Billy and Shayna gave me life! These two had the chemistry that I love to see in books. I loved the romance in this book and as usual, Laura Kaye brought the heat (which I’m always glad to see). This series keeps getting better and am so glad there is another book coming.
Private investigator Billy Parrish has had a rough time finding his place since his discharge from the army. He still carries guil for the brothers he lost. Warrior Fight Club helps keep him centered, but sometimes even that isn’t enough. Then his best friend Ryan asks a favor.
Shayna Curtis is running from her own demons, memories of the accident that killed her brother and the guilt that she carries. She’s ready to start over and is looking forward to starting her new job as a photojournalist. Thanks to Billy she’s got a place to stay while she settles in. From the moment she moves in the chemistry is strong. Billy wants her. She is a reminder of all he’s locked himself away from. But she’s his buddy’s kid sister. That makes her off limits, doesn’t it?
The second book in the Warrior Fight Club and Laura never disappoints. Two characters of Billy and Shayna that has more common than expected. Bond to meet and be together to be successful together than apart. A true love for sure.
I was quickly sucked into this book and didn’t want to put it down! The chemistry between Shayna and Billy was H-O-T-T! He shouldn’t like her because she’s his best friend’s sister. She shouldn’t like him because he’s her brother’s friend. Yeah, we know how that works, right!? I LOVED this story! These two people knew each other years ago but because of Billy’s friendship with Shayna’s brother, they are brought together because she’s moving to town. I enjoyed their first encounter with each other. While these two weren’t complete strangers, they had to learn about each other. And while they didn’t discuss it with others, they were both dealing with survivor’s guilt, which in turn, made them understand each other better than anyone else had before. Their friendship grew and I adored their banter. I wanted them to be together! This book gave me the feels and I thought Laura Kaye did a great job of capturing the struggle of PTSD and the guilt they felt over past trauma. I wasn’t ready for this book to be over… I want more Shayna and Billy! 🙂
Absolutely Wonderful! This series is OUTSTANDING! Love the way you get sucked into the characters, they are all well developed. Each one, has its own set of demons, wars and great qualities. In this book, we are faces with survivors guilt, what a powerful emotion. Everyone has their own way of dealing with it, until you are forced to reveal what is really eating you alive. With the quirky remarks and comebacks from Shayna, to the powerful looks from Billy, you feel everything these two are fighting for and against. Could not stop reading! AMAZING!!!
Billy and Shayna share two common bonds. Billy’s best friend is Shayna’s brother and they have known each since their teen years, (when Shayna developed a teen crush on Billy). Both of them suffer from survivor’s guilt that is threatening to eat them alive. Shayna has left her family behind to escape the guilt she feels when she looks at them. Billy has entered into the Warrior Fight Club in an attempt to fight through the demons that plague him.
When Shayna needs a place to stay, her brother talks Billy into offering her a temporary home. They definitely start off in a most interesting way that will have you anticipating the chemistry that is sure to explode between these two!
This book is a realistic look at the struggles with PTSD and survivor’s guilt that will fill you with such emotion, you can’t help but feel it for days. As an Army Mom, I feel this story gave me extra insights into the struggles our military men and women face every day.
Billy and Shayna’s story filled me with hope, love, tears and smiles…and quite a few LOL moments! And the chemistry between these two…SMOKING HOT!
Laura Kaye has done an amazing job with this friends to lovers story, giving the reader so many emotional experiences and an education in the world of survivor’s guilt. And, of course, our HEA ending! A MUST READ! Can’t wait for the next installment.
Wow! I am loving this new series from Laura Kaye.
In this, the second installment of her new, Warrior Fight Club series, we are treated to yet another beautifully broken Veteran who fights with his demons every day.
And we also get to meet a sweet but spunky woman who refuses to let her own fight with a past mistake completely break her.
Billy is sweeter than I expected him to be.
Yes, he struggles with anger and depression, but he has a good grip on it and doesn’t let it leak out onto the people around him.
It was good to read a book where the Hero wasn’t an a$$hat.
Shayna has her own ghosts she fights with on a daily basis. And I felt her pain. I think everyone has struggled with something that they wish they could go back and change.
Together, Billy and Shayna shine! It’s obvious from the first hilarious meeting that there’s something going on between these two.
Shayna’s idea of colorful language made me giggle and gave me a few new words to add to my vocabulary.
I flipped pages on my e reader quickly with this book. It’s so engaging, getting lost in the story is easy.
Though, I felt like the end was a bit rushed. Or maybe I just didn’t want the story to end.
