Folksy and fresh, endearing and affecting, Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe is a now-classic novel about two women: Evelyn, who’s in the sad slump of middle age, and gray-headed Mrs. Threadgoode, who’s telling her life story. Her tale includes two more women—the irrepressibly daredevilish tomboy Idgie and her friend Ruth—who back in the thirties ran a little place in Whistle Stop, … Whistle Stop, Alabama, offering good coffee, southern barbecue, and all kinds of love and laughter—even an occasional murder. And as the past unfolds, the present will never be quite the same again.

I love this book. The story made me feel like I was right there with the characters.
I read this book years ago, and enjoyed it so much that I purchased the ebook. The characters are memorable, and you feel connected to them. It’s the kind of book in which you get lost. You just can’t stop thinking about it. I would highly recommend it.
Of course this was my 2nd read of this book, but one I just had to re-visit again. The film follows this tale very closely, and of course I appreciate the recipes at the end too! Well written and a well placed bookmark of a very different period in time for many! ( Of course we all know what was in the Barbecue! ) I may go back and read it a 3rd …

Loved this book every time I read it – and that’s at least half a dozen times now.
Absolutely one of the best books I’ve ever read. Lighthearted and fun. Don’t miss!
I grew up in Alabama. This book is set in the authentic south I remember.
It was very good. Was sad when I was finished, I wanted more!
Absolutely loved this book! One of my all-time favorite movies, but the book is so much better!!! Love all the different twists and turns with the characters and situations that differ from the movie – the book is waaaay better. Especially like knowing the characters thoughts – truly adds so much to an already entertaining story. This one will …
