and day, but there is something between them. I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest opinion. I liked this book. It has drama, steamy romance and the possibility for a happy ending for all.
Laine Watson has a way about her writing that is emotionally on point! There were many times where I felt a connection to Summer. I felt bad for Haruki because of his mentality on life. However, I do have a love/hate feelings towards both Summer and Haruki. I am not a huge fan of whining or the wishy washy of a character and Summer is that in all ways. I love how she tries to be strong but I feel that she still has a teenager mentality of life and she cannot move on from her past. It should have made her stronger but I feel that she allowed it to debilitate her in some ways. You would think that after she choose to be mean she would have learned more about guys but that is not the case. Haruki, I felt bad for him up until a certain point. I am still on the fence about him. The dynamic of these two characters is up and down but relatable in some ways. I love Max without a doubt. I cannot wait to see what happens in the next book.
***This is an advanced readers copy.***
Captivating, intriguing connection romance story. The characters are intriguing. The well-written book kept my attention throughout, enjoyed reading. I have voluntarily chosen to read and review this book.
An enjoyable read that started off slow. A good story line. Both characters developed more growth and maturity as the story evolved. Can’t wait to see what’s happening in part 2.
Summer a sweet, trusting girl changed to disturbed teen by cruelty and bullying at school.
She didn’t have to much support from parents. She didn’t have idea about single, plain process in life, teenager stuff.
Now she is totally isolating herself.
Haruki Arima is her tutor in college courses. Bad choices in friends made her marks dropped significantly.
Gosh, she was nasty to him but inside she despises herself.
Fate brings them together . He is a single parent to a child with some disability, and Summer mother is little boy psychologist.
The chemistry and pull between Summer and Haruki is too strong to ignore. They try to find a place in life where they can be happy and accepted.
Let me tell you something about dear Mother, she is something else. I hated her character from start to finish! How she can treated patients is below my understanding.
What happens next in this story?

Summer Vaughn was a sweet, trusting girl once upon a time, but cruelty and bullying changed that. She only wanted to be wanted, to be lived. Now she’s not about to let anyone or anything get close to her. She meets Haruki Arima as a tutor in college and he makes her think maybe life could be different, but fear makes her lash out instead. Fate brings them together again and the chemistry and pull between these two characters is too strong to ignore.I really enjoyed the journey these two characters take to find a place where they feel that they belong. Summer’s mother is a piece of work! I hated her character from start to finish! I look forward to seeing what happens next in this duet!I recommend this book to readers who enjoy young adult romance, or second chance stories.
This is the 1st book I’ve read written by Laine Watson; she has done a great job at writing a good book; I can’t wait to read more of her books.
The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.
I loved the chemistry between the characters.

This was an enjoyable read. This story has an interesting storyline, very well written, had engaging characters with undeniable chemistry. I recommend this book and hope you’ll pick it up for yourself.
This is the story of Summer and Haruki. This isn’t your insta connection story but a more natural build up to a relationship. They both have issues to overcome and it’s good to see how they deal with it. I look forward to see what else comes their way and how they handle it. I enjoyed this book from beginning to end. It was great having characters that are well developed and engaging and have plenty of chemistry. The flow of the storyline was steady and smooth.

I have a love hate relationship with this book the writing is good the story is intense but I had a hard time liking Haruki he started out with possibility then he dose something stupid and acts really dumb i was both sad for Summer and really frustrated with her character I hope in the next book she will finally find a sence of herself and not ler her mother walk all over her. Summers mother this woman is pure poison only concerned with herself and how she can demean her child.
Summer and Haruki meet early on after Summer has suffered a trauma they dont get along well and dont see each other until years later after Haruki takes his soon to speach therapy. Summers mom is his therapist. They start to talk again both of them have changed Haruki has become harsher and Summer has settled down but she still lacks confidence. All I can say is read the book the writing is well done and its not a simple love story its harsh and not everyone will find it there type of story. Its a work in progress with the relationship between Haruki and Summer.

The storyline was good and the characters were interesting enough to keep my attention throughout the entire book!
Pretty good book. There was some parts that I thought was slow but overall it was good. I hated how Summers mother talked to her. I was happy to see that Summer stood up to her mother finally. It broke my heart that Summer was bullied in school. I can’t wait to read the next book.
Haruki is book one in the Haruki Arima Duet series by Laine Watson. This story was okay. It started rather slow. I absolutely hated the heroine Summer. She is so antagonistic that it is hard to like her. She’s been bullied by fellow students and so she chooses to react with bitterness and hate through the first few chapters. She comes across so witchy that it is difficult to press through. Fortunately, she does seem to mature some as the story progresses. I liked Haruki in the beginning of the story. “Right away, I feel embarrassed because I notice too many details about him, like the blackness of his messy hair, which falls just past the nape of his neck and rounds his face, hiding his eyebrows and some of his eyes. It waves a little and almost curls where the tips have a hint of brown. I gulp when he looks up at me…” The most endearing character is Haruki’s son Max. He is absolutely adorable and I was instantly drawn to his character. I grew weary of the repeated oral sex scenes. They just felt like a shallow alternative to deeper dialogue. Overall, this book was ok.
