Grace Brennan isn’t a “new” author for me. I’ve read her books before. I liked those books. So to say I was excited to read her newest book ‘Finding Faith: Return of the Dragons Book One’ is putting it mildly. Let me tell you a little bit about it…let’s take a walk.
I have to say this walk is going to take us on the wild side. Not the crazy, dizzy fa-shizzle kind. More like the ‘this isn’t your normal path’ kind. You know what I’m talking about. That new route that you’ve been thinking of taking but never taken the leap. It’s a good walk. You’ll find lots of interesting and gotta say weird things along the way but the walk is enjoyable. There are times where you wonder how you got on this path and it’s not entirely clear but you keep going…
Olivia and Cody are the path. There are times in the story that you want a little more background but your imagination is there to help. Olivia is strong – heck she’s a freakin’ dragon! Scales, sharp talons, and fire breathing aside, you can tell she has a deep strength inside. But she’s also vulnerable. She’s been through a lot and she’s finding it hard to pull on that strength. To deal with the hand she’s been dealt. To move on.
Cody carries around a lot of baggage. The death of his parents. Being the leader of his group and dealing with his persnickety grandfather who wants him to uphold the old ways. Meeting Olivia and the instant pull between them wasn’t something he expected. But the path isn’t always well lit and can sometimes hide surprises.
Ms. Brennan does a great job with this book. With well-written characters and a good story ‘Finding Faith’ is an enjoyable read. The only wish I would have is more details. Details about the dragon world and how they lived in hiding. Details on Cody’s group and why they ended up in the small town of New Leaf.
I enjoyed immersing myself in this new series. And having read Ms. Brennan’s previous series I was able to glean a little more insight into some of my questions. But overall ‘Finding Faith’ was a sweet book and I look forward to getting to know the sub-characters better in upcoming books. If you are looking for a book to “whisk you away’ during this time, pick up this book.
** spoiler alert ** Olivia is tired of her fears holding her back. Cody is tired of having others tell him how to live. The heart wants what it wants. Will Olivia be ready to move forward? Will Cody realize he isn’t the monster that he thinks?
Loved these two! I loved how Cody was determined to not give in and was determined to stay loyal to his heart. I didn’t blame Olivia for being scared, but loved seeing her slowly shed her disguise and allow herself to fall. Great read and cannot wait for the next one in the series!
This is a sort of continuation of the Blood and Bone Enforcers series but one that features a group of minor characters from there. The dragons were looking for somewhere to heal and the move to New Leaf looked like the ideal place. Olivia meets the owner of a firm when they need someone to renovate their house but Cody isn’t your average human, in fact he’s not even an average shifter!
A great book which has set the scene for more romance and turmoil for the dragons, I’m looking forward to the rest of the series.
YES!! YES!! YES!!! Finally a book with unique, (OMG!! the author has an imagination!!) shifters. Oh, and yes, let’s add to that goodness with female dragon shifters all living in the same house. I can’t remember a time that I have read a book with just female dragons coming together, united in freedom and safety.
If you have read previous books written by Grace Brennan, specifically the Blood and Bone Enforcers, you will remember the terrible situation the female dragon shifters had been in. They are ready to begin again, but this time in a small town, New Leaf, Montana. A new leaf on life in a new state. It won’t be easy. For some of the girls it will be more difficult that for others. They still have to deal, and at the moment they have to deal with a home falling down around them.
Olivia, might not be brave, but she knows she needs help with fixing up the house. Everything changes when she enters Aaron Construction. She doesn’t know why but she feels something for Cody Aaron, hunky contractor. Making it more tingly is that Cody recognizes something as well.
I almost cheated and searched the book. There was something about Cody. I couldn’t guess it. Olivia couldn’t guess it. The emotions, the sensations were driving this reader and the character to frustration.
Holy Moly!!! The suspense was worth it. Hold on to your hat, the emotional ride is going to get crazy. The wait is so worth it. And in the end the suspense continues. Don’t get me wrong, the reader gets a happily ever after, but the threat continues. This time the dragons just might find the strength to fight back instead of cower to evil.
I can’t wait to find out. Bring on book Two. I am ready. I am waiting. I am giddy with anticipation.
The start of this new series brings the rescued dragons to a small town in Montana where they are trying to begin living life again. After everything they’ve been through, it’s no surprise that they all have a lot of emotional healing to do. Some of them are further along than others, and Olivia is one of them. After making the decision to not be afraid anymore and stop hiding, she goes into town where she meets Cody. Their attraction is instant, but they both have secrets and Olivia has to keep fighting off her fear while her instincts tell her to trust Cody. I loved how Cody was supportive while not pushing Olivia and ultimately helps her find her way back to herself. Talk about a twist with the type of shifter Cody turns out to be! I totally didn’t see that coming. I enjoyed seeing the dragons start to come out of their shells and can’t wait to see more of their individual personalities. I’m really excited for this series and am looking forward to seeing where it goes.