Fighting For What’s His, is a sweet, sexy, touching story of two people who have to learn how to trust not only in themselves, but each other too.
Thank you Laura Kaye for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Billy Parrish has proven himself a warrior, from his time in the military to his current job as a private investigator; he’s fought the good fight every day of his life, but he now faces an even greater opponent – one who has the ability to capacitate him and send him spiraling OR heal him in ways he never thought possible. But in order for this to take place, Billy needs to get his demons at bay and whether his new roommate, Shayna Curtis, can help him in that process is unclear because while he is attracted to her and his body craves hers, his decision to remain in control and alone makes Shayna’s fight an uphill battle, but it’s one she’s willing to endure because it’s beyond clear that fighting their battles alone is no longer working, so making it a team effort seems like the best option…but that’s the thing about people’s past demons…sometimes, regardless of how much they could use the help, their old operating methods plague them, placing barriers and obstacles that must be endured for these two warriors to learn to fight for each other.
Billy Parrish has a rough exterior, which makes perfect sense due to his background and his time served, and it’s also understandable for him to keep his distance from people given his loss and what he’s endured. But it’s beyond clear that Shayna is going to be one heck of a problem for Billy, not only because they’re forced into this ‘roommate’ situation, but also because their attraction is instantaneous and fending off their desires and feelings for each other just makes things that much more complicated.
It’s interesting to see how Billy and Shayna interact with one another when she first moves in; the sexual tension between them slowly builds each day they’re around each other, and while they both have every intention to stay away from the other, forcing them to temper their desires, it’s impossible for them to do so and once that barrier is tore down, what comes next will either heal their wounds or force further torment and devastation.
Fighting For What’s His illustrates that support and comfort can be found in many places…that trying to control feelings that just might heal one’s soul is futile. Billy found a way to cope with his past by pushing himself and his body at the Warrior Fight Club, and while he never thought he would find solace and peace with a woman when a certain woman enters his life – one that finds a way into his heart, the risks may multiply but so does the chance at happiness and once Billy realizes that, he’s willing to fight to claim Shayna regardless of what or who tries to thwart his attempts.
I’m a huge fan of Laura Kaye’s storytelling and her characters are always dynamically diverse; every story she writes is one that resonates with her readers, even in small ways, and allow us to escape into the world of protective men and the women who love them regardless of the scars of their past. Her Warrior Fight Club series, just like the other series that I’ve read, is a collection of fast-paced, suspenseful and steamy reads, and I can’t wait for Sean Riddick’s book!
4.5 Poison Apples
Billy and Shay were SMOKIN HOT! OMG, I think Laura Kaye left my mouth hanging open at one scene (you will KNOW what I am talking about when you read it…LIKE OMG!). The connection between the two main characters, who are both holding onto so much guilt, is a connection we all want to feel when we meet the person who see’s inside of us and doesn’t look away! Laura Kaye is the queen of combustible chemistry and insane sexual tension, among the incredible male friendships that she writes that are so realistic and have you wanting to jump right to the next book in the series because you are so in love with this new family of characters. I didn’t think I could love a “man crew” more than the Hard Ink guys but the WFC is giving them a run for their money! Keep em coming LK, I am LOVING this new crew of friends and watching them find love makes my heart happy!
I have to say that I have enjoyed pretty much everything by this author to some degree, so I was beyond excited to settle in to read this story! It was a fast-paced read, but a very well written one!
My chief complaint about it was that everything felt rushed in the story. There’s very little background on Billy or Shayna’s pasts, so we’re forced to take them as they are. They fall for each other very quickly, but fight the attraction because they’re not “supposed to” like each other. It fell a little like the insta-love trope, but with a few twists, which turned a hated trope for me into an enjoyable read.
That being said, I really loved Shayna! I thought she was a great character overall, very intriguing and engaging, as well as being very easy to connect with! I thought Billy was a good match for her romantically, and did enjoy watching them navigate their way to each other.
All things considered, this was a quick, easy, and engaging read that I thoroughly enjoyed!
Forbidden attraction! With the second book in the Warrior Fight Club series, we get a sexy take on a best friend’s sister/friends to lovers story line. Both main characters have heartache and issues holding them back, but together they seem to make a little more sense out of life. They are a fun couple to get to know, and I enjoyed their story. The ending was really abrupt and I felt like some of her story was left hanging, but overall it was a good read.
Private investigator Billy Parrish has to keep himself busy in order to keep his demons at bay. He works hard, plays hard and fights hard! The Warrior Fight Club for struggling vets that he attends is all that’s kept him sane these last few years, so it’s always high on his list of priorities. When an Army Ranger buddy calls him up wanting a favor, he’s not one to refuse … even if it puts him in such an awkward position!
