Guilt is such a motivating factor for the main characters in the story. Many veterans will relate to the emotional scars from the war .
Very much enjoyed Billy and Shay’s journey to love. I’m a massive fan of Laura’s writing style and stories!
Loved the story and truths behind it. Like veterans and all that they have to overcome when they return to civilian life and survivors guilt is a big one. But one Shay understood well. I really liked Billy and Shay and how easy they were to be around one another. They were each other’s missing puzzle pieces. They made hard convos easy and made normal things seem fun and full of life again. And the steam between them. jeez!! Only thing I found was annoying was their lack of communication on things of their feelings. They talked about everything else. And honestly Shay had her opening when she said about wanting to be just friends and him giving her the opening of how their night meant something to him. But she just dropped it and stewed on the fact that he never offered to stay there, meanwhile she kept bringing up searching for places and being only friends. Like of course he didn’t because it seems like you don’t want to stay. Plus he was already waging war with himself over it being his best buds sister. Then she just up and packed after not liking how he reacted when she told him she found a place. Like he has a right to be upset that’s his prerogative and never took it out on her until he came home and saw how quickly she was trying to get out by packing everything. Of course he would get defensive and upset and say just to leave early. Cause that’s the way it looked like she wanted it. Other than that great story.
Her Ranger brother arranges for her to stay with one of his buddies from the Army while she settles in on a new job in DC. She always had a thing for him. When she arrives, no one is there so she breaks in and takes a shower only to be surprised when she opens the door and he has a gun on her. They work it out but the sexual tension is there. She has guilt over her other brothers death and he has guilt from the war. I gave it 4 not 5 because, as in so many other good books I have read, there was a bit more graphic sex than I prefer. All in all a great read
Billy and Shayna
Definitely a five star read. Full of great characters, lots of action, surprises, tears, and laughter. War and life have too much sadness and tragedy. Hard to read at times but warm friends make it possible.
A story with good friendships, budding hope of new beginnings and love blossoming – if the main characters will dare to properly talk to each other. I loved the book dealt with PTSD recovery tactics.
Love this series and anything Laura Kaye puts out.
Shay and Billy were a matched made in combustible chemistry that I was living for since page one.
They’re two broken souls finding a safe space in one another
My only issue was the “neat” ending. I felt like it was too rushed and maybe could have been drawn out a little bit.
Book two in the Warrior Fight Club series. Can be read and enjoyed as stand-alone. Told in dual POV with HEA. The Warrior Fight Club is a place where active military or veterans can use MMA as a form of therapy and camaraderie. Secondary characters the same throughout the series with each book about a different member of the club. Billy allows his friends younger sister Shayna to stay with him until she can find her own place. They have instant attraction and chemistry but they also both suffer from survivors guilt. I liked the detail about Shayna’s job and the respect Billy showed towards it. A good story about how healing is a forever process and is better with help and support!
Wow, I totally wasn’t expecting what happened towards the ending. This was a good listen!
Everyone loves the best friend wanting the little sister story! Billy and Shayna are so great together. Moments of rolling my eyes at their stubborn idiocy lead to an ache in my chest at their unselfishness to let go and desire from afar, then the clarity to grab onto what’s right in front of them.
Enjoying this series
4 stars – It was really good
Former Army Ranger turned private investigator, Bill Parrish, lives for fighting, investigating, and sex. He doesn’t realize how lonely and lifeless his life is until he agrees to house his best friend’s sister for a few months while she starts a new job. The more time he spends with her though the more he wants her, but he knows he can’t have her.
This was a very emotional book. Billy struggles with survivors guilt and keeps everyone at a distance. The only peace he finds is when he is fighting during Warrior Fight Club. He quickly realizes that he finds peace when he is hanging out with Shayna too but he feels he doesn’t deserve her. His mental and emotional struggle was heartbreaking and made me just want to hug him.
Shaynea was a wonderful heroine who I wish could be my friend. She was kind, sweet, a great photographer, and had a hilarious and creative use of insults. She was quite perfect for Billy because she could easily handle his mood swings and help him through the tough times.
This was an emotional book that I couldn’t put down. I highly recommend Laura Kaye if you are looking for contemporary romances with veterans that are very emotional and addicting.
Trigger Warnings: PTSD, depression, suicidal thoughts, drug overdose mentioned
Emotionally charged, pulse-pounding; ready for more!
I feel in love with Laura’s books when I read the first book in her Hard Ink series. I was really happy when I saw she was writing another military series. The first book was amazing and I had great expectations for this one. I’m happy to say it exceeded my expectations. It was a well balanced story, going deep in the emotional well and keeping you waiting for everything to happens. If you like books with strong heroines, protective men and so hot that it can melt your kindle, give this series a try. I’ll not regret it.
