New York Times bestselling author, K. Bromberg, brings you a romance about love, forgiveness, and living every day to the fullest. I know finding and signing a military vet to the agency is a long shot–but it’ll be good press just letting him try out. That’s what I tell my family, rather than admit I can’t get the letter he wrote us five years ago out of my head. But what I tell the bartender … of my head.
But what I tell the bartender in his hometown is a lie. I know veterans protect each other. So I pretend to be a graduate student.
Sparks. Flame. Fire. I accidentally got in too deep.
I didn’t expect to develop feelings for Gunner Camden.
And there’s no way I can admit to my lies now, not without destroying what we share. So I’ll keep faking it.

There are two versions of me: before, and after deployment.
Back then I was a screwup kid. I’d lie, cheat, and steal my way out of everything. My only love was baseball.
After I started fighting, I found out there had been another path for me. One that involved my dream. But by then I had seen too much.
The old me was dead, so I put my dreams to rest, too.
Then Chase Kinkade walks into my bar and reminds me that life is meant to live. No regrets.
Fresh. Happy. Hopeful. I can start to see a new dream, with her.
But sometimes things are too good to be true… and dishonesty is the one thing I can’t forgive.
Are you ready to fall for the Kincade sisters and then men who love them in K. Bromberg’s sexy, contemporary, sports romance series? These books can all be read as standalones, but you’ll enjoy reading them as a series!

This is a fabulous, romantic book! I was drawn in and delighted by it. The nobility, loyalty and empathy of Gunner makes him one of the most engaging heroes I have encountered in quite some time. Chase is loving, but guarded. Having sisters who love, but nag, she keeps her feelings hidden.
With a great plot line, cast of characters and the deeply important issue of caring for the partners and children of fallen warriors, make this a book which completely won me over. I found myself wanting an HEA for Nix too!!
It was fabulous to have the forth Kincaid sister find happiness and we now have the tantalising prospect of Finn’s story! How fantastic is that?
I’ve been obsessed with this series from the moment I read the first book but I think Chase and Gunner top my list (so far, because I’m super excited for the next book). Chase and Gunner’s story is heartbreaking and beautiful as they grow and change after meeting each other and realizing what they want from life.
Gunner’s story is emotionally hard to read because he didn’t catch a break in life, every time life is going right for him its ripped away and he is left picking up the peices. However, Gunner handles what life dealt to him with humility and grace so much so, it’s so easy to see how Chase developed feelings for him so easily. Chase lives her life so confidently that seeing her shook up after meeting Gunner was so good. She deserves the world even if she doesn’t think she needed it. I loved Chase’s interactions with her sisters and how much she wanted their life while not wanting it at all. Chase and Gunner’s story was amazing and I’ll be so sad when this series is over!!
Oh my god Miss Bromberg broke my heart and put it back together, I was so enamored with this story that I read in 4 hours, I just couldn’t put it down! I wanted to reach into the book and hug both characters, I think this is my favorite out of the 4 sisters for sure!
Once again another amazing 5+ star read, Hard to Lose just might be my favorite of the series from K. Bromberg
Chase, the youngest Kincaid sister is on a mission to find Ryan (Gunnar) Camden, the former baseball player turned military man. Chase came across a letter from Gunnar that was sent to her father years ago when he first joined the military. Their attraction with instant, Gunnar is such a sweet broken soul and Chase may just be the one to see his worth. Their chemistry off the charts hot, their journey with one another will give all kinds of warm feelings.
The relationship between Chase and Gunnar is romantic, angst filled with lots chemistry and heat. Be prepared for an emotional roller coaster of emotions as these find their HEA.
I think I’m broken. Gunner just may have broken me for any other book boyfriend. Seriously, K. Bromberg, how do you do it? How do you keep giving us these men who are so devastatingly perfect?
Chase and Gunner’s story is incredible! Fate had a hand in their journey. From the moment Chase and Gunner met, they clicked. The flirty banter was one of my favorite parts of this book and let me tell you, Gunner was really good at flirting. I’m so smitten with him. Gunner just made everyone around him a better person. He truly just made my heart so full. I loved seeing the transformation in Chase! She stopped and appreciated the little things in life. I find myself now wanting to dance in the rain! Watching Chase help Gunner heal was beautiful!
I legit am still all up in my feels after reading Hard to Lose! It was just a beautiful story all the way around!
Wow! I was blown away by this story and by this author’s words. I haven’t been this totally touched and consumed by a story before. The emotions that gripped me the whole way through this book are what really made this book special. And God was it special. The subject that was chosen was handled with such beautiful and touching care. Not only did I cried hard reading this book, but I also laughed and smiled loud and wide.