Shayna Curtis is relocating to DC and her brother has hooked her up with a place to stay until she gets on her feet with a place of her own. Only problem is, it’s with the guy she’s been crushing on since she was in high school! Shayna has her own set of struggles she’s trying to get through, so meeting someone that seems to have his head on straight for a change is good for her … but when the lack of communication sends them both spiraling, will they be able to correct the free fall before it’s too late?

Fighting For What’s His is the second title in the Warrior Fight Club Series. This is a title with strong themes of family and friendship told in a dual point of view.
Billy is a former Army Ranger, who suffers PTSD as an after effect of being injured whilst deployed in a war torn country. After being discharged from the Army, he’s lost his purpose, and the Warrior Fight Club is his saving grace, and gives him strong friendship with others who are suffering as well. When his best friend asks him to loan out his spare room to his younger sister, who knew it would change his life.
Shayna is enigmatic, whilst she’s confident, strong willed, passionate and independent, it hides a deep seated vulnerability. I loved that she is so kind, caring and compassionate.
Both characters are well developed, complex and endearing, yet flawed and dealing with the events of their past. They are both stubborn and suffer from guilt, shame and regret.
I loved the banter this pair share it’s fun, sassy, flirtatious and whilst at times full of emotion there are also moments of humour. Although their connection and chemistry is undeniable, they both do their best to deny their budding feelings, and create a lovely friendship.
If you enjoy an emotional and passionate romance Fighting For What’s His is the title for you.
Fighting for What’s His is the latest in Laura Kaye’s Warrior Fight Club series. Billy Parrish still struggles with the demons that accompany being one of a few survivors of an ambush. When his best friend’s little sister Shayna Curtis moves into his spare bedroom while she finds her footing in DC, Billy can’t help but fall under her spell. This book is everything we’ve come to expect from Kaye’s writing. Both Shayna and Billy are dealing with a lot of guilt and Kaye doesn’t pull her punches, but still gives the emotion its due. I fell hard for Billy.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this novel.
Oh my goodness! This book absolutely slayed me! From the survivor’s guilt to a gas explosion! Fighting For What’s His seriously has it all! I can honestly say I’m struggling for words! This book has me tied up in knots! It gives me flashes of The Hard Ink series, but with the energy that makes it apart of the Warrior Fight Club, and I just love it.
So let me tell you more about the two main characters without getting too much into the story, cause I honestly don’t want to spoil it!
Billy Parrish is a medically retired Army Ranger, after being injured during a trap in Baghdad, but he is struggling with survivors guilt after losing so many of his brothers at arms. But now Billy is a PI and battles at the warrior fright club on a Saturday, trying to beat his demons.
Shayna Curtis is the sister to Ryan, one of Billy’s best friends and fellow brother at arms, so when Ryan called and asked Billy if Shay could stay with him until she finds an apartment in DC for her new job as a photographer for the Gazette. So, of course, Billy says yes! But how will these two cope with each other when the sparks between them could start a fire.
This book is superb from the start to the finish, and I absolutely loved it from the beginning. I loved the fact that we saw Mo again, and I’m really hoping we find out more about him.
The writing is excellent and the plot everything you would expect of a Laura Kaye book! Thrilling, delicious and 100% more-ish!
If you have been following my blog for a while you will know that I have been a huge fan of Laura Kaye’s for the past couple of years and that I will read and purchase all of her books as soon as I get the chance.
Fighting For What’s His is book number 2 in the Warrior’s Fight Club series.
I have very much enjoyed this book. It is well written and it did make me smile and also sad and at one point angry but it is all good because I loved the book so much .
I couldn’t stop reading this book and now I want to get my hands on the next book because I can’t get enough of this series.
I am giving this 5 out of 5.
Shayna is starting a new job in D.C. at a newspaper as a photojournalist. Her brother sets her up to live with one of his best friends until she can find a place. Billy is a former Army Ranger and was in an explosion and discharged from the army. He is fighting his own demons and fighting and sex is the only thing that quiets the voices. Shayna has her own demons and both are suffering from survivors guilt. Billy tries to keep his hands off but it gets harder and harder the more time he spends with her. When she finds her a place to stay with a co-worker, Billy thinks he’s lost her forever. Can he get his head out of his butt and admit his feelings for her?
Sexy and beautifully written. Billy is a butthead at first but gets better in the book. Funny and a little sad. You do not want to miss the second story of this series. It is a standalone.