Rene’s Mini Review: Fighting for What’s His (Warrior Fight Club, #2) by Laura Kaye
Rating: 3.5 Teacups / 3 Handcuffs

Rene’s Thoughts:
I absolutely love how honest and respectful Kaye is in her portrayal of returning veterans. She does not use them as a gimmick or troupe to sell her books. Rather she creates dynamic and flushed out characters with varying traumas from their service, and uses it to help tell their stories in a realistic manner.
Right from the start, Shayna was a heroine I could spend time with! She was tough, sweet, thoughtful and intelligent. She also comes into the story with her own trauma, baggage, and story; which makes her more a part of the narrative than just being the love interest.
Billy may be struggling with his own issues, but he works hard to manage them and even overcomes them in-order to help Shayna. He’s a sexy, broody hero you can’t help but fall for.
One of my favorite portions of the novel was them apartment hunting together, and the crazies they ran into – because you know people like this exist!
There was some plot that went unfulfilled, by the end of the story and it felt unfinished. It also took them so long to get together, the ending seemed abrupt without showing us what we had been waiting for – their happily-ever-after!
I look forward to seeing what member of the fight-club gets their happily-ever-after next!
Second in the Warrior Fight Club series by Laura Kaye, Fighting for What’s His was a great addition to the series! The story grabbed you from the beginning and didn’t slow down! I really loved Billy and Shayna. You could really feel the connection between the two and they were perfect for each other. The heat, chemistry and emotions in this book made it impossible to put down. I’m looking forward to more in the series!
Shayna and Billy take a sweet, slow, sexy burn to a whole new level in Fighting For What’s His! This book features a sexy and grumbly veteran, and a sweet and sultry reporter who happens to be the baby sister of said grumbly veteran’s pal in the force. When a favor turns into so a wickedly anticipatory push and pull fight of passion Shay and Billy are forced to see what their true desires are in love and in life.
I love these two together! They’re witty, and lovable, and endearing. I was so softhearted for Billy and his past, and so charmed by Shay. Together, they shouldn’t have made sense. One a thundering rain cloud, and the other a ray of sunshine, but they ended up making one of those awe-inducing moments of a downpour with the sun beaming. Billy and Shay captured my reader heart, and I so enjoyed their story!
Happy Reading

Fighting for what’s His is a stand alone novel in the Warrior Fight Club series by Laura Kaye. It can truly be read by itself as the book really only focuses on Billy and Shayna.
These two characters have known one another for quite some time. Billy served with Shayna’s brother in the Army Rangers and his best friend. Shayna moved to DC for her new job and her brother asked Billy if she could live with him until she found her own place.
Since recovering from his injury Billy has pretty much stayed to himself. He does have a few friends from the WFC but since he works for himself that’s really the only ones he has. Inserting Shayna into his house and life should have been hard to do. It’s was virtually painless. She brings new life to his.
Of course there’s the fight of attraction. You’ll really want to shake him or knock him upside his head while you’re reading this book. I enjoyed reading their story. I think you’ll enjoy this story.
Two people burden by the same emotion drawn together. I mean I couldn’t ask for a better story. Not only because of that but also because of the forbidden best friends little sister and the fact that I’ve been reading this series from the beginning and I’ve been wanting this story so yeah I was looking forward to this book. I had no idea of the pain that both of these characters were carrying and it broke my heart.
Billy is just as drawn to Shayna but he doesn’t feel like he is good enough for her. He has demons but doesn’t realize the burden she carries as well. Never realizing that the way that he’s been coping isn’t really helping that maybe she can be the thing that he needs. Unfortunately Billy messes up and pushes her away and may lose out on any chance he has if he doesn’t come to terms in time.
This is a must read series and I can’t wait for more by this author!!
Fighting For What’s His was a fun play on the roommates to lovers trope! Add in the fact that Billy, our hero, is the best friend of Shayna’s older brother and I just knew their romance was going to be rife with tension. That tension played out beautifully, balanced by the couple’s easy camaraderie and fun wordplay. I enjoyed the banter as Billy & Shayna forged a supportive friendship, helping each other to face not just day to day issues, but the deeply buried guilt they each harbored. I have to say, Shayna stole the show in this book. She is an amazing heroine and I loved everything about her! She’s intelligent, funny as all get out, and not afraid to speak up for what she wants. If only all women were as comfortable in their own skin!
Of course, the rest of the crew from the fight club made appearances, which left me so ready for the next book in the series! My one “issue”, which is the reason I didn’t give this book five stars, is that Billy still seemed sort of lost at the end of the book. I know it was left at him seeking more help to deal with his demons, but I’d have loved for him to have found a little happiness in his career the way that Shayna was able to. Hopefully we’ll see that resolved in future books.