Gunner and Chase were unexpected for each other. Even though Chase went looking for the man, a soldier called Ryan sent a letter, that was lost for so long. She never knew that what she would find would be so much more and so special. Gunner for me was such a special man. He was dealt with such a bad hand, well more than one it’s like cards were continuously bad. He has guilt that he couldn’t run from. But the day Chase walked into his bar, he had no idea his life would change forever.
There is so much that I could say and tell you all but that would ruin the story. And to this point, I haven’t said a word that would do so. Go into this book blind but an open heart and mind. And with the knowledge that you will love it. This the first book I’ve read by this author. I’ve read this book as a standalone but I will go back and read the sister’s stories. This book is a huge and total recommendation from me.

What happens when you pair together a driven, successful businesswoman and a wounded soldier harboring a mountain of guilt? You get a heart-wrenching, steamy, inspiring story with a thread of deception that threatens one of the most rewarding journeys to forever I’ve read to date.
Chase Kincade didn’t set out to be dishonest. She’s looking for the baseball player turned military man whose long-delayed letter to her family’s sports agency refuses to leave her mind. She also didn’t anticipate small-town bar owner, Gunner, or the fact that she could far too easily fall for the handsome, tortured warrior.
Oh my heart, I wish I could know Gunner in real life! He’s a hero who carries the ghosts of his brothers in arms and has dedicated his life to make up for failing to save them. It’s not only the scars that show externally, but those that cover his heart, and he does everything he can for his military brothers in their small town and the children whose lives have been irrevocably changed by the horrors of battle.
I’ve loved every book in this series, but this is easily my favorite, with tragically flawed characters who easily own my soul. I always love characters who are relationship opposed, because it’s such a delight to watch them fall! This is one of those books I wish I had time to read a hundred times so I could keep these beloved characters as alive in my heart ten years from now as they are today.
This romance is clever and witty, but it hit me with wave after wave of every emotion possible. If you’re looking for a romance that hits all the right notes and gives your heart the most exquisite workout, hustle over to that 1-Click and start reading today. It will be one of your most poignant, touching, uplifting, and unforgettable reads this year!
I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads, so here is my review.
Chase Kincade is the youngest sister of the Kincade girls and this is her story. When the agency receives a letter from Ryan Camden, a baseball star, five years after it was sent. She feels she needs to see him and tell him that he was seen, not forgotten. She was curious about him, she wanted to know what had become of him too.
Ryan was on his way to becoming Mr. Baseball until his stepfather changed his direction. After his life in the military, all Ryan wanted to do was run his bar and help those kids less fortunate. He never thought those letters he wrote while in the service would come back to him.
Chase and Gunner hit it off from the moment they met, she didn’t know who he was and he didn’t know why she was in his bar. As they spend time together, the feelings are growing stronger and stronger. But for two people who don’t believe in love, these two are meant to be together.
As time goes by, Chase can not tell Gunner the truth because it will destroy him to know that she was there for him and that she lied to him from the start. Will Gunner be able to trust her after he learns the truth? Can Chase trust herself to not lose herself when the truth is revealed?
I have loved each of these sisters but I think Chase and Gunner are my favorite. They have a love that was made from the start and grew even when they were apart. This story will break your heart but the author will put it back together and make you love this story, even more, I promise. I hope you enjoy this series as much as I have loved them.
**Wicked Reads Review Team**
Gunner is by far my favorite in this whole series. A decorated war hero with survivors guilt thinks he can’t have what he has always wanted. Chase arrives in town with a mission at hand and unexpectedly ends up running into Gunner. Sparks fly and what is supposed to be a little fun between the sheets ends up being her unexpected.
There is absolutely no way to get thru even part of this book, without falling head over heels for Gunner. This guy, this book just tore my heart open for all the things he didn’t get a chance to accomplish, for all the things taken from him. Chase is so goal focused, a small town is exactly what this girl needed, Gunner is exactly what she needed. Amazingly addictive read, once I started there was no way i was putting it down until i was finished.
When a letter from a soldier falls into Chase Kincaid’s hands she immediately feels a connection. A connection so strong she needs to find this man and bring some of what he lost back to him in one way or another. But in order to find the once aspiring baseball player, she needs to travel to a small military town under false pretenses in order to locate him. Sparks immediately fly between Chase and the bartender at the local bar. Thinking he will help her locate the pitcher she continues to fabricate the reason she is there. But when the lost soul ends up being right in front of her will the lies she has already established come back and bite her? Will Gunner give her the time of day once he realizes the truth? With a instant need for all involved to get their HEA’s this was one of those books you could not put down. K. Bromberg once again captivates her readers and holds tight to their heartstrings. Best book in the series yet!!
Hard To Put Down
This is my very first read from Ms. Bromberg but definitely not my last. I am very lucky to received an early copy of this ebook. Although this is the fourth book of The Play Hard series, it can be read as a standalone. This book didn’t spoil it for me not reading the previous books, instead it made me want to read the other books in the series. I want to know more about the strong Kincade women Dekker, Lennox and Brexton’s love stories.
