This is a great book for anyone interested in working and traveling around the world. The advice provided by the author helped me find an online marketing job that allows me to work and travel as a digital nomad!
Global Career was a really great read and I found it to be extremely inspirational and practical. There is a perfect mix of actionable advice for working remotely or finding international jobs and a good combination of travel tips from the author which will all be useful for me to transition to a full time digital nomad!
This book is filled with good information about travel in general. I wish it was written around 30 years ago as it would have been an even greater help to me.
As a retired reference librarian who has always loved to travel, I wish I had known this information in my twenties! Author gives precise and practical instructions on how to “live the dream” AND get paid for it. He should know—he’s doing it now!
Quick read with very practical advice for those looking to work and travel simultaneously. Really enjoyed it.
I have traveled the globe extensively and thought I was well informed until Michael put me in my place. I purchased this book for all of my college grad children as a must-read. My only regret is that all my kids may decide to move overseas now and prevent me from seeing them on a regular basis. I wish I could have read this book 30 years ago. It certainly would have changed my life.
I am struck with this book’s accomplishment in melding and integrating myriad related and interdependent background information and detail guidance into such an engaging read. I worked overseas nearly 10 years in non-English speaking countries. And in contrast to alternate ‘How-To’ guides delving into international opportunities and rewards, this work succeeded in delivering an engaging page-turner combining accurate, reliable information with bonafide personal insight and directly applicable experience.
In the space of a ‘short 200 pages’ the reader is offered valuable info on navigating mechanics, logistics and procedures of international interning, travel and livelihood. At the same time, I couldn’t help appreciating effective presentation of critical characteristics encompassing flexibility, tolerance, patience and propriety as key to enjoyment, fulfillment – and ultimate success out there.
It’s funny this book will either corroborate and reinforce one’s similar perspectives and experience, or prompt resolve and continued research toward that first expat journey, or create sparks and compel personal enrichment through travel and exposure to different cultures.
If you’ve ever thought about studying or working abroad, this book is jam-packed full of personal experiences, information, and tips about how to do so. The author has lived and worked all over the globe, and this book is a distillation of all that he has learned. He does give some straight-up facts as well as share his personal experiences. I think this book would be particularly helpful for people under 30, as there are far more options for younger people to live and work abroad. The United States has reciprocal agreements with several countries for working holiday visas. But the author does give some other pointers that could apply for people who are north of 30, including how to work for an American company remotely. The book is laid out well. The first chapters deal with studying, interning, and working abroad. Further chapters explore working abroad in more depth, like the visas needed, their requirements and costs. The book ends with chapters on how to live as an expat and traveling tips. All in all, if this is something you are considering, this book will make the possibilities seem more real and point you in the right directions if it is something that truly interests you.

Very inspirational and life-changing! This book touches the reality of life where in when you travel abroad you get to meet people, yes, exciting but challenging at the same time because of language and cultural barriers and some other factors to consider when moving in. Michael wants everyone to know especially those who travel abroad or work abroad and even those who are planning to go abroad that indeed it may be challenging at the first but as you move along life gets easier.
Great tips and real life hacks on how to overcome challenges when you are in other countries weather you’ll visit to travel or to work or both. As I was reading the book, I felt that, nothing really comes easy at first, but if you like what you do, and you have the passion, you’ll be able to get through.