* Voluntarily read and reviewed this for the author *
These warriors are heating up every page! Shay is thankful for the chance to make it on her own. Though her big brother is helping her out by letting her stay with his buddy, Billy. Former Army Ranger, sexy as sin and brooding as hell. He’s not the ideal roommate due to her intense attraction to him, but he’s kind and charming in his quiet ways. But when their roommate-ship turns in to a romance, things start to really heat up between the two of them. And Shay has more to fight than just her own insecurities; Billy’s wounds go deeper then the scarred skin on his body.
Billy’s used to quiet and solitude in his life. So coming home to his buddy’s little sister in his shower….not exactly boring and definitely exciting. But its in all the ways it shouldn’t be. Billy can’t cross those lines with Shay and she deserves someone more than an angry vet. But the more time he spends with Shay, the more he find himself opening up for the first time. And bringing her in to the Warrior Fight Club world opens the deepest secrets he has and ones he hasn’t shared with anyone. His scars run deeper than even he knows and Fight Club is the one of the only things caging his anger.
There’s a connection with Shay and Billy that sparks the minute the two characters come together. Shay is outspoken and creative in her field as a journalistic photographer. And Billy is her opposite in his stoic and strong ways. Together they compliment and blend like no other. I loved Shay’s tough attitude and her ability to accept Billy’s every layer. Billy’s relief comes from fighting but when he experiences bliss with Shay…fight Club holds a new meaning to him and Shay becomes his beacon in the night. Kaye impresses with her ability to once again combine sexy heroes with rough pasts and even tougher walls to break through. Sexy, with a surprise twist you won’t see coming. add this new romance to your TBR!
A terrific second story in the Warrior Fight Club series by a fabulous author and always a fan favorite. The genius of her storytelling about Warrior Fight Club for ex-military with a variety of issues resulting from wartime. These heroic warriors are struggling to overcome physical and emotional injuries and make a new life without the chaos of war. Our hero in this story is the sexy PI Billy, a former Army Ranger that doesn’t let anyone get too close and uses the Club to deal with his demons. Then along comes Shay to shake things up. New to town and looking for a place to stay she turns out to be Billy’s temporary roommate. She doesn’t expect the hot closed-off hunk as a roommate and he doesn’t expect his friend’s sister to be a sexy temptation. The sparks fly and the longer Shay stays the more Billy doesn’t want her to leave. Their chemistry is too strong to resist and together they embark on a journey of love that’s wonderfully touching and romantic with the right amount of heat and emotion. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC.
Rating: 4.5 Stars
Shayna Curtis feels awkward about coming home. She meets a neighbor and you can feel the connection they have right away. Billy Parrish got the shock of his life. For him working out helps to relieve some stress. They have one scene where they’re talking and he says something that’s sweet but then it turns sad – something that seems so real and makes you wonder…
If you’ve read the first book in this series than you will enjoy seeing Noah Cortez here. What’s good is that he doesn’t overtake the story leaving Shayna and Billy to shine. Their story has temptation, friendship, plenty of teasing and heat. It seemed like she was meant to be there. Billy just has to realize that. Regrets is something they have in common but the author knows just what to do so that it doesn’t get out of hand. We get to enjoy how this author has them form a connection that not everyone is lucky enough to have.
I was very happy to see that this is only the second book in the series. This means that I have more books to enjoy and more men of the club to get to know. I also enjoy getting to know some of the secondary characters – Reuben being one of them. It’s a story with a lot of emotion that you can’t help but get involved. I enjoyed watching this author’s creativity come to life as each scene went by. She creates some new words that our couple spit out every once in a while that gave me a nice chuckle. Then she leaves me an interesting ending that left me saying “huh”. So where do we go from here?
I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
This is the second book in the Warrior Fight Club series. You can read them as stand alones. But both have been very good reads.
This is Billy’s book.
Billy was a Ranger until a trap left a lot of his unit dead, and left him scarred pretty bad from the fire and explosion they were in. He’s still has survivor’s guilt. That’s where Warrior Fight Club comes in. It helps him get the voices out of his head.
Shayna is Billy’s best friend’s younger sister. So if you love these types of books, you need to read this.
Shayna has just moved to DC to start fresh, so Ryan (her brother) has her staying at Billy’s for now.
Shayna has some guilt also. I won’t go into what though. You need to read the book.
There were times that I wanted to slap both characters and tell them just to open their mouths and say what they’re feeling. Neither would.
The apartment hunting was funny as hell. I’ve been there lol.
I’m really liking this series. Laura Kaye does a great job writing about wounded vets. You can tell that she has done her research and she doesn’t make light of any of their situations.
I can’t wait to read the next.