This is a well-written book by Ms. Bromberg and has everything I want in a love story. A hot military hero with a heart of gold and a sexy, smart, strong heroine. Both have undeniable attraction with each other on the onset and the flirting exchanges between the two were such a delight to read. This book gave me all the feels from laughed out loud moment with Heloisa but also heart-tugging moments that left me teary-eyed.
Overall a must read and I’m looking forward to the audiobook when it’s release.
I loved loved loved this book!!! This has been my favorite in this series so far! This book will have you feeling all the feels! I absolutely loved Gunner! He was perfect for Chase. This book captured my attention right away! There was no long drawn out unnecessary drama. I hope Nix gets a book, I would love his story! I will also be happy to see if Finn can redeem himself! I’m super excited for that book! The books in this series are true standalones. However this series is soooo good I recommend them all!!
Received a arc for a honest review.
How can a white lie turn something that started with the best of intentions into an epic disaster? And, can you forgive someone for deceiving you? This is the essence of Chase and Gunner’s story.
Get ready for an emotional story. Gunner’s backstory will break your heart. How he’s moved on from it will uplift and warm your heart. It is quickly apparent why Chase is so captivated by Gunner and everything about his situation. This amazing, sweet, sexy, selfless man isn’t easily forgotten.
For Chase and Gunner, their two broken halves make an incredible whole. They connect over their loss of a parent at an early age, and they understand each other. They fall quickly, and realistically, into lust and then love. Gunner sees the emotional scars that Chase hides from everyone, including her family, and he instinctively knows how to help her heal them. Chase is the only person that Gunner has shown both his physical and emotional scars. They just work and bring out the best in each other. I loved that their story unfolds with angst and drama only where appropriate so that you can simply enjoy the two falling in love unexpectedly, living with no regrets.
The double epilogues are a wonderful and fitting ending to the Kincade sisters’ portion of the series! Note, their nemesis Finn is up next to close out the series.
Chase and Gunner’s story is special, heartwarming, romantic, and definitely one not to be missed!
I received an early copy of this book. This voluntary review contains my honest, unbiased opinion.
I’m never disappointed when it comes to K. Bromberg and this series. She always delivers with a great story with wonderful characters. We get Chase’s story, the youngest Kincade sister, and her journey. She’s feisty, ambitious, determined, and full of passion. The story that develops between Chase and Gunner was full of spunk, wit, and definitely passion. It did not disappoint.
K. Bromberg did a fabulous job with creating chemistry between these two characters in a small amount of time without it feeling like insta-love. The military aspect of this novel takes more precedence than the sports theme which seems fitting with Gunner’s back story.
If you want a feel good story, great writing, sexy and witty banter, and a book full of spunk; look no farther. You’ve found it!

I am absolutely loving this series by K. Bromberg. The constant throughout is the Kincade family and I have grown rather fond of Kenyon and his daughters. They are exactly how I believe a family unit should be – they love each other dearly; have the utmost respect for each other; they support each other and are there during the good times and the bad. This fourth book is Chase’s story – the baby of the family – and it has become my favourite of the series.
YOU MUST READ THIS!! This story brought out all the feels. The emotions that I experienced whilst reading Chase and Gunner’s journey are exactly what I want to be feeling. I dare you not to shed any tears during those scenes when were learn of Gunner’s time in the military and how this has affected him. I dare your heart not to break when with the partners, children and friends of those who have gone to serve their country and have not returned from war. It’s not all heartache though. You will laugh and smile during the fun dates that Gunner takes Chase on. You’ll fall in love with the idea of this couple breaking down their barriers and accepting that they are destined to be together. Then there is the angst that you will feel when you anticipate that things aren’t always going to be rosy for the couple and are waiting for the inevitable to happen.
I absolutely loved this couple together. Their connection, the chemistry and their interactions were incredible to witness. I loved seeing the change in Chase from being the focused business woman who always had an agenda to follow and a competitiveness that rivalled no other, to a young lady who allowed someone into her heart and fell in love. I cannot wait for you to meet Gunner – he is going to steal your heart! He is someone who we should all be striving to be. Humble, kind, caring and selfless are only a few adjectives that I could list to describe him. Add that he is swoon worthy and has passion for everything he cares about – as well as being a hottie – and he is the perfect package.
I want to shout from the rooftops everything I loved about this incredible story. It is one of those stories that you won’t be able to put down until you have reached the very end. I can’t not mention that epilogue – what a way to close the Kinkade sisters’ part of the series. I am aware that Finn Sanderson’s own story will be coming later this year and I’m excited to read this. We all have our own opinions about him but I noticed glimpses of the man I hope to find, whilst reading Hard to Lose and Hard to Score. Seeing as there is much history and rivalry between Finn and the Kinkade family, I expect we shall still get our fix of Kenyon and his girls in Hard to Love.
I was lucky enough to receive an ARC to this fourth book in the Play Hard series which can also be read as a Standalone, thanks to Valentine PR in exchange for a spoiler free honest review.
I was addicted to this small town romance story from the first chapter. This story follows the fourth (and youngest) Kinkade sister; Chase, on her adventure into finding her person. In enters Gunner, an ex-baseball player who was forced into deployment rather than following his dream of becoming a professional baseball player. Since his deployment has ended, he has escaped to the small town of Destiny Falls, where many other soldiers return to settle down. This town also has many families who are currently waiting for their father to return home from deployment, bringing in a sense of being for Gunner as he tutors and guides young children who have lost a dad or whose dad has not been around for quite some time.
I adored Gunner. He had me straight away with his huge heart. He has so much guilt for being alive when some of his friends did not make him home, and he turns that guilt into love. He was the perfect gentleman for Chase. He proved to Chase that there are decent men out there and he gave Chase the love and attention she more than deserved. I say more than deserved because Chase keeps a huge secret from Gunner for a good 80% of the book AND IT GOT ANNOYING! JUST TELL HIM GOSH DAMMIT!
And with that, that is why I had to take a star. Chase has plenty of opportunities to be real with him, especially when he is real and raw towards her so many times. It was frustrating to read and I did have to put my kindle down for a break from it. But all in all, I still adored this story of love, hope and freedom, and do recommend it for an emotional but easy romance read on a Sunday afternoon.
Be warned Hard to Lose is insanely romantic and you will fall head over heels in love with Gunner and Chase!
I had thought that Lennox Kincade was the sister for me but that was before I met the youngest of the four. We find Chase in Hard to Lose taking on the challenge of drumming up some feel-good PR in the news and on social media for Kincade Sports. Could the long-lost letter from Ryan Camden who may have been the next best thing in baseball be the feel-good story she is looking for? What happened to him and why did his life change so drastically? Off she goes to Destiny Falls and finds herself up close and personal with Gunner…..just Gunner with his boyish grin and flirty banter, delectable lips, and love of pie. How can she resist? A little distraction won’t hurt, will it? A little innocent flirty fun to pass the time is what her sisters are always telling her to have and so she does. The connection between these two is instant and as they spend time together you find yourself smiling and sighing and smiling some more. Gunner is a good guy, too good to be true? Maybe, but he is everything we love and want in our romantic leads. Chase finds herself enjoying her time with him, falling for him, and regretting not being upfront about why she is in Destiny Falls and who she is looking for. Of course, we all know that when you tell a lie it’s just waiting patiently to bite you back, and unfortunately just as Chase and Gunner seem to have found in each other what they have been looking for it all falls apart. Yep it’s a FUBAR and your heart is in your mouth and you’re crying NO!!!! Until you’re not. Although it’s not a rom-com it has the feel of one and is light with just enough drama to not make it feel heavy. It’s such a feel-good read and did I mention it’s so romantic and the kissing……good heavens it’s off the charts…..big big sighs.
Sweet, sincere and so incredibly touching, Hard to Lose brings all the feels.
After reading the previous books in this series, I thought I knew what I was getting into. But Hard to Lose isn’t actually a sports romance. It’s a heart breaking military romance that will shatter your heart while restoring your faith in humanity. I was completely taken with this story.
Gunner is the best person to ever exist, and one of my favorite characters of all time. His story pierced my heart and touched my soul.
This book made me hurt in the best kind of way and I love every second of this incredible read.
5 stars and a letter
There are not enough words for this one. The emotions, the tears of sadness, the tears of joy. Chase and Gunner were made for each other. He was filled with survivors guilt from his time in the military and Chase was hurt by love before and throws herself in her job so as not to think about love and relationships anymore. Their relationship taught them to heal and to now accept what life was giving them. Chase went in search of Ryan Camden because she felt something when she read his letter that he wrote to her dad years ago. She went to find him for her own selfish reasons and to help her company. What she found was so unexpected and so different. Ryan, who was Gunner even though she did not know, was a hard-working, caring, generous man unlike the boy she heard about before he enlisted into the military. That boy was a troubled boy getting himself into trouble. The man she found is a total opposite. Being with Gunner Chase began to see what love was all about. Sometimes when we don’t go looking for love it finds us unexpectantly.
Gunner’s past will bring tears to your eyes and make you feel so proud of the man he has become despite his upbringing. The abuse of his stepfather broke my heart. This story will make you cry but so worth every word. A love story like no other and one that will keep you going until the final word. There aren’t enough stars for this one. A story that will be impossible to put down.
